First Face-Up Attempts: Imomodoll Ruby

Recommended Posts

rearadmiral

I bought an Imomodoll Ruby A head awhile back and have taken a few wild swings at a face. I'm not GREAT at illustrating but I'd say I'm competent and I'm looking to spend as little money as possible on this hobby so I really want to be able to do my own. I laid down a couple coats of Mr. Super Clear and came up with a base sketch. It's going to take a lot of practice and several attempts, so I'm going to do a fresh sketch every single evening during the work week to facilitate that.

It's *really* not much to look at now but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to improve over time!

Wiped off yesterday's sketch to get ready to take another pass but before I did, i brushed a small amount of red water color inside the mouth, then rinsed it out. This left behind a pale stain and I'm going to build that stain up a little more when I do my next pass of MSC. For now it's just a very light pink.

As for today's attempt at a face,spacer.png

I don't know if the bean eyebrows are able to evoke the emotion I want, so they might not stay if I can't get closer with the next pass.

All right the bean eyebrows gotta go. I think i can get something more expressive with smaller eyebrows!

I think blocking out more from the eyelashes is a good look!!

Ok i went back to the beans briefly to try to get something more emotive out of it and while it was a lot of fun to draw, it looks terrible haha.

The way the eyelashes turned out on this one make me think I'm going to need a proper kneaded eraser instead of just going in with a q-tip when things need to be erased. Hopefully I'll start to see some improvements!
