Does anyone know what type of paint Volks sell and if they will ship these sets to Australia?

They look like basic acrylic paints and if that's the case maybe it's easier to pickup some more GW Citadel paints.

What brands are people using for face painting and what are the best products?

I can confirm, the Volks brand paints are acrylics; you can see the listings on the US site here:

Any acrylic paints can be used, so definitely grab something that's easier to find in your country.  But be sure you're using acrylics, and not oils or other mediums.  As for brands, everyone has their own preferences, and there's no 'right' or 'wrong' brand to use.  Airbrush style paints are usually a perfect consistency to use for faceups, as they have a great flow while still being very pigmented, so in my opinion they're a great option (the Volks paints are basically airbrush paints, for what it's worth; they come pre-thinned in dropper bottles).  You can always grab thinner from most brands (including Citadel), and as long as you're using acrylic products, you can use any brand thinner with any brand paint.

More important than your paints is your sealant.  Mr. Super Clear UV Cut Matte is like the gold standard among faceup artists, so if you can find it or import it into Australia, it's worth it.  There are other brands available, but they've been used with mixed success, so I would definitely do research on any other sealant for their use on the type of doll you want to use them on, before committing to buying them.

I might try some Vallejo airbrush paints along with the Citadel pots I have.

How easy is it to remove this stuff if (when) I eventually make a mistake? Will lacquer thinner work?
