Bootwave, my bootleg Shockwave arrived.  The G1 imitation box is nice.  The figure came with a tech spec decoder, a G1 replica instruction book, and a sticker sheet with tons of Decepticon emblems.  The figure is... well, it's a bootleg.  It has some of the flaws people report with these bootlegs, but not others.

The electronics work.  The forearms have nice tight joints so the barrel doesn't droop.  The purple space gun is back!  And that's good because Bootwave will probably stay mostly in gun mode.

I'll provide more detail if anyone cares.

Now I guess I have to get a MP Shockwave and a Cloud 9 Quakeblast.

I want this Astrotrain, or some variation of it.  This one was only released as an E-Hobby exclusive in Japan.  It's also how he appeared on the show, so it's Astrotrain's most memorable look.

There is a Blaster reissue from a couple years ago, in a set with Steeljaw, Eject, Ramhorn and Perceptor.  BBTS is taking orders for it: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/24703  It's certainly a quicker alternative than waiting for the Walmart reissue, although you won't get the G1 repro box.

I only recall him looking like his original G1 metal toy so that's the one I like best.  But the colors on that guy above are pretty neat.

Thanks for that link!  I may just pre-order that set because it looks really cool and I'm not going to miss the vintage styled box so much.  I'll have to check finances but I'll prolly order that over my vacation.  😉

Shockwave is pretty cool.  I didn't have him as a kid, but a friend did, and Shockwave made enough of an impression that I tracked down one once I started collecting Transformers again.  I have MP-29 Shockwave, he's alright.  If I could do it over, I'd have waited for the Plus version, with a deeper purple color.

48595915361_d7ce518607_m.jpg

@baldylox, You're probably thinking of the Astrotrain on the left here.  The one on the right was released in Japan, and was what Hasbro reissued during the TRU series of reissues.  Hoping for one with purple, this time.

It's a great time to be a Transformers fan, between reissues, Masterpiece, 3rd party, and Generations.  Let us know when you get that set.

48593810797_90871c7129_k.jpg

I got a cool little add-on kit for Siege Soundwave.

48593669841_a7fffab072_k.jpg

It has wrist cover bits.  They hinge out for transformation.

48593809922_a5a9eb0725_k.jpg

But these new pieces for the shoulders (in silver) are the real stars.

48593669296_90b1b9f150_k.jpg

Once installed, the arms can slide back, and allow for a decent tape deck mode!  Plus, nothing interferes with the spaceship or lamppost modes, giving Soundwave four modes!

Yep, the SL-51 kit from Shockwave Labs.  I bought it from a Chinese seller on eBay.  It was about $12.

The eBay scammer mess still isn't settled, heh.

@onion5@ @onion7@ @onion10@

I've been amusing myself by watching the scammer's reputation plummet as the negative feedback piles up.

On a more positive and fun note, I picked up the Transformers Legends version of Blitzwing a few months ago. Since I haven't posted photos of that yet, here's a comparison with the G1 version.

What I've been looking to do recently is to get a more modern version of the G1 toys I have and used to have. I won't succeed in doing that with all such characters for several reasons. However, I succeeded with Blitzwing.

That's how my modern Transformers collecting got kindled, and has been going like that since Thrilling 30/Combiner Wars.

I currently have at least some updated version of everything I used to have (and had some attachment to) except for Landfill, Quickmix, Squawktalk and Beastbox.  Although some of the modern versions are not what I'd view as the definitive versions for my collection.

I have the Hasbro/Titan's Return version of the Blitzwing you show.  I think it's a solid figure.  My only complaint is that on mine the tolerances to transform the legs require a lot of squeezing and perfect positioning.  The Megatron version of the same mold had no such issues.  But I keep Blitzwing in Tank mode most of the time because of that quirk.

I got "hooked" when a local friend gave me a mere glimpse of his collection. I'll never catch up to what he has. However, seeing his collection rekindled my interest in TF toys.

I don't think I'll ever come close to acquiring some updated version of everything I have/used to have. I don't like certain characters enough to justify the expense.

I obviously have a very large version of... Devil Homura's boyfriend  but he doesn't scale at all with other TF toys. Scaling is the reason I tried to buy Magic Square MS-01X but you already know how that transaction went.

