Hi all! First, I want to apologize if this isn't the correct place to post -- I haven't posted here yet and I'm not positive this is the right spot. I believe my guy is off topic as he's PVC/ABS, but strung with elastic. I don't think he counts as a 'proper' BJD for DoA so...here I am? Preordered him a while back and he finally arrived! I ordered him from Jane's Doll Land. He's an UFDoll Xiao Fei, with a 1/4 body and extra hand parts. His torso is the 'T shape' one and his skin is White Peach. I was honestly kinda surprised at how big he is! Compared to my Dollzone 1/4 boy body, he's a bit taller. Unsure what direction I want to take him in, but I'm excited to finally have a blank canvas (and a more mature ish 1/4 body) 😄

I wanted to show off my new arrivals. They came back to back lol. First, my XiaoKa boy. He did come with a couple "tintins" which my sister and I had a giggle about. I've never actually gotten any before but he just came with them lol. I didn't take any actual pic of them tho. (But I will on request) I wasn't sure what to do with him since the initial plans were no longer needed (another 9S attempt/replace someone's body--got the official 9S/found a different body that worked better aesthetically) but he's such a cutie and was so affordable ($56!), there's no reason not to keep him. A friend suggested I give him some cat ears I've had lying around for ages. I think it's a great look! So i did some low quality digital mockups of some decals I still have to see how he'd look I think I like the one on the right best. Hopefully, my sealant gets here soon and I can get him done! I'm not sure what to name him. The second arrival was a new body for a resin head (Little Monica Sarubia) I previously had on a DDS body. I got tired of her head being loose. I tried all kinds of things to keep it on but nothing ever worked enough. This body is the new 1/3 lady body from UFDoll. It's strung so it works much better! The ABS material was really smooth and her head slid really easily at first but a silicone disc fixed that. Below is some box opening pics and the head on the body to show the match. I got the body in "cream" it's quite close! The body came with a random head, but I won't be keeping it. She came with a large bust that I intended to put on, but I don't think her clothes will fit if I do. She did have the shapely L bust on the DDS body, but it was pretty difficult to zip some things. I could only do it because that bust was vinyl and therefore had a bit of squish. This one is hard ABS with no squish, so I guess her character just has small breasts now lol. I forgot to take a pic of the nude body but here is my girl all together! I'm a little sad her hands aren't in a nice, expressive position like XioaKa's and the previous msd size girl body I got. I imagine it's so you want to use the jointed hands? But I likely won't bother. The plus side is her hands slide very easily through sleeves. As a bonus, the body is very surprisingly light! I was a little worried it'd be quite heavy, as the two 1/4 UFDolls are a bit heftier than expected. That's all for now! If anyone wants better/more detailed shots of the body/any parts, let me know! BTW I bought these (and the mentioned msd girl body) through Dollsphere!

I thought it would be a good idea to create a topic for consolidating info and discussion on the huge influx of blind box dolls! It seems like they are mostly 1/12 scale to 1/6 scale from what I've seen, and tend to be proportioned similar to Nendoroid dolls, with large bobble heads, plastic molded hair, and toddler-esque bodies, although some with longer legs have been popping up lately. Some include various hands, feet, and magnetic parts like animal ears. The plastic wigs can be removed and the eyes can be removed. Some are strung BJDs while others are hinge joints, or more Nendoroid style bodies. The prices I've seen on Taobao tend to be around ￥75-85 yuan or $10-12 USD for the 1/12 scale dolls, so they are very inexpensive. I've also noticed them popping up from resellers on Amazon, Aliexpress, and other shops, but they tend to be 2-4x more expensive (with the caveat of not having to import them from Taobao, of course!). Some of the resellers offer the option to buy a specific doll at an inflated price, in case the gamble of a blind box isn't appealing. As of now, it seems like there are no bootlegs of these dolls, but I don't know if that will be a problem in the future. They are so inexpensive that I'd be surprised to see bootlegs, but who knows. The bigger brands I've noticed are Penny's Box, UFdoll, Maytree, Bonnie, Simontoys, Nagi, etc but there are loads of these so I'm sure I'm missing many brands. There are other blind box "dolls" under a similar umbrella (sometimes made by the same companies listed) but they are more like action figures or anime figures and tend to be fully plastic with no removable clothing, eyes, etc. so I did not include those in the scope of this post. Excuse me if we already have a thread for them, but search didn't bring up anything for me, haha. UFdoll has been one of my favourite doll makers ever since I adopted my tiny 1/12 scale boy and the cute sculpt and soft feel of the material won me over. The concept of plastic material that is strung like a classic resin BJD also fascinates me. So currently I have the 1/12 one and two 1/6 boys with me, but the other day I discovered that they now also have 1/4 anime style boys. Coupled with their low price point (another thing I like about UFdoll) I couldn't stop my impulse, just look at them. I noticed though that I couldn't find any pictures of the not clothed body, but it appears to share the exact measurements with a previous 1/4 boy body from UFdoll? And also that they didn't showcase these heads with the skin tone fitting for the body for some reason, haha. But I wondered if anybody knows if it is just the same body, just now bundled with anime style heads instead.
