Questions from a beginner: Storage, wigs, and more

You can generally protect the doll from stains by keeping her in white clothing when you aren’t doing things with her. Dark clothing should only be worn with a bodysuit or for short periods. Stains can happen with just a few seconds of contact, so a bodysuit is best. Any fabric with dyes has the potential to stain, but lighter colors generally don’t. Dark colors are probably dyed more heavily in order to super saturate them and make the colors look richer, so there is a lot of excess dye in the fabric for the vinyl to absorb. With white fabric there isn’t any dye. Some synthetics have no stain risk because the color is a part of the material.

I often keep my girls in white swimsuits because there is no danger of stains and you can put clothes on right over the swimsuit. The swimsuit also acts as a partial bodysuit. Volks also sells a variety of night gowns in light colors every year or two, and those are a safe thing to dress her in that can be removed easily to dress her in other things. In a way their nightwear is really made for the doll to rest in.

There are things like this dress which is held on by a few hooks and a snap, and which falls right off when you undo the hooks. It probably takes less than a minute to dress or undress her so it’s ideal for when she’s going to sit on a shelf for awhile:

This one, which is little more than a smock with ties in the back. I don’t have this one, but the outer part seems like it would slip right on and back off with a few simple ties holding it in place, and the blue ribbons are unlikely to stain.

They also have baby dolls, which are made to go over underwear, and none of the colors they currently offer cause stains.
