Pics from Botany Bay! ( Pic heavy )

Recommended Posts

Altho it wasn't a doll meet per se, a local friend and I decided we wanted to go out and about and get some photos with a couple of the girls.  We weren't sure of where to go but luckily, my mom had suggested a place south of us called Botany Bay.  It used to be two plantations but is now a park and nature preserve along with a historical site.  It has lots of roads you drive along and stop along the way to look at things and read about them.

We started out along the main road that followed the marsh edge.  After finding a spot to pull over, we hopped out and got some photos.  I brought along one MDD sized girl this time, Hitomi.  She's an 04 head on an Obitsu 40cm body.

She's very outgoing and inquisitive so she gets into trouble easily.  😉

And of course, she's a climber.

Since this place used to be a working plantation, there are still fields of crops being grown here by local farmers.  behind Hitomi you can see some of those.

My friend brought along her Lucy.  She wasn't too keen on being outside in the heat and bugs.  LOL

Back in the car we head to the next stop.  They give you a map at the trailhead so you can read about what things are around.

Our next stop had a big open area under some large oak trees so Hitomi went climbing again.

Hitomi was right next to the creek where goods and supplies were brought in and out of the plantations here.

Further down the road Hitomi found a big red flower.

We had to cross a marsh on one of the dikes that was built.  On one side is the saltwater marsh seen here.

On the other side was a big pond of brackish water where fish and oysters were stocked for a food source.

Um NO.

"But why not?"

That's salt water and is bad for you my dear.  Plus, the fiddler crabs will eat you.

"THE WHAT?!??!?!"

Oyster shells.  These things can be razor sharp and slice your feet wide open easily.  Ask me how I know that.  :(

"NO!  Behind the big tree silly!"

That tree is covered in Spanish Moss.

Behind the house was an area under some large trees that I think may have been a garden at one time.  There were loads of flowers like this poking up.

And then we had this:

Heading away from the old house we found more brackish water areas.

On the road to the exit was a huge fallen oak.  We hopped across a ditch to go get pics of it with the girls.

You can see the dirt road in back along with our state tree, the Palmetto.

It looks like the tree is someones house!  We saw this skink watching us from a large crack in the trunk.

And that was it!  We plan to go back out there again but with more people for a full doll meet.  It would be neat to do a picnic out there!

Thanks for looking!

Oh nice! You got some fun shots; looks like Hitomi had a blast. . .and that Lucy really wishes she brought more sunscreen, the snowy biscuit.

It was pretty neat.  I would have liked to have hit the beach area but the parking lot for it was packed and it was a half mile walk out there and half a mile back with no shade at all.  So it would have been a death march in the heat out there.... we passed on that.

Thank you!  Hitomi is one of the really active/outgoing MDD girls so she really cut loose.  Lucy was NOT happy about being out there in the sun and heat so to make it up to her, we had buy lots of ice cream on the way home.  😉
