At the last Dolpa in 2024, there were 5 Icons that got no entries so they went up for sale by way of rock/paper/scissors at the end of the last day.  Competition was fierce for those girls.  A maximum of 40 Icons are available at Dolpa so if you miss out, the only other way is to wait for Volks to do an After Party event online.  Those events have even less dolls, usually only 20 to 30, so winning the lottery for those is even harder.

This information is direct from Micky, who runs and manages the Icon doll setup for Volks.  She was super cool to chat with and very happy with how popular the Icons have been.  

In closing, unless you know someone going to Dolpa who isn't interested in getting an Icon and will use their entry for you, you can't get one until they do the After Event.  And that's not always a guarantee that they'll have one.  I know they skipped doing that twice due to low production numbers in the past.  So the aftermarket is usually the best way to get one.... unfortunately that means paying higher than retail prices.

I've always wondered how many dolls they have for the lottery events for the after parties. I figured they were few in number, but not that incredibly low which makes it a pretty special thing to win one.

I also had no idea until I went to Dolpa and talked to Micky.  A good friend of mine who also collects the Icons has been following the releases as much as I have and we were at a higher number as well.  This release will be the 11th time they have been offered for lottery.  As Micky said to me, no more than 40 Icons are available at each of these events so 40x11=440.  That is the maximum number of Icons (not the actual amount) that have been offered so far since they began the line back in 2019.  That's not of each type of doll either.... that is ALL of them.  Every skin tone, every style across all releases.  440 total worldwide.  For being in production since 2019, that is an incredibly small number.  So yes, being able to win one through the lottery is definitely very special.  

For most people who want one, the aftermarket is the best bet.  But you'll be paying over retail for them due to the limited numbers.  Still, if you really want one, you'll have to pay up.

Asleep Eidolon made an official Nikki BJD a few years ago. She occasionally surfaces on Xianyu for insane prices, but is otherwise almost impossible to get now. I don’t really like the semi-realistic style, but hope that TinyFox or another MJD company makes one in anime style. I think it’s unlikely for Volks or other Japanese doll companies to pick up Chinese IPs like this or they already would have done something with characters from the Hoyoverse.

It's a shame that relations between China and Japan are so poor now, because if Volks picked up any version of Nikki, they could also license her outfits and make absolute BANK. Even those that don't play would probably go feral over a doll version of Star Sea!

There’s an online clothing store called Nikki Tomorrow that is officially licensed to make real life versions of Nikki’s outfits, and they occasionally release them in doll size. In the past, they’ve made Sea of Stars and Bloom Poetry in 1/4 and 1/3 sizes.

related, i think i might hold out some hope the lottery opens up after dolpa, or keep an eye out on the aftermarket once it ends. aisha is seriously stunning, and i adore this year's outfit set..... 

How easily can handparts be brought outside of the US?

I managed to find the previous hand set secondhand (xianyu) but I feel that was a lucky find.

Volks US just put up the brand new hand sets for the Petal and Tawny colors.  I'm not sure how you'd get them outside the US unless you had someone in the US buy them for you and then ship to you later.  I have not looked to see if they are available from Volks Japan.  The original option sets are no longer available. 

They also have the brand new DDF3 2.0 Petal and Tawny replacement/upgrade bodies listed for sale now.  So if you want to upgrade your older Tawny girl to matching joints and the newest body, now is the time!

Also, the Dolpa After Event is now up to enter lotteries not only for Icons but for some D'Accord dolls and some resins.  Go hit the Volks US site for all the deets!

Right?  A friend and I asked Mikey about those at the 2024 Dolpa and she said nothing was planned for those. 

We also told her we wanted large bust options for the Icons and she said it wasn't something they planned but she would look into it.  This year my friend asked her again and now that the Icons are out on the newest bodies, the busts are different.  So I seriously doubt we'll ever get them for the older ones on the DD3 and first DDF3 girls.

I'm so used to using proxy/forwarding services for Asia, I forgot I could just ask a friend from the US directly 😅

Luckily he said yes, so I managed to order the body and hands🙏

Yeah. The Icons are super limited in quantity and the fact everyone wants one makes them unicorns for most of us. Maybe someone won't pay or back out and we'll get another chance. 

I won a D'Coord as well. I also entered for a Dear SD Miyu, which I haven't heard anything about yet. Hopefully they just haven't sent those ones out yet or something. I've never really been into the SD dolls, but I think she is really cute. Must be the cat ears! 😸

The emails for the Icons are definitely going out, I know a few people that have won them.  I'm still waiting on an email from them.... hopefully my lottery luck won' go like it usually does, as in not winning.    Ah well.  We still have until the 23rd to see if we won or not.

I put in for Camilla and Aisha.  So far no emails yet.  I'd love to say I still have hope but my track record with Icon lotteries is abysmal at best.  I've only won 3 in the lottery and one of those wasn't even won by me, I was just there at Dolpa when a friend won for me.  😄 

Still, I did ask two friends to enter for them as well so maybe one of them will get lucky!  😉