Here's my custom Siege Soundwave stereo mode:

48619183417_947c0b6ccf_b.jpg

I'm biased, but I think it's a pretty good alt mode.

I remember Whirl from the catalogs back in the day.  For a very long time, I thought it was a cancelled figure.  I never saw the G1 figure anywhere.  Early on, it didn't even appear on ebay.  I still haven't seen one in real life.  I wanted one for a long time.  Still kinda do.  But I settle for the Thrilling 30 version.

I never had G1 Whirl, either.  I'm a fan of the modern, IDW take on the character, though, and have the recent Generations version.

48626457087_ff40ed469d_c.jpg

I had this helicopter guy, and called him Whirl as a kid.  He's Bandai's Robo Machine helicopter.  Not to be confused with Bandai's Machine Robo toys, which were released in the US as Gobots, at least until Hasbro bought Tonka.

I tried out your Soundwave fan mode, @Gabriel, it works pretty well, even with the add-on kit.  MP Soundwave is the better display piece, but Siege Soundwave is quickly becoming my favorite to play around with.

48626057586_f512b357d2_c.jpg

I received the DX9 Combiner Wars Megatron add-on kit today.  It doesn't do much for tank mode.

48626203607_6b668e6437_c.jpg

But I think it improves the robot mode greatly.  The "belly gun" can also attach in a way to match the animation design, but I like this toy look.

48626203117_423f72655a_c.jpg

Looks pretty good with POTP Optimus.  MP-36 is the better choice for your Masterpiece collection.

Speaking of MP Megatron, anyone have thoughts on a good Shattered Glass Megatron to match up with Prime?  I'm planning to get the Shattered Glass colored Transform Element TE-01 Optimus, and need a good counterpart.  And they'll totally end up on a shelf with SSSS Gridman Rikka and Akane figures.

The Matrix included with him also has the LED feature but it didn't work. 😕 While not ideal, I don't care enough about the feature to do anything about it. If I'm willing to risk breaking it, I can consider disassembling it and then fix the LED problem myself. At the moment, as I said, I don't care enough to go that route. I'm just glad the LED gimmick in his head works instead of the other way around.

Looking at Shattered Glass Megatron's design, I was foolishly thinking about bashing together Openplay Big Cannon, THF-03 Dynastron, and some Gundam add-on kits to come up with such a figure. He wouldn't transform, though. 😅

Prime looks nice with those light up eyes.  $179.99 on BBTS, that's less than 30 Bumblebee movie Optimus will cost...  I may have to do some serious cleaning.

Apparently, TFCon LA 2019 had a custom class that used Openplay Big Cannon as a base for SG Megatron.  I thought about getting another Dynastron and repainting some bits, like the head.  The thing with Dynastron is that he has this nice gunmetal finish, and SG Megatron is more white or chrome.  Also, the gun mode doesn't seem right for the character.  It'd be like G1 Optimus turning into a gun.  Using a Gundam kit for a wing pack is a great idea though, it could be like the tank drone from the original Botcon SG Megatron.  I think there might be a head kit for MP-36, with light up eyes, maybe bash that up with Big Cannon.  I've never done a real TR custom, just some Reprolabel or add-on kit based stuff.

Yep, that's it.  I don't have one for my THF Dynastron, as I figured the colors won't quite match.  I got the arm cannon with English voice clips and a back plate to cover the transformation kibble, and the back piece doesn't match (and oddly doesn't fit).  Which is fine, I just wanted a second cannon to stick on the combined barrel extension and stock.  Speaking of MP-36 upgrades, the Dr. Wu sword is well worth it, and would easily work with most other Decepticons.

Haslab extended the deadline on Unicron.

My opinion at this juncture is Hasbro was looking at the numbers and was nervous that Unicron wouldn't quite fund even after the last minute surge.  I think it was too close to call.  Also, they've tipped their hand that this is something they can't allow to fail to fund (since it's one of their internal properties and their flagship franchise to boot).

I think it's a pretty fair bet that it will fund now.  I'm even back to thinking about chipping in.

So, who wants to be the first to post pics of their DDs with the Chaos Bringer?

