Alternate Bodies: Night Lolita, Ye Luoli, & More

Recommended Posts

Cauldroness

Hey all!

There has been some discussion about alternate bodies for Dollfie Dream heads, and some confusion about which of those bodies are recasts (recast = stolen, counterfeit design). So I thought I'd put together some information!

First up, a warning:A lot of sellers will spam a bunch of different, unrelated doll names in their listings (this is especially common on Amazon), so proceed with caution with shopping. Make sure you really know which doll you're buying.

LEGIT OPTIONS:

- Night Lolita, also called Ye Luoli / Yeluoli, appear to be original dolls created by a Chinese manufacturer. There are 1/4 and 1/3 size options. The 1/3 size can be used as a body for a Dollfie Dream head and appears to be somewhere in between NS and SWS.

Here's a tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHhJRoea8do

- Obitsu 60cm - Although these have fallen out of popularity in recent years, Obitsu does still manufacture and sell their original 60cm body. It's pricier than other options (about $180-$200) and can be hard to find these days, but it's still cheaper than a DD f3 body and the "Whitey" is a match for Volks NS.

RECAST/COUNTERFEITS:

- Dream Fairy / Fortune Days / Diary Queen - Parts of the dolls are recasts from resin Angell Studio dolls. They are manufacted by DBS; basically stay away from anything from DBS as they are a known recaster.

- EVA BJD - As far as I can tell, this isn't a type of doll but rather a reseller. They often sell Dream Fairy / Fortune Days dolls, although sometimes they seem to also sell Night Lolita. They also spam doll labels, so you'll see a "Dream Fairy Night Lolita Fairyland BJD Doll" -- just stay away from those listings. They're probably recasts.

- LUO / LUODOLL - The worst of the worst! Not only has this company recast (STOLEN) doll designs from multiple companies, they tried to copyright their stolen designs and prevent the original artists from being able to produce and sell their own work. Absolutely vile!

- Kilig Doll / Doris Doll - These are confirmed recasts. They recast parts from Asleep Eidolon (AE) resin dolls and from the aforementioned Night Lolita PVC dolls.

- If you encounter a new doll and are wondering if it's legit or recast, a good resource is the DoA list of banned dolls: https://denofangels.com/doawiki/index.php?title=Banned_dolls - yes, DoA can be really dumb about on-topic vs off-topic dolls, but they generally do not full-on BAN dolls without a really good reason (like being a confirmed recast). I personally would never buy any of the dolls on this list.

QUESTIONABLE???

- UCanaan - So, I haven't seen any indication that their 1/3 or 1/4 dolls are recasts. That said, they do sell recast 1/6 dolls that steal Monster High designs. So approach with caution?? I haven't seen any UCanaan / DD hybrids but it should be possible with a little modding.

Thanks so much. I'm clueless on most of these and mistakenly thought they were all recasts (other than Obitsu). While I'm not in the market for them myself, I've never known what to say other than "avoid" when someone asks about alternatives.

Thank you very much for this.  As we had chatted about before, when it comes to vinyls, I know my stuff.  But when it comes to resins and their recasts, I seriously have no clue about any of them.  So not only does this help me out, it helps anyone looking for an alternative to the SmD, DD and Obitsu bodies.

I knew some of the stuff on Amazon was dodgy, but it's nice to get a proper explanation of what the companies have done and why they should be avoided.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I've seen multiple sellers on Aliexpress using this male body, none of which include the manufacturer's name.  I strongly doubt it's a recast of anything based on the sculpting, but I'd really like to confirm that before I purchase anything.  Does anyone recognize it?

I'd been looking at some Eva BJD dolls on Amazon.  They're only listed as "Eva", not any of the other companies like listed above.  One is a 1/3 with removeable eyes and whatnot, the other is a 1/6 with the same (removeable eyes, etc).  Any confirmation on if these are recasts or not?  Because I do NOT want to mistakenly buy a recast!

you'd have to link them for us to know which ones you are talking about.

Ok!  There's several, and hopefully I'm doing this right.

