I have two Silicone wig cap form coolcat and it is great to keep the wigs on my girls. It does make me feels a bit safer about them getting stain via wearing Dark colour wigs.

Silicone wig caps do not offer protection against stains... it is an characteristic of the material.

Yep, I second this. My buddy AsianEd had a Cool Cats silicone cap on his Rin and her default wig stained her head right thru the silicone cap. So now he has to use a cloth one over the silicone one to hold her wig better. So far, no more stains.

Rin's default wig can stain right through the cloth headcaps too. Mine has some stains on her head where it had gone through (and, of course, staining the headcap itself too). Now, if it'll go all the way through cloth + silicone... no idea.

Are you ready to rock? ^_^

I'd heard that as well so that's why Ed is using two caps now and so far it hasn't caused any more issues.

Wow, staining through the protection is really extreme.

So far I usually used two layers, cloth and silicone, and avoided dark wigcaps.

Unfortunately I had a a very light one that loved to stain too, namely in a bright yellow, and it was the hardest to remove.

Nowadays I usually wash the wigs at least once and let them dry before putting them on dolls, but it's not a 100% guarantee for no stains.

Is great that you guys tell me that the silicone wig cap is not stain proof, I think so far I have been using light colour on my doll that is why I not seen that stain through silicon cap problem. But is nice to know so it won't happen to y girls. Thank you very much for the comments.

I just got mine a couple of days ago along with some tight clothing they have for prevention of staining :3 What I do is that I put on the cloth wig cap then on top of it is the silicon wig cap :3 double protection and fits perfectly with a leekewig 8-9 inches no problem at all :3 also good thing about the double protection I used is that the wig doesn't move when I'm styling the wig of my doll :3 though I've seen some post regarding that silicon wig cap alone could still stain your dolls head so I did the double protection for better :3

Is the white wig cap any better than the clear wig cap? Someone told me the white one was "better" protection (though neither was as good as cloth+silicon). Is there any truth to that?

Just got a white one today, would really like to know if there's any difference (good or bad, especially bad... I remember reading somewhere about vinyl reacting to the silicone) between a white and clear silicone wig caps.

The silicone caps don't provide any protection against staining, dyes go straight through them. They're to prevent the wig from slipping. On Sakuya I have a silicone cap on the head and a cloth cap on top of that, which works great. It helps too because the Crobi Doll wig looks slightly big otherwise.

Tried the white silicone wig cap. I'm not too happy with it, although it really helps round out KOS-MOS' head and holds the wig in place very well.

The soft vinyl of the headcap, and part of the head itself, reacted to the white silicone. There is a band around her head that is shinier and smoother than the rest of her head. Thankfully it doesn't appear on photographs and I can hide it with the wig, but it's just frustrating to me, especially since I notice these things. Hopefully it somehow goes away like the shiny scuff on her bum from the clear elastic from her panties (KOS-MOS default).

Edit: Anyone else notice this with their clear caps? I'm glad that her head is so small that the only part where the silicone had any contact with her head was minimal. Only the edge of the wig cap was touching her head.

Or maybe I'm just being silly and that shiny band around her head was really there to begin with?

This is possible since the chemicals in silicone can leave odd shiny spots even on abs plastics. Did you wash the cap first and dry thoroughly?(Could have been leftover residue of an anti stick chemical from the mold they use) Luckily it is in a hidden space but it may go away over time if you carefully dab with soap and water.

Yeah, should've washed it first. I was just so excited from getting it. Hopefully soap and water works but now I'm not that comfortable using it again.

I can understand being gun shy about reusing it. It could also be a cheaper used silicone material, I'd say worse case it's better to have an odd shiny spot then a crazy wig stain. Though I'm not sure if light blue would leave a crazy noticeable stain like brown or black. In my case like some others the wigs rarely stay in place, I am tempted to get a cap but at the same time I thought of using the velcro tape volks has. Either way silicone or backside tape may leave some unwanted issues Good luck on getting the shiny spot gone.

It could be the silicone that's causing it or maybe the wig itself? I doubt it since you would have seen it but I know if something rubs on the vinyl it could leave a shiny spot as well.

So far I only have light colored wigs and even KOS-MOS' blue wig hasn't stained even after leaving it on for a couple of days. The only reason why I wanted to use the cap was to round out the top of her head (mostly for the other wigs. Although her default wig is a bit loose, it's fine without the cap). XD

I might go for the cloth cap instead. Maybe have cloth, silicone, then wig. And I'm gonna put off changing her eyes until I can afford the volks putty, now that I'm a bit wary about silicone... Even if I have some ear plugs ready here with me.

Sadly, water and soap didn't work on the shiny rim around her head.

I'm 99.99% sure it's the silicone because the shiny rim isn't just shiny, if you look reaaallly closely, the cap isn't entirely smooth. There are tiny lines that run around it. The same lines are now on her head in certain spots.

You're right. Her default undies left a shiny spot on her bum since it uses some sort of clear elastic. But that went away. This one hasn't, though I'm crossing my fingers that it will. I have to really angle the light to see the lines and some of the shine now, so hopefully it's wearing off somehow.

FWIW, I checked Sakuya who uses a white cap and she's fine. While I'm nervous about it now I'll keep using it for now, because putting the silicone cap on top of the cloth cap doesn't work out very well.

What's the environment like where you are? Warm weather?

I know you said that soap and water didn't help but I wonder if the cap itself left a very light residue/layer on the head? It's slowly going away so it seems more like something was added as opposed to rubbed off or a chemical reaction type situation.

I can't imagine the silicone itself damaging your girl after the countless number of people who have used silicone (either as caps or as eye putty) and not had any issues (myself included).

Problem with this is each company has it's own chemicals and process for the silicone and of course the compounds they use to keep the silicone from sticking to their molds. Sadly we all know it could even be from a company even cost cutting for a cheaper silicone compound or even possibly getting a bad batch. Vast temperature changes could effect the firmness of silicone but normally once it is setup properly it stays in its final rubbery or harder forming. I know working with silicone on vehicles and show cars over the years has taught me to always keep it from any plastics for those bad luck scenarios. That residue can be an evil monster if the place didn't clean it too

Haha, I don't think I'd be surprised if I was in warm weather, but I'm up in Canada and I don't really like it warm so I don't have the heater up that high. Probably ranges from 15 c to 20 c max.

If it didn't do anything to yours, maybe mine's just a fluke, or maybe it's the oils like Suiseiseki4life said. I I washed it now and might try using it again. The shine is still there so what the heck.

I know, that's why I was really excited when I got it and super surprised when I removed it. Maybe it was like Suiseiseki4life said, that it's the oils or whatever they used to easily remove the cap from the mold. The shine is still there though.

It could also be possible that the shine was always there and I just never noticed it because there are parts of the head where I'm sure the silicone touched her head but there's no shine. If that's the case, then I'm sorry that I panicked an assumed that it was the cap because that was the only thing new after I noticed the shine. For all I know it was always there ever since I got her.

I'll give the cap another wash and try it again to make sure. If nothing happens, then either I washed it off, or it was always there. If more marks appear, then I must've gotten a defective cap.

Thanks everyone! :3
