juu-yuki Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) DSC_0194 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr I got Sakura 3 days ago and absolutely love her face mold. I am so glad I picked her up . Sakura had a really sweet faceup done by Volks back in 2010. I like her original faceup but I wanted to "improve" it a bit. Sakura was a limited character so I was kind of hesitant on doing anything to her head. In the end I went along with it, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. DSC_0003 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr First off, reference shots, in case I wanted her old faceup back. DSC_0007 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0014 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Next step was to remove her faceup. It was harder than I thought to remove, but in the end I managed to take it all off. Her purple eyebrows left a light stain that I couldn't get off complete. It wasn't very noticeable so I moved on. DSC_0016 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr I don't like drawing out how the faceup will look first as it takes up too much time. I just went ahead and started painting. Half way through, I found that I didn't really like the result or the colour so I had to remove everything and start over. Sorry for the blurry photo, I was itching to remove the faceup T^T DSC_0017 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0020 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Complete!~ I repainted with a lighter brown and added some blush using chalk. For some reason watercolour pencil doesn't draw well on vinyl as it does on resin. I have to run over to my local art store to pick up some paint to finish off her blush. She is wearing her original eyes here. DSC_0029 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0024 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Lets see how the new Sakura looks. Hello gorgeous!~ DSC_0044 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Changed her eyes and wig. DSC_0064 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr With her sister Alice. *might be redoing Alice's faceup also....might """ General tips from personal experience: 1. I won't recommend messing around with a limit head mold if you are not complete sure. I took a big gamble because this is my second faceup.... and thank god it came out alright. 2. If you are right handed, work from left to right. Work from right to left if you are left handed, it will help when you are trying to get both sides to look identical. 3. Try to work on both sides of the face in little pieces. Don't try doing the whole left side and then going over to the right. For example, paint the eyelashes on the left and right eyes before moving to the eyebrows. Trust me, it will be a pain trying to get them to look symmetrical . 4. Work in thin layers. I am not sure if it happens to everyone but my paint never comes out completely opaque. If I rush it the paint will form clumps. T^T 5. Clean up while you wait for the layers to dry. I left my used brushes on the floor (not smart) and totally slipped on it. 6. Q-Tips are your friends . Well, that is all. The whole process took me 2 days. It was mostly on and off because I've been gaming . I hope you found this somewhat useful or at least entertaining? DSC_0050 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Bonus shot!~ I think the glasses are a little big for her. =/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Janurary 16, 2012 I didn't want to make multiple threads about my faceups and customs so I will be posting my faceups here from now on. I was recently talking with PlasticFantastic who suggested that I redo Alice's faceup since I didn't really like it. Sakura's refaceup came out better than expected so I went ahead and redid Alice's faceup. Alice is a limited DDS Reimu head for those who were curious of that head mold she was. DSC_0063 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0064 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr First, some reference pictures... in case I want to go back to the old faceup. You can see my other ref pictures over on my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/juu-yuki/ DSC_0066 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Got rid of the VOLKS faceup, washed, and dried. I would normally spray the head with a sealant before I paint but since it's freezing here in Canada the sealant won't stick. I will just start painting without it (don't worry, the paint comes off easily and won't stain). DSC_0082 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Done. ^^" Sorry, I didn't bother taking process pictures. DSC_0140 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr I have more photos on my flickr if you want to check them out and see some difference angles to Reimu's headmold. Now.... time to refaceup Rina... Nah, just kidding. I won't touch her faceup, even if I was a godly faceup artist. One of her eyelashes is a bit off though... VOLKS employee must have been sleepy or something. I might fix it........... later.... much later. Enjoy, until next time~ ------------------------------------------------------------ Janurary 26, 2012 I am sorry guys, this post is just going to get longer and longer... get ready to scroll LOL. DSC_0170 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr I decided to remakeup Sakura again. I was not happy with the first remakeup since she looks kind of weird... if you see what I see. DSC_0175 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0178 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Here we go, this is the first faceup I did for her. I was originally going to just leave the original faceup alone and just make small changes but I ended up taking off the whole thing. I kind of go into this auto pilot mode when I work and my brain just thinks really really slowly or not think at all >^<. DSC_0181 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr Speed rush through and finished in a day so I could start on my school work. Here is the second faceup. Lets put some eyes in. DSC_0197 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0201 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr DSC_0200 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr It's a very subtle difference but still an improvement. DSC_0199 by Juu-Yuki, on Flickr It's so cold here in Canada that nothing sticks well, be it paint or sealant. -sigh- Until next time guys, it's off to bed for me. Coffee Posted December 22, 2011 That's really cute and well done! Though I must ask, do you use only one color for the eyes when you paint or do you mix it? juu-yuki Posted December 22, 2011 That's really cute and well done!Though I must ask, do you use only one color for the eyes when you paint or do you mix it? I had to mixed my brown with some black for the eyebrows since doing it in layers wasn't dark enough. But other than that that whole face was done in one colour. Very nice work! Thanks Little Very cute Mainly because Sakura has a very cute face mold XD She looks fantastic! I think you did an amazing job, particularly for your second faceup! I really like the second one too and glad I redid it. She looks nice! I love the way you've redone her lips. Thank you! I didnt do much to her lips, just added some of her blush colour to the middle. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com
jadepixel Posted December 22, 2011 Wow, the new faceup is really nice Your gamble definitely paid off! I totally agree with all your tips. It helps to have a small mirror on hand to check the symmetry of eyebrows, but even then it's tricky. I find turning the head upside-down to paint helps somewhat too. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

But I find it hard to paint the eyebrows like that, since I have to draw an upside down U. littlebearries Posted December 22, 2011 Oh! I don't paint it upside down, I just turn it upside down to check the symmetry after I've painted it... it helps to look at things from different ways!
