A poll to see who plays games in this series.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction.

I have so many dolls that they have formed their own country.

Infinity Nikki all the way! Used to play Love Nikki years ago, but it was just so damn grindy. Infinity Nikki kept or improved on all the things I loved (world building, crazy lore, mood whiplash story, gorgeous outfits), but improved or ditched my pain points.

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

I had been playing Infinity Nikki.  I played from launch until sometime in October last year.

I quit because the patches from 1.5 onward had just not been good.  I realized I wasn't enjoying myself anymore.  There were two final straws.  I kind of realized that I simply didn't want to play the events during the 1.10 patch and the only reason I had been doing the event games for a while was for diamonds, not for fun.  The other thing was even more subjective.  I was irritated that it was October and there was no "spooky stuff."  The only thing that month was the cottagecore Witch outfit.  I also had really disliked the new home and farming elements and felt they were skewing the game to things I didn't enjoy.  I was always much more about the exploration.

I revisited the game sometime around March (?).  It was the patch with the unicorn outfit.  I tried out a little of 2.0 and burned through my remaining pulls to get my unicorn.  The new world was interesting, but having played the game every day from December 2024 through October 2025, it just felt tired to me.  I imagine if it had been a conventional game and an Infinity Nikki II rather than a life consuming live service game, then I probably would have been much better disposed to it.

I do wish I had returned during the patch that introduced the Wildfire outfit (little red riding hood).  That outfit and its abilities seemed so cool.  Also, that patch had some of the "spooky stuff" which I had been so missing in the game.  I probably would have actually stayed a bit had I come back during that patch.

The other thing is my absence made the sheer GREED of the game really jump out when I returned to it.  I was shocked how desensitized I had been to it.  I had been a whale.  I had every 5* from launch through October and several of them were full evolutions.  So yeah, I had thrown some money around, and being away for a while made me more conscious of what a financial habit it had been.  And that isn't a blanket value judgement.  it's just that I realized it would be a lot better for ME if I walked away.

I still miss my wardrobe.  I do still have an Infinity Nikki itch, but the shape of the itch no longer matches what Infinity Nikki offers.

Sorry to be kind of downer.  It's just that I had so much fun with Infinity Nikki early on.  I wouldn't have played it every day for so long if it hadn't given me enjoyment for a long time.

With all due respect, you are entitled to your feelings about the game and far be it from me to tell you how to feel, but this isn’t really true. They may not give away as many freebies as they did at launch, but the game is still completely F2P. You don’t need any of the outfits, much less their evolutions, to get through the main story (or any side stories for that matter); paid content is purely cosmetic and the game provides ample opportunities to farm pink diamonds each patch so you can always pull something even if you don’t spend money.

I can definitely see how it would cost a lot to get everything every single patch and it might not feel worth it to you, but coming from Japanese gacha games with scummy business practices that force your hand to pay to win, Infinity Nikki was a breath of fresh air to me. I was able to say goodbye to the Japanese live service games I used to play without looking back, and I will probably never go back now that I’ve experienced something so much more innovative and pleasant to play than what greedy Japanese devs are willing or capable of providing.

I can't really comment on IN because it took forever to load on my tablet so I only opened it twice. In SN there are competitive players who are f2p only, so it seems like f2p is a workable option. They gave a lot of stuff away during the anniversary.

Yeah, I think all of them can easily be played f2p and are quite generous with giving free pulls, but IN in particular blew my mind because you get more than enough to pull a 4-star outfit (the equivalent of SSR in SN) every patch, and you’re not gated by stamina either, so you can technically play as much as you want every day. The game has such a vast, beautiful open world with so much to see and explore, and we’re getting it all for free… All of the other gacha games I’ve played are SO stingy with resources and constantly trying to powercreep players to shoehorn them into paying to win. I’m glad these Chinese games are shaking up the industry.

Interesting! The home building stuff is one of the big things that made me stick around, along with how interactive the world is compared to many other open world games.

When I first tried it out I was also really impressed by how good the game looks. As long as you got a decent GPU, the graphics are way beyond your typical gacha game.

Haha yeah they went completely off the rails with Momo in IN.

Momo Longlegs (also known as Lomo) debuted in a patch long before I started playing so I don’t know too much about it, but apparently it was Momo’s deepest wish to have long legs(?!). They brought him back in the latest patch as a special cameo for the Momo dancing game, which is also super wack in itself.

Papergames also brought a Momo-branded excavator and an actual robot to BiliBili World 2026 over the weekend because apparently the next update has lots of robots. They dressed the robot up as Momo at the actual event and then later made a music video with it dancing spastically in a dark room with neon lights.

The background music in that video is supposed to be Momo rocking out, which is a reference to something Nikki said in LN/MN (and possibly a diary entry in SN?) about Momo dreaming of holding a rock concert one day.

Papergames also had people dressed up as Momo pole dancing at the BiliBili World expo… 😰

You are very welcome. I saw it, and now you all have to see it too 🤗

Ironically, Momo keeps insisting that he is not a cat… 🤔

Longlegs Momo?

I remember that.  I think that was after Sea of Stars debuted?  I seem to remember taking pics of it in the zone where he existed (some minigame zone thing), and then sharing it over and over in those little pictures in a bottle things, because at the time everyone was kind of playing around that longlegs Momo was an eldritch horror.  I think I'd share pics with captions like "1, 2, Momo's comin' for you" and the catchphrase that was used a lot of "Longleg Momo isn't real.  Longleg Momo can't hurt you!"

Love Nikki was such a huge inspiration for the type of outfits I wanted to make for my dolls! It truly is intertwined with this hobby. I gave Infinity Nikki a try but my tech couldn't handle the graphics. Otherwise it was very fun. I hope i can play more Infinity Nikki in the future.
