Some questions about buying Dollfies in Japan

Recommended Posts

meow

In a few months time I will visit Tokyo for the first time and of course I will be going to one of the Volks stores (likely the Akihabara one).

I'm thinking of getting a Dream Choice, if not a standard model, and I have a few questions regarding payment.

1. Is the Dream Choice tax free (for foreigners)? I heard that the other products are tax free but I haven't heard anything about DC being tax free.

Also how does the tax free work anyway?

2. Does the shop accept cash? For buying the dollfies specifically since they cost so much.

I'm bringing a lot of cash with me since I don't want to deal with extra charges on my card from using it abroad.

Thanks in advance!

Someone definitely correct me if it's no longer the case, but when I went in 2020 I'm pretty sure it was tax free. They'll ask if you want tax free/tell them that you do and they'll take a few minutes behind the counter to write up the things that they need to and put it into your passport(at least that's where they put mine)

A lot of places in Japan are actually cash only still, so I'd be VERY shocked if Volks did not accept it. That would be VERY uncommon. Never seen anyone say they don't, so you're probably good to go there too.

Frequent Doll Point visitor here! Volks is definitely tax free and should also be for Dream Choice. I haven't used this option myself since I live here, but it shouldn't be any different than a normal purchase, I'd imagine. Volks definitely accepts cash, so no worries there. They accept cash, credit, PayPay, etc.

Hope you enjoy your upcoming visit! Always fun going to Volks.
