Downsizing....How did you feel???

Recommended Posts

carmen171

So, recently I got all jammed up with my bills and decided I needed to downsize my collection in order to get back on track. I had to let two of my vinyl lovelies go. I am sick about it......It was a super tough decision because I did not want to part with any of my dolls, but I had no choice. My question is how did you cope if and when you had to downsize? I find myself looking on YJ and on various forums to see if there are any for sale. Obviously buying them back at this point would put me in the same spot I was in before I sold them so I can't. I am so torn about it, and just feel yucky

Ah, you felt yucky because cirbleepstances made you give up two dolls before you were ready to. I'd say that's a common reason to grieve, whether about dolls, your pet, or anything else you are particularly attached to. Of course you are looking at YJA and pining to get them back!

My dollfie collection is quite modest compared to most everyone's here, so I have not been in the same situation with regards to dolls. However I have sold off some things before, from my childhood, when I thought I was ready to part with them but in reality was not. I can commiserate on the feeling-of-missing-them count.

Maybe re-acquiring those daughters could be a good motivator / inspiration to do whatever it is you need to to get your financial house in order and then set aside that money. It can be much easier to sacrifice other expenses when there's a clear goal in mind for the resulting savings.

I have been in a similar situation and I felt like mourning.... But when things are better you can purchase them back possibly... Or rebuild them if they were OOAK mods? It will be something to aspire to and you'll get a hugethrill from bringing them home again. :3

i wasnt in that feeling, but i have sold some girls because i didnt like them at that time (i was sure i never regret it, but today i regret it totaly ) ...So maybe you should try to keep them ^^" ... Or do it like in a pawnshop? Sell them for a cheap price but be sure you can buy them back when you can? ^^ ... (only with people you knowing good or trust in?)

Well, in the past I sold many many dolls that after a while I just didnt bond with, but Now I fianlly have my doll family exactly how I want it, so it was tough to figure out which ones to sell. I most likely will try to buy one back in the future, and just know in my mind that I have to be more careful.

So far I've been lucky enuff to not get in debt farther than I can dig back out. But if worse came to worse and I *did* have to sell any of my girls, I'd be all sorts of torn up about it. I have no clue who I could part with... all of them are very special to me for one reason or another.

But if I did have to sell up, I'd make sure the girls I sold went to homes I knew and that I would have the right to buy them back at a later date for the same amount I sold them for. I've done this before in other hobbies and it always worked out well. That way, I have the ability to re-adpot MY girls at a later time when I was more stable moneywise.

I would still HATE to have to sell any of my girls tho. Just thinking about it makes me feel ill. I'm sorry you had to go thru that. I sure hope you can recover soon and possibly get your daughters back.

I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I'm sorry that you had to part with some of your girls. It's never fun to sell something because you need the money rather than selling something because you have gotten full use from the item in question. I hope you're able to hang in there and not put yourself back into that situation, and maybe purchase them again or find some other way to make a slight tribute to them when you are in a better situation in the future~ ♥

Thank you everyone for you kind responses. I feel a little better today, but I have learned my lesson. I went a little crazy the past couple of months with the pre-orders and Dolpas etc......I am happy that my girls went to good homes and maybe someday I will be able to get them back> Only thing is you don't see these girls often so I hope I am able to get them later!

Oooooo so you are the wonderful seller I just purchased those outfits from. Thank you again so much!

I really hate that you are having to part with some of your items and girls.

I promise the items I purchased will be put to good use. The Champagne Ribbon Dress is my Yuki's 1yr anniversary gift. And I just couldn't resist my chance at getting that cute loungewear set and that extra cute Love Cats set. I plan on letting my custom white skin girl Sara trying out the Love Cats set. ^_^ I will be sure and share lots of pics of my girls in all their new clothes.

I'm sorry again that you have had to let these items go and some of your girls. I've been lucky so far and I haven't had to part with anything. But it's one of those things where you just never know what might happen and I might end up having to go through the same thing. I know I would just be sick and torn up about it as well. I'm real attached to my 5 girls so it would be an extremely sad day for me if I had to let any of them go.

It is sad when you have to part with girls you are not ready to let go of. Hope you find your way back to financial stability and are able to meet up with them again some day.

DefectiveAngel~ Yes, that was me! Thank you for your kind words. I am so happy that some of my clothing and one of my dollies are on this forum, so I know they will be loved! I have learned my lesson now...I think. I bit off a little more than I could chew but I am good now, and plan to keep it that way!!!

As my Dollfie family grows I feel like I'll have to part with some of my dolls. Several times already I was thinking about selling some of my BJD to keep up with my DD needs. But at this time I still have all my dolls on the shelves and I simply can’t force myself to part with any of them. Though probably I will have to after all.

When I try reasoning to myself on selling dolls the only argument in favor of this decision is that to many dolls will eventually lead to neglecting some of them. And neglected doll is probably worse than a doll which is no longer yours but loved.

Mahoro

If I had to downsize, I can't imagine what other problems I'd be having in my life then if I was that short on money (especially given how much of a cheapskate I am already)...

Other than that, I'd probably sell other things far sooner than any of my girls, especially since I adopt with so much love for them that it normally overcomes my price-brain barrier. Since I often think of them as equally as important as myself...having to lose one would be like having to give up a child if I ever had one (though I'm not really wanting kids). Because I could never trust who a daughter would go to....Next to death, losing one of my daughters would be the worst thing that could happen to me.

Figures I could part with, my manga I could part with, my limited edition doujinshi I could part with, even my computer I could part with before I give up any of my daughters. But I pray it never comes to that.

I agree with Mahoro. I like to keep a good financial cushion under me, but if something happened that forced me to burn through that and I found myself in extreme financial stress, I would definitely look to other sources of income before ever thinking about selling one of my girls. I think the stress I would feel parting with one of them would be too strong to justify selling for the money. Each one of my girls is special to me, and I could never replace them, whether or not there are many out there that look the same. I honestly don't think selling my girls would even register as a concept to me at all, in the same way that many people wouldn't think about selling a pet, or something else that they have become extremely attached to.

I understand the very real financial difficulty some people are faced with, and recognize the difficult decisions that have to be made. This post is merely my own feelings, and is not meant to belittle the choices or opinions of anyone who has sold or is considering selling one of their dolls.