1/3 girls:

2: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0814GG5Z7/ (this one is actually UCanaan, not Eva)

4: https://www.amazon.com/BJD-Jointed-Customized-Collect-Makeup/dp/B07NM3NPV3/

I only know 1/3 girls well, so I can't help with the boys or the the tinies, but here's what I can tell you:

1: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0828THQ8H/ APPEARS TO HAVE RECAST DD HANDS; APPROACH WITH CAUTION

2: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0814GG5Z7/ (this one is actually UCanaan, not Eva) DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A RECAST? MIGHT BE OK

3: https://www.amazon.com/BJD-Jointed-24-8n-Collect-Dolls/dp/B07PWCGQ3T/ CONFIRMED ANGELL STUDIO RECAST

4: https://www.amazon.com/BJD-Jointed-Customized-Collect-Makeup/dp/B07NM3NPV3/ CONFIRMED ANGELL STUDIO RECAST

Thank you, @Cauldroness.  So, now I know that I can still consider the UCanaan, but will surely avoid the others.  I was rather wary of the Evas, having read the comments on them.  Plus, I *thought* that last one looked a lot like an Angell Studio I'd been looking at before! Hmm... 😏

As to the UCanaan, I know that Mirodoll is selling a vinyl girl with rooted hair rather inexpensively, and when I asked them about her they said they had gotten the dolls at a local toy manufacturer and were simply selling her for those interested, but they were unsure of branding.  Looking at the bodies, they look rather similar to me, though I could be totally off as I am not the best at spotting differences, or at spotting a recast unless it's of a doll I know well.  But I don't think Mirodoll deals in recasts (to my limited knowledge), so I figured it might be safe.

I'm hoping to find out if the boys I listed above are ok.  I'd love to delve into some more vinyl, since my only experience has been a few Obitsus over the years, and the old Volks 1/6 (which is what started me on this road to begin with).  Man, I miss those 1/6s!

One of those girls I swear has recast minifee or similar hands. I would avoid just to be careful.

Assuming there isn't another company under the same name, Mirodoll was banned from DOA in 2018 for recasting an Iplehouse body.  And apparently a Dollstown body previously, also.  Most of their resins seem to be sus, basically.  Here's a link to the DOA thread detailing everything, for receipts, but you may need to be logged in to read it.

Oh!  I'll try and pop that up on my phone later and take a look.  My laptop is dumb and won't let me log into DoA.  I know I got a Mika of theirs back in... um... 2016, I think, and they were ok for DoA at that time.  But I've also been out of the dollie game for a long time, so I guess things have changed.  It's a shame, too, because Mika is a lovely girl!

Unfortunately in the doll world if the price is too good to be true...it is too good to be true. Recasts continue to harm the independent artists of the hobby.

That they do.  I've noticed the plethora of recasts in the resin market, which is just disgusting.  Somehow, my naïve self didn't expect it to be as bad in vinyl, but here we are.

The vinyl stuff is far newer, that is true, just because of production method. But it was only a matter of time before the vinyl market had it happen there as well.

Sadly, that's true - only a matter of time. :(  Such a shame that people have to steal the ideas and art of others!

@Cauldroness Ah, thank you very much for this! I've been looking at getting a 1/3 Night Lolita to see if I could grow accustomed to the size before going after a bigger Dollfie Dream, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out where to find a legitimate one. Much appreciated.

From info I read on another forum talking about Night Lolita it says that EvaBJD bought them out so not sure since some labeled EVABJD seem to be suspect. Unless someone has different information because I can't find any type of site for Night Lolita's. Not certain about the Xinyi either one of the heads looks similar to a resin BJD but I can't put my finger on which one.

My understanding is that EVA BJD acts as a reseller of other brands as well (like an unscrupulous version of Dolk or Legend Doll on the resin side), so they may also re-sell Night Lolita. That doesn't mean they've actually bought the entire Night Lolita company. EVA BJD also has a bad habit of spamming keywords -- I've seen them selling dolls labeled as "NIGHT LOLITA DREAM FAIRY DORIS BJD" -- and then the doll in question is actually only a Dream Fairy doll, they've just spammed the other keywords in the hopes of getting more traffic.

Night Lolita can be found here (you may need a taobao account to shop): https://yeluoli.tmall.com

Here's the inventory of 60cm girls

I don't think Ye Luoli is at danger of being bought out anytime soon. Much like Monster High, the Night Lolita (Ye Luoli) dolls are characters from an animated show that's already in its 8th season: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjZo4FgLe3KT6q5QKwMXLug
