0bsequi0us Posted December 4, 2025 This is not explicitly about vinyl dolls, but it still feels relevant so... Adventures in anime wig styling! I've been frankly terrified of modifying wigs since basically the moment I joined the hobby, but I got a wig styling bust like a year or so ago and I've been sloooowly getting more comfortable with styling wigs. Initially I just used steam, which worked okay for just taming bangs into an "M" shape. Recently though I've been experimenting a little more with heat tools and gel to really go crazy with the ahoge and such. This is my first real try, using this weirdly-sized wig that seemed sort of unsalvageable anyways... I went into styling this wig with the understanding that I might ruin it, so I chose a wig that was already busted 😭 I was very cautious using my flat iron, so I only used it on the ahoge and little side bits. I used Got2b glued to hold them together and I was quite impressed! It works great and doesn't dry sticky. I think it turned out quite cute for a first try, actually! Sort of an alien antennae type vibe, but that worked out for the quirky doll it ended up going to. This is my most recent attempt! This time I wanted to try to give the wig a little more volume with my flat iron, and it ended up turning into this scruffy lil thing! I'm still clearly a novice but I'm actually surprised at how decent these have turned out. 0bsequi0us Posted February 1 More wig styling practice 🤔 It's cold out so I can't really do any of the faceups I'd like to do. A few weeks ago I wanted to see how much more difficult it would be to style a smaller wig, so here's my very quick and lazy attempt at styling my 1/6 imomodoll's wig. I've had beef with this wig for a while (the bangs never sit right, and it likes to slide off) so I knew I wouldn't be heartbroken if I ruined it. I tried styling this wig completely dry, no water and no gel, just heat. It turned out more soft and fluffy, which is actually pretty cute. This next one is for my Chimikko hybrid-- I've had this resin Dombur1 head for a while, but just recently actually finished it. I decided to give it a freaky blue-tongued skink vibe, and I wanted a matching wig. This one came out really cute, I only gelled the bangs and ahoge so it's mostly still pleasant and soft to the touch 😌 And my most recent wig, finally making use of this garish pastel mop I've had for years but never managed to use... Believe it or not those pink things were meant to be intakes, I just still haven't gotten the hang of intakes yet 😂 I think the base wig's part wasn't doing me any favors. Despite that, I actually really like how this one turned out too. I'm realizing (to the horror of all the wigs in my possession) that even if my wig styling is sort of poor I still end up liking them better than they were before. 0bsequi0us Posted Thursday at 10:21 PM My DDB outfit finally arrived, and unfortunately I can definitely tell the difference between this and the "close enough" sizing I've been settling for 🥲 It looks so good on him, especially the shorts. I also actually got a short spell of unseasonably warm weather, so I was actually able to paint a couple heads! One of them was one of the vinyl ZAZ heads, so technically on-topic... He turned out so cute, I love the shape of these heads! 🥰 I don't think this wig and style will stay though, the super pastel wig looks weird with how dark the lines of the face ended up. My next project is attempting a more pastel faceup to match the wig... maybe subbing brown for purple or something. This is the other faceup I did, he's resin though. 😗 Forest Doll's Little Moutou, the 1/6 version. Thanks! 😙 I got it from this taobao listing, they have it in quite a few sizes and color options (I just got blue and white because it seemed least likely to stain 🥲) I will warn it took a while to be ready though, I think 3-4 months? Yes, I have found myself leaning towards lighter clothes for this same reason haha. Gosh, I really need to start figuring out how to use Taobao.
