A Dollfie Dream Prince?!?

^^ I've actually been plotting this idea for awhile, but only recently did it hit me how it could be accomplished.

 

I've been wanting to make a male doll in the dollfie dream style, but I really don't care for the jointing of the Obitsu male body.. my solution?

 

Make a hybrid of the two bodies.

 

My plan is to obtain an obitsu 60cm body male bust and change it out on a DDII body. Obitsu white and DD normal are said to be a fairly close match, so it would be a good thing to test anyway. From that point, any modding I choose to do would be essentially optional, as clothed he would obviously be male. As for heads, I'm thinking of using an unpainted SQ lab Ayumi kit and styling the face to look a bit more androgynous. Who knows, if it goes well, my DD prince may even get a little brother in the future, with the DDS body becoming available at VolksUSA and Obitsu already having a male bust for the 55cm body frame, if this boy works, I may try it. ^^

 

But, his bust has been ordered from Parabox. I'll probably have to take either Ichiko or Kogemi apart ( for SCIENCE!!!! ) to do a suitable test. I'll be sure to post pictures of results in this thread. ^^

That is an amazing idea! I saw a Rurouni Kenshin DD on flickr. I wonder if he was made in a similar way. That Kenshin looks great. I am really excited to see how your experiment turns out!

I also saw this Kenshin on the DD group and was wondering what sort of body they were using. The head looked like it was Aoi's head with the face up redone (correct me if I'm wrong though). Just amazing though, I was quite jealous

I found that doll on Figure.fm, it was a DD option head 2 on an Angel of Dream 1/3 male body (a resin company that I deal for. ^^ I wasn't aware that they were compatible color-wise, ooh how interesting!) I'm still searching to see if anyone's attempted to do such a thing before as well. I recall reading on Den of Angels something about the obitsu bust being a hard vinyl, but the post was done a couple of years ago and I recall hearing that Obitsu was using a softer vinyl for the outer pieces.. if not - hairdryer! XD

Ah thanks for clarifying that! That's really neat that the resin body they used was color compatible with the DD Option Head 2. Makes me want to do my own research so I too can have a DD Prince But for now I'm going to live through you hehe.

XD Like I said, I'll post all experimenting here. I'm wanting to aim for an all-vinyl body rather than using a resin one. However, I'll also get some pics of my Angel of Dream resins with my DD gals for color reference as well. There needs to be more DD princes for our lovely DD princesses! ^^

Agree with this! Can't wait to see all the details you post here as you make your way through finding all the perfect pieces. An all vinyl body would definitely be ideal!

I actually found myself thinking about this as well once I ordered his chest piece. ^^ I did some head research with SQ Labs sculpts and have three potential candidates for my prince: A more mature looking sultry prince ( I'm getting a real strong Ayame from Fruits Basket vibe off him), A more stoic prince ( he gives me a bit of a Kyouya from Ouran vibe), and a younger more feminine type, who I get the feeling is easily flustered ( He's giving me a real Tenchi from the Tenchi Muyo series vibe. I can practically hear him yelling "why do all you girls always dress so skimpy!?!")

 

^^I have a feeling if all goes well, I may decide to get all three of them, and put that third prince on a DDS sized body.

A Kyouya-type would probably be my first choice. I guess his eyes would have to be modded?

See, I personally would prefer the obnoxious sultry guy, because of the comedy potential. I mean, can't you just picture Ayame and Rarity fostering an over-the-top rivalry? Or trying to troll Octavia, and getting frustrated when he fails? But then again, I've always had a soft spot for crazy characters, so I can see how such a guy could be kind of grating.

 

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this experiment works out by the way. I'm curious how the Obitsu parts will fit on the DD skeleton, as well as how you go about face-upping the SQ Labs head(s) to make them a bit more masculine.

Actually they wouldn't. The SQ Lab sculpt Haruka has eyes that slope upwards which would be good for a more strong-type eye shape for such a character. Essentially right now it's me deciding heads. I may just have to get all three, face-them up and then eventually get bodies for them...

XDDD Oh they would! They would! Gosh, now I've realized I seriously need to throw Az in more to photostories. He's been considering himself "above those silly girls" lately. Maybe I need to do another Ichiko/Jaryth photostory to get him to become more er... interested in what may be going on with these vinyl girls.

 

 

I've done face-ups on sculpts to make them the opposite gender before ( Quinn is a girl sculpt I made into a boy, Skye is a boy sculpt I made into a girl) and since it's anime-styled with the DDs, it shouldn;t be too horrible difficult ( I keep hearing people complain that there are no men in anime shows because they all look so girly. XD)

 

The more I think over it, the more I really just want all three. ^^ Three brothers in this crazy house.

 

Hmm, thinking on names because I really focus on things like this, and also because if they're all brothers, I want their names to be somewhat clever. Right now, I'm thinking Haruki, Natsuo and Akiharu (Spring, Summer and Autumn.)

 

Good news! The chest piece has officially shipped from Japan! ^^ I'm hoping it may be here soon ( I have a convention this weekend) but most likely it will arrive next week.

Yeah I checked for info, and the only info I could find about hybridizing the two came from Den of Angels back in 2004 when the DDI body was the most commonly owned DD body, and Obitsu was still experimenting with soft vinyl body parts. I guess because back then it was impossible, and those threads have been kept as references for everyone that "no, it won't work" means nobody's tried it with the new upgraded bodies.

 

I'm not 100% sure it will work ( honestly I'm most worried that the shoulder joints may look odd because the obitsu should pieces are smaller than DDs) but if a succeed or fail, I'll dobleepent it in this thread for everybody, so we'll be that much closer to having male DDs.

I have been curious about this as well, a male DD would be really cool! Good luck in your experiment.

Back from the convention and just picked up the obitsu chest piece from the post office. ^^ I'm comparing the chest piece to the DD medium busts I have laying around and I can tell everyone right now that the male Obitsu chest piece is shorter, and may not completely cover the inner chest piece. However, I still imagine it will look fine clothed. Have plans to take photos and try all the things tomorrow when I'm not quite as exhausted. However, I can honestly say right now after seeing the two company chest pieces that this hybrid has a 99% chance of working,but it may not be particularly pretty when completely nude.

^^ Well, I performed the experiment today, and here is the picture evidence!!!

 

 

Kogemi decided to volunteer her time today for this experiment. ^^

 

 

As you can see, I used an exacto knife to cut the arm hole a bit larger, as the hole it had initially was too small to fit the DD arm into.

 

Arms removed, DD medium bust off...

 

 

Obitsu male bust on!

 

 

Arms on! Success!

 

Now, to test to see how it looks.....

 

 

Introducing Kogemi ( or should I say Kogero?) testing out the new body with some clothes on!

 

 

In pants! ^^

 

All in all, I think Kogero still looks a bit girly, but I blame that morely on the fact that Kogemi's face-up has very noticeable eyelashes. With a face painted to look more masculine, this body could definitely work well. I'm actually really glad that the inner bust piece covers what would otherwise be a huge gap between the upper torso and the lower torso. Because of this, I declare the experiment a functional success!

 

Now.. to get a couple of heads for further testing....
