Star Trek : Picard (Please use the spoiler function when discussing spoilers.)

I know we have Trek Fans here, after all we have Trek themed dolls all over the place.

Just finished watching season 1 of Picard and I highly recommend it. This is coming from someone who ranks TNG low down on my list of favorite Treks.

I grew up on TOS, and I loved DS9 and Enterprise much more than TNG.

I have to admit 'Picard' is everything that made Trek great, brought forward into the modern television age with an emphasis on drama and very focused on a great cast of characters.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I've trouble deciding if TNG or DS9 is my favorite. DS9 has the better characters, while TNG has the better story.
I've just gotten season 1 of Picard, but not started watching it yet.

But unless it'd be a spoiler, Picard remains faithful to the "original timeline", right? It does not touch upon the "reboot" movies universe?

I believe so yes. I haven’t seen the reboots, so I can’t know for sure, but it seemed really faithful to the original and contained no references that didn’t make sense to me.

There is one event that was depicted in the 2009 film that is central to the story in Picard - the destruction of Romulus in a supernova - but this is a Prime Timeline event and not a Kelvin Timeline event - and that’s something they delve into at the start so it shouldn’t be a spoiler.

There are several Romulans among the main characters in Picard, so we get to learn a lot about their culture. Romulans are starting to feel more fleshed out instead of just being shadowy boogiemen, and their culture feels more complex instead of being monolithic. I.e. think back to Mark Leonard’s portrayal of the original Romulan.

I’ll be curious about your impressions of season 1 after you’ve seen it. I basically devoured it in 2 days.

I thought part of the ending was a little cheesy, you know, that one bit regarding that one dude, but beyond that, it was excellent.  TNG and DS9 are my favorite Trek series, so it wasn't a hard sell to get me interested in this series.

The first season of Picard is set in the "Prime" timeline of TOS, TNG, DS9, Voy and Enterprise.  And Discovery?  I guess that's meant to be part of the Prime timeline, although Starfleet could have shared that spore drive with Voyager.

I'm looking forward to Q in the next season, and whatever timeline hopping silliness the trailer seems to be implying.  I'm hoping for Worf to appear.

If it’s the scene I am thinking of, I thought the song was great, but I can see how the scene itself could be called cheesy. I think I know what they were going for in concept though.
