Organizing – How you proceed and heads and wigs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was thinking about how I would be storing my Smart Doll stuff and I started looking at organizing ideas on the internet. I was wondering how you proceeded in storing and organizing your things, especially the heads and wigs. The small cardboard box that comes with the dolls is just not enough for me as I’ve accumulated more than it can handle. I’d really appreciate it if you could help me with this, I’m looking for something that makes finding, identifying them and seeing them easy to do. I don’t feel like displaying them. I want to have them tucked out of sight and focus on exhibiting my dolls.

Also, I’d like to see how you go about in storing your Smart Doll stuff :).

Thank you.

I remember someone on the forums (SFSakana) had an Insta story showing how she stored her wigs... IDK about everything else, but I thought her wig storing technique was a good one!

I don't store so much as display? I have my dolls in a hobby room with UV protect cling film over the windows, and they I have Billy Bookcases (Ikea) with doors so everyone can stand freely.

It's been working great though, minimal dust thanks to the glass doors, and no noticeable yellowing at all, even on older resin dolls.

I've got spare wigs, eyes and hands all in a drawer. The hands and eyes are still in the original packets. I placed some old CD storage tower sections in the bottom of the drawer because the hand packs fit good in them and helps keep them organised.

For my wigs, this is my system:

  • re-bag them to an appropriately sized one (especially for small wigs)
  • recycle the paper support they often come with (it’s very space consuming and I find my wigs are safe without it)
  • replace the paper tissue stuffing with a styrofoam ball
  • re-use the hairnet provided or add one if needed
  • add a tag by attaching it to the hairnet with a hang-tag snapping string and write the details of the wig on the tag (size, where purchased, and maker/brand)

I've set-up a wig styling stand using a paper towel stand with a double sided screw on top to which I can screw in extra styrofoam balls to. I then pin the wigs to the styrofoam as I'm working on them. The paper towel stand is secured to my desk with c-clamps that are cushioned with washers to prevent movement and damage.
