Care questions about LE Dollfie.

I'm fairly new to Dollfies and I have a few questions relating to the ones I have.

 

I have a Kos-Mos, and after attaching all of her head gear I noticed that her wig is a bit frizzy. She's a beautiful doll, and I want to fix the friz without doing any damage to the custom wig. Does anyone know if it safe to use fabric softener on Kos-Mos wig? There is only a little friz, so I would probably be doing it a strand at a time.

 

In a similar vein does anyone know if it is safe to use the vinegar and water method of fixing the dye Kos-Mos black clothing parts, and her blue chest covering? I can't really use a body stocking on her because her thighs, upper arms, and part of her chest is meant to be exposed. It just wouldn't look right. I still plan on using tape to protect her legs and arms in addition to fixing, but since it is dark black I want to use multiple strategies. They are also an essential and irreplaceable part of Kos-Mos outfit so I don't want to ruin them.

 

Finally I just aquired a NIB Shinguji Sakura. I wanted one the moment I saw that she existed, and watching DollCrazy300's youtube vids of her sort of clinched it for me. She was so enthusiastic about her own Sakura it sort moved her up from "I want that" to "I've gotta have that." One question I did have since she is an older version of the DIII I was wondering if anyone knows if her joints are subject to the cracking issue people have seen in the older D3s? I know there are reinforcements available from CoolCats to prevent that from happening, and I want to be sure to take good care of her so she lasts as long as a Dollfie can last.

 

These are going to spend most of their time in a display case, so they should be pretty stress free, but I want to be extra careful about protecting them.

Regarding Sakura, she's a newer type DD3. Doesn't have the updated weaker looking inner frame they introduced with Asuna though.

 

Regardless the Coolcat reinforcements are a good investment for any kind of DD3/DDS body as they're cheap and do protect against any eventual cracking.

Ah I wasn't sure they would work on the newer frames. If that's the case then I will invest in them regardless.

I've washed my Rise wig in a water/fabric softener mix with no issues Rise's wig has those kinks at the top of her pigtails and they didn't get affected by washing

Lol! I am with you there! Alicia is my favorite as well and I would so love a dollfie dream of her as well as Akari (team aria company!) I think I just liked the silly face that Alice was making in the avatar lol!

Putting her whole outfit together was quite something, but I don't have a stand for her yet so it all ended up going back it the box for now. I have her in normal clothing that is white.

 

I got Woolite that is intended for delicate clothing. Hopefully that is the right stuff to use.

I'm curious; did you see any color bleed in the water when you soaked the black clothing? I have black Volks socks that I've never used because I'm afraid of the staining!

No color bled into the water, however I did use the volks tape on her legs and arms before putting them on. I only had them on for about 30 minutes, and the tape had black on it after I removed them. This was after fixing it too.

 

I am new to the hobby so take what I say with a grain of salt here. I would think that it would be a good idea to use both tape and a body stocking under black clothing if its going to be on long. Short term you might be ok with one or the other. I'm used to taping stuff for airbrushing Japanese resin model kits, so I am pretty thorough and it is a pain to cover an arm or a leg. The tape lines won't show through socks, but certainly would show through stockings.

 

My background is computer systems administration, and with security you always use multiple lines of defense to protect things. If you only use one you end up unhappy with the result.

 

I can say I got both Volks and CoolCats wigs caps and the Coolcats ones are much better. The volks ones slip of their heads and make the wig really hard to keep on. The Coolcats ones stay put, and I'm very happy with those. I don't have one of their body suits yet, but if the quality is the same as the caps they should be worth the $35. I did get a few pairs of coolcats white socks to protect their feet from staining from their shoes. They have them in several lengths, and you could probably use them under black socks although it would be a bear to get another pair of socks on over them.

Note that there's some serious issues with using the DD tape for a length of time. Volks may have fixed this in different batches but we don't know.

 

Using vinegar doesn't do anything with modern dyes. Your best bet is to wash stuff a few times in cold water, but be careful of things that have delecate printed patterns rather than stitched or dyed. Some things are dyed poorly and just can't be taken care of by washing, like that Saber Maid costume mentioned.

 

Some black clothing doesn't stain, at least after a couple washes. I've found that if it's something that stains, it looks like a rich, shiny black, even after washing.

 

Note that stuff can stain through tape & the body stocking & anything else, so if you're unsure about something new it's best to put it on and check it soon after. Unfortunately I've found that you can't really tell if it's stained through the tape without taking the tape off.

Are you talking about the silicone CoolCat head caps? Those don't protect against stains, but they prevent the wig from slipping. I know their regular fabric caps fit nicely, but the one I got has a frill around the edge which didn't protect against stains (~_~') I decided to stick with the Volks ones.

 

FWIW the Coolcat black socks & stockings don't stain (again, after a few washes at least). They're also a more dull black, which is fine by me :~)

These are cloth caps, and they do have the lacy edge. Thanks for that tip; I had wondered about about how well the lace edge would protect her head. My Makoto Kickuchi and Sakura Shinguji both have dark black wigs. I kept the edge of the cloth cap exposed and just styled the hair to cover the cap edges.

 

Kos-Mos stockings are a shiny black. They have some lace edges, and machine washing isn't an option for me. I live in an apartment, and our laundry room machines are front loaders that lock once they turn on. You can't turn off the spin cycle on them. I'd have to hand wash if I wash them.