I might spring for Unicron now.  It's nice that Hasbro finally realized that MP-44 is hitting this weekend, which was certainly cutting into Unicron preorders.  I'll see how the Volks USA Rem lottery goes, and then decide on Unicron.

I would be interested in reading your comments concerning the MP-44 once you get to play with him.

The eBay scammer issue was settled Monday night/Tuesday morning. I noticed I received a refund from that debacle shortly after midnight on Tuesday this week.

I still wanted the MS-01X, so I placed an order at The Chosen Prime. Doing so cost more than buying from an overseas eBay seller but there were several advantages as well. I didn't have to worry about an overseas seller going rogue and with the store located in the neighboring state, the transit only took 2 days. I placed an order on Wednesday and I received it Friday.

@Galvatim already posted a photo of his box a few pages ago but here's mine:

ms01x_01.jpg.ceb672396add8d20dc42c9762c78ae92.jpg

Size comparison:

ms01x_02.jpg.06b0ee39fe7e001db711d879532d0b31.jpg

The insignia came from Toyhax.

ms01x_03.jpg.43f9f70bb1dbe39d29510e36ba963bbf.jpg

Megatron! What have you done to me?!?

Starscream's head came from the Kotobukiya Strascream plastic model kit.

Out of the box, I felt Prime's head movement going up and down was too loose. I disassembled his head and applied super glue onto the plastic parts which are meant to cause friction. Since I didn't have a super glue accelerator, I used baking soda to make the glue dry faster. Once the glue hardened, I reassembled his head. The friction is much higher now and his head is no longer loose.

@onion28@

I'm quite impressed with this figure.

Yep.  Assuming I get a lucky draw on Rem, then that's $630 + $53 for a stand + $24 for a body suit = $707 before shipping.  UPS shipping will be about $30.  Let's just round it up to $750.

Checking Unicron, the $575 price includes shipping to continental US, which works for me, and it includes a stand.  I don't even have to buy a body condom for him!

So, I bought this two pack of Classics Optimus and Megatron.

48660575438_26e3c67f38_c.jpg

Cool TFTM inspired boxart, and the toys inside barely look like that...

48661076307_1b4d9fffe4_c.jpg

Somewhat dated, if you just want some nice Optimus and Megatron toys, get the new Siege versions.

48660927046_f478398949_c.jpg

Megatron is an interesting figure, but we'll come back to him.

48660927121_6736ff88b1_c.jpg

This Optimus is painted up pretty well, aside from those translucent blue panels on his arms.  They form the sides of the cab in truck mode, and it looks bad.

48661075802_f1c4bb61fd_c.jpg

But that's OK.  Fansproject has a solution!

48661075682_0818eceaba_c.jpg

The kit mostly snaps over the existing figure, requiring only the new shoulder pieces to be screwed in, using the original screws, and the original hands to be removed.

48660574583_bc0e679731_c.jpg

Transformation is pretty much the same, although the arms are tougher to get in place.

48660926046_5bdca6fdc7_c.jpg

Optimus ends up taller than Megatron.  Which is fine, I have the original Classics and Henkei releases of this Optimus, and I'm sure there's another Megatron (or Galvatron or Skorponok) that would match up well with this Prime.

48660573343_a11867cf08_c.jpg

With the other upgraded Optimus I assembled recently, Combiner Wars voyager class with Beezleboss Spiritual Leader kit.  I bought both kits from BBTS, the Fansproject one was $19.99, and the Beezleboss one was only $15.  Classics Prime was already the better of these two, and only gets better with the kit. The only thing that bothers me is the new hands/forearm parts don't lock on too securely.  The Beezleboss kit looks OK, but loses the combiner mode and doesn't hold together in alt mode.  I also had to shave some plastic off of the neck joint to get the head to position right.  It seems fragile, where as Fansproject always makes pretty sturdy stuff.

Haha, now we have to hook @baldylox up with one of those legend sized Soundwaves, which are pretty much DD scale.

My favorite cassette would be Ramhorn.  He and Eject were the only ones I had as a kid.  I also has a headless, gunless Buzzsaw.

Glit, from the eHobby Kiss Player cassette set, is awesome, too.  He's the Decepticon medic.
