School Uniform Detail

After looking at Haruka's Dolpa School uniform, I am reminded of the one thing thats stopping me from trying to make one myself. And thats: how do you do those white stripes? The part that is on the blue collar portion and sometimes the sleeve cuffs. Also sometimes on the skirt

 

I haven't the foggiest idea how I'd go about trying to make that detail

Thin ribbon. Very thin ribbon sewn onto the fabric.

Or you could use fabric paint.

hmm, I had thought of using thin ribbon, but how would you attach it?

Usually the ribbon is attached with very small stitches using thread that matches the ribbon, so it doesn't stand out.

You can also attach ribbon with fabric glue, but be careful not to smudge the glue around. Just apply a bit at a time with a toothpick and give plenty of time to dry.

You can applique it using those iron-on applique adhesives. I've heard pretty good things about them.

I second the ribbon! And just go slowly through it with a machine, or, if you're feeling scared, your hands.

Or white fabric, folded over, ironed (so no raw edges show), and sewn the same way.
