Different heads on MDD body?

Recommended Posts

Michelle

I'm still pretty new to the hobby, but I absolutely love my first Dollfie Dream, which is an MDD. I have a small collection of floating heads lying around, including a DDH-06 which I actually really like on the MDD body (thank you to this community for the posts recommending this match!). I'm planning to keep my Mariko, DDH-03, and Mai Shiranui on 1/4 scale bodies as well, because I really like the size and also because I have limited shelf space. Just curious, what non-MDD heads (like DD, DDS, or DDdy) do you think also suits MDD? If you have any dolls with these combinations, please show me pictures of them ðŸ¥° In general, I'd love to see everyone's dolls.

I did once make a YouTube video about this. The general conclusion I reached is that regular DD heads don't look quite right on MDD bodies.

The doll family is a lot larger since we last attempted this. We'll probably not try it again because head swapping is considered taboo in our household.

So anyway, DDdy Towa looks kind of strange...

Of all the combinations I tried, Kizuna AI looked about the best:

Both are on MDD Rena Ryugu's body.

My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number (and Sakura Miku is on the way).

Not Dollfie heads, but Imomodoll heads all seem to fit just fine, as well as Real Doomsday if you can track one of them down. Dollbot heads miiight work, but are pretty dang huge compared to your average Dollfie head.

👆 Since Dollbot is designed to go on an MDD-scale doll, with a head sculpted by an artist known for making MDD-compatable heads, busts, and hands, it would look great... if the neck-holes were compatible. Unfortunately, to plop a Dollbot on an MDD, you'd have to permanently open the neckhole, which would only be worthwhile on a Platinum (Flesh) girl, since their tan matches nothing. I've been comparing my Dollbot since s/he arrived last week, and the head, despite its noticeably larger size, looks pretty comparable once you slap a wig on. Stylistically they fit with MDD very well.

You already mentioned Mariko, who looks great as an MDD, but another girl I've always felt looks good on smaller bodies is Yui from K-On:

...Turns out she's a smaller DD head in general. I was able to replace her hard headcap with a Smart Doll soft one, and it worked fine functionally. (Aesthetically it wasn't a perfect fit, but that didn't matter) In my opinion she looks a little pinheaded on the default DD body.

I haven't tried it yet, but DDH14 is definitely smaller than the average DD intended for the bigger bodies. Unlike Yui though, she looks proportionate on them, so I'm not sure how she'll be on MDD.

Thank you for the info! By any chance, can you share a link to the video you made? I think Kizuna Ai looks quite cute on this body, and I also agree that Towa doesn't look quite as proportional.

I've seen Real Doomsday and Dollbot heads before but I'm not sure if they're really my style ðŸ˜… As for Imomodolls, I've considered getting one in the past but I like the original bodies, so I'm not sure about hybriding them. I wasn't aware that Real Doomsday was compatible with MDD, so thanks for the info!

Yui is so cute!! I also think that she looks better on MDD ðŸ˜Š I didn't think of the possibility of DDH14 on MDD before, I just realized that you're right about it being smaller than usual lol. Unfortunately, I'm not getting a Dollfie Dream Choice any time soon (a little too pricey for me atm), so I wouldn't be able to test it out.

I agree that DDH-06 is great on MDD, one of my Harukas is that combination as well.

Although I can't really picture DDH-03 on a MDD body at all, probably becaue mine is a DDB and feels very well balanced to me, even though I know that 03 is among the smaller heads.

I'm so happy to find a fellow MDD DDH-06 enjoyer ðŸ˜„ As for DDH-03, I plan to keep it on a 1/4 Lady UFdoll body which looks a bit more mature than the MDD. The scale and proportions are generally quite similar to MDD, but I think the shoulders are a little wider.
