Death Note Dolls

Hello! I’m still only in the concept part of this project, but I thought I would share this journey with the community as you all tend to be very creative and helpful:3 

I want to make dolls for Misa Amane and L, as they are my favorite characters and I think it would be really fun to have them!

For L, so far the hardest part has been figuring out what to do for a body. I considered a Smartdoll body, but those seem to be really difficult to come by, but so is my second choice, an Obitsu 60cm(I also recall that the 60cm Obitsu bodies are pretty fragile and defective.). My 3rd option, is to wait on the Imomodoll 75cm but I almost feel like that would be too tall. I don’t really like the Dollfie Dream boy for this project as I feel like the body is a bit dainty and slender for what I’m trying to go for. 
 For the head I’m think a DDH07 or 09, but I’m exploring other sculpts as well, and am open to suggestions:) 

For Misa, I’ll probably put her on a DDS body, I’m thinking with an M bust. I will probably get an outfit commissioned for her, I’m still deciding which one from the series I like the most, tbh I’ll probably end up getting 2 or 3 different outfits for her haha 

For her head sculpt, I want to do something cute and happy, I like the Karin sculpt a lot(and she would be easy to get) but also considering an open mouth sculpt. Also open for suggestions here!

Obitsu 55cm is long discontinued, and just as rare as Smartdoll boys from what I've seen, so fair warning there, though they at least come up on Mandarake sometimes under both the Obitsu branding and the Visuadoll branding. From my understanding, the boys Obitsu made only ever came out in 55 (which can be made into 60 with a limb swap) and 65 (which SUPER CAN'T, lol). 65's neck is too thick for a DD head.

Imomo 75 is DEFINITELY too tall, and their neck has the same problem as Obitsu 65 from what I've seen in my doll Discords. It's just too thick. If Imomo ever releases their 68 boy, I think that'd be closest to what you're looking for! They had a file corruption issue that really pushed that release date back, though.

If you're just looking for something DDB sized with more beef though, keep an eye on Fiorista, a Japanese artist! They produced muscular option parts for DDB and have teased another run of them recently, so you might be able to beef L up without completely wrecking your bank account:

As for Misa...Karin would be really cute! Her eye shape really suits her, which is the toughest part of finding a sculpt if you ask me. Mandarake and Yahoo Japan Auctions are both good places to look at heads too, if you'd like to see what's out there! Especially for open mouth heads, customizers do those a lot. Just be sure to pick up a body suit for her when you get her! Goth and vinyl together leads to a lot of time getting treated for stains without one, lol.

Looking forward to seeing these customs, it's always fun making one of your favorite characters into a doll!

Thank you sm for all this insight! I’m not opposed to waiting a little while, as I’ll probably do Misa first and L second, so he just might have to be a floating head until I can figure out the body issue lol I will probably mill Mandarke for a SD or DD boy!
