DDS 2.0 Karin?

Hi everyone!

I don't know much about Volks, but I'm considering getting a DDS Karin at some point in the near future. However, from what I've seen, Volks is slowly releasing a new 2.0 body for all their models, and the DDS one has been announced.

Do we have any idea when it's going to be released? Should I get the f3 DDS Standard Karin or wait until the release of the DDS 2.0 body? Will they update their standard models with the new body? What's their usual procedure on this?

Karin was sold on the DDIII body first, and then they updated her to the f3. They might update her again, or they may retire her and bring out a new standard DDS in her place.

They released new standard models (Yuzu & Koume) alongside MDD 2.0, so following that pattern, Karin might also be replaced once DDS 2.0 is released.

DDS f3 has the most modern looks & engineering out of the current models, IMO. It's not a bad choice at all.

Thank you both for the info! Sounds like if I really wanted Karin, her current body would still be a good choice. We'll see!

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you. From what happened with MDD Liliru, she didn't immediately drop out of stock once she was announced to be discontinued. Hopefully we get a similar buffer window now for DDS and can safely grab a Karin even if she's discontinued for the 2.0 switch.

I would imagine Karin, Towa, Mirai, and Candy will follow suit with Liliru. They've been around for a good while now (originally released in 2017 on the DDIII, again in 2018 on the f3) and I think they've lasted longer than two previous sets of standard models (Yukino/Aoi v1, Yukino/Aoi v2 and Mayu, Rena, Miko). With Liliru's head being added as a DDH-sculpt, I wouldn't be surprised it Karin, Towa, and Mirai/Candy end up doing the same-- over on the SD side, the standard model sculpts are eventually added to the Super Dollfie Full Choice system, a loose equivalent of the Dream Choice setup we have with DD. (I also really, really want a tan Towa and semi-white Karin 😂)

I don't recall if they officially announced discontinuation of any of the current standards aside from Liliru, but I wouldn't be surprised if they already stopped production. To give some perspective: on the SD side, Mai/Nico/Mel/Momo/Hina/Noa were discontinued back in July of 2022, but only recently sold out. New SDM standards weren't announced until earlier this year, and new SD10 standards have yet to be announced. I wouldn't be surprised if any potential new DD standards are also slow to release as well. I'd imagine they may be waiting until all of the main bodies are upgraded to 2.0 and up for sale (DDS and DDdy at least.)
