finnleo Posted July 29, 2023 So starting another photoset gathering post, since there might be more in the near future. To start off on this very gloomy and rainy day I dug out my Delia (or Mariko) to feature some of the recent purchases both in terms of doll stuff and camera stuff. However at the same time I had to admit to one rather dissapointing truth that the head has a grey discoloration issue going on which is beyond my usual LED allergy issues, which will show more if you view the photos with a white surround, but isnt as bad in a grey box setting, so keep this in mind. But in anycase Delia got the mint green sweetie dress, and a pair of purple eyes from the most recent manda box, a wig that had tagged along with Noa that drove me banana's with the front bangs, and the shots were taken with the 50mm prime for the wide shots and 70-300mm zoom for the up and personal closeups. delia051 delia052 delia053 delia054 delia055 delia056 delia057 delia058 delia059 delia060 delia061 delia062 delia063 To be continued...? 8 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

finnleo Posted August 2, 2023 Thanks, delia (mariko) is quite nice, although I sort of wish her eyebrows were a bit more dark, since they even really go with her default twin-braid wig oddly enough. However... next batch. I decided to get old Nanoha out for a set, since it had been about two years since the last session, and I put some time in prepping her, although in typical fashion trying to figure out a set of eyes for her was a case of "too small, too big, too narrow, too green" etc. But finally I was forced to go to one of my sabers and inform them that its better to give. In addition to that I got her default wig, and gave it a bit of a snip here and there at the front, and it was off to the races. But I do comb the long wigs whenever i take them out, which is needed since theres typically some minor tangles starting to form, despite keeping them in wig-nets and their packaging when i put them away. So far ive only lost one superlong wig to terminal tangles, but that got chopped into my custom megumin wig. Static is my main bane and there seems to always be that one stray hair out of place. finnleo Posted August 28, 2023 So the next entry in the collection comes by taking Nia and the smaller of the two M+V Studio Fox miko outfits. For the outfit I actually had to dig up the reference photos of what went where, since it wasnt quite as intuitive as I would have liked. There are also features that I didnt really appreciate, like the steel wire in the big red and white knot at the back of the obi, and the way the included tail attached to the doll by means of elastic bands. The tail got a bit of a upgrade with a fairly gnarly sized magnet, but oddly enough there wasnt any form of wire inside it, so it pretty much just pokes straight out without much in the way of posing possibilities. At this point I also took the liberty of moving the tail underneath the skirt, instead of over it as per the reference shots. Other excuses include the first time dabbling with hair wax for the unruly classic Volks bob wig, and the ears made framing the shots fairly entertaining in a negative way... also some other stuff added towards a fairly low photo count as well. anyhoo... nia100 nia101 nia102 nia103 nia104 nia105 nia106 nia107 nia108 nia109 nia110 6 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Even with the frustrating assembly, you made her look so good! That snaggletooth and sly expression holds so much character that the outfit only amplifies. Perfect fox spirit material she is. I can't decide whether she's contemplating her next scheme... or deciding whether or not to eat me. 😅 Even if the bow in the back was a pain, it still adds nice visual presence, and the entire obi has so much nice detail and embellishment that it ties everything together. Also loving the rainbow ribbons in her hair. And for a first time styling wigs with product, you did well! I doubt I could manage one into anything. Although some clarifications about the wig I guess are in order, its not the first time im styling with additives, it was just the first time using fairly solid hair-wax, and not gel which I had used before. But unfortunately the end results were very similar, that instead of one mass of hair being swept to the side at the front, I got several clumps that didnt want to reattach to eachother despite some effort. Its not horrible, but It was what I went with since I didnt have time to wash the wig and try again, since my options in the platinum white range didnt quite fit the theme. also the gripe with the bow at the back is more about the wire peeking from within the threads, that was its own thing trying to keep in check. In typical Studio Leftovers (tm) fashion, there is no photoshopping (since we cant afford it), the fashion is from the catalogue from the year before (cheap and cheerfull), and the model is a beauty queen of decades past (even cheaper... sort of). and the lighting is very much in the models face, since bigger units and/or multiples of existing ones are under investment embargo... But since it was autumn I decided to swap the backdrop to a burgundy one, put Melty into one of the knit onepiece hoodie dresses (Where the hoodie bit is unfortunately just for decoration). But I suppose in terms of the annual pumpkin day I set out with a budget of ten euros for decorations, dug up megumin from the closet and wrapped her in the old Azone halloween witch costume. Technically its an attempt at low light long shutter shinenigans, however my main LED lights couldnt be dimmed enough so that the decorations were able to pop enough, also could have blacked out the bases of the fake candles in the lanterns, and I also need to redo the cotton wrap on the staff since its starting to come apart, but anyhoows: Megumin028 Megumin029 Megumin030 9 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

finnleo Posted October 31, 2023 thanks. for straight out of the camera stuff, the photo's are ok in my oppinnion, but i just have a (bad) habbit of pointing out stuff I wasnt 100% happy with. speaking of which, there's also the lost opportunity of megumin riding her staff like a witch would a broom (Though that would require some kind of marionette setup with fishing lines...), so there is room for improvement for a re-attempt next year.. maybe. finnleo Posted November 4, 2023 (edited) So getting the new Snow miku outfit in, so it was time for a minor upgrade to Snowy who has been sitting more or less in her fluffy coat set since arrival... but before the big swap, I decided to take a set with her old wig and eyes, in one set of fancy pants unmentionables that were only fit for pettankos... I also gave the wig one last snip and tuck so the front bangs were a little more like they should be. And as usual, there's no photoshopping involved other than resizing, so is a fairly hearty dose of stray hairs to be seen... I only did one experimental light effect photo, since I wasnt really in the mood to start figuring out any elaborate setup, and also even though I would like to take her outside for shots winter has started out really crappy here, and isnt really looking to get any better either... so this is going to be it for the moment.
