Dealing with doll customisation anxiety?

Recommended Posts

luna_Lillie

I've asked a similar question awhile ago- but for some reason I'm still thinking about it (´-﹏-`;)

At some point I want to send my DDs for custom face-ups, but I can't get the thought out of my head that people will deem it as me "ruining" them (Especially for certain dolls like Anthy).

I have no idea why it's bothering me so much, since I know it's super common for people to customise their "limited" dolls. it's simply people doing what they want with their personal belongings.🫠

@luna_Lillie I get where you're coming from, and honestly there probably are going to be some people who get upset by such things, but the truth is that every hobby has people like that, and all you can really do is ignore/avoid them.

However, you're also right that you will be far from the first person to customize a character doll, and most people will fall into one of these camps:

1. Won't notice it was a character doll, at least if you plan on vastly changing the appearance

2. Won't care, or

3. Won't say anything negative even if it does irk them, because they know it's not really their business/worth getting into an argument over

Gallye

I completely hear you. I only wiped the faceup on my Kaito because I found and bought an incomplete doll - he was never going to be a pristine perfect fullset, so wiping the faceup only made one further change.

I didn't buy Kaito direct from Volks, even though I loved his face, because I wanted to let people who wanted the fullset get it. Then I didn't buy secondhand fullsets because, well, same. I only bought him once I could be assured in my mind that I hadn't stepped on any fullset toes.

It's rough, but we can't help how we feel about it. And Giallo is right - we probably care about it more than 99% of the people who will see the doll. Try to tell yourself you're overthinking it, I guess. Maybe some day we'll believe it!

Perhaps a little Positive inspiration to take that Custom-Face-Up Plunge is in order here?

Thanks guys , really appreciate the replies 🙏 - yeah I'm just overthinking it...

I'll enjoy them default for awhile, but I will send them out eventually. To make them personal to me (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

Spoiler

Most people who comment on it mainly care about resale value anyway , which-  my dolls are the last thing I'd ever sell.

Testament

It is an extremely personal matter and as such everyone must follow their heart.

For example, I cannot in my heart make modifications that are not reversible. If I buy something I must always be able to return to the condition in which I bought it, but not for resale reasons, I have never sold anything in my life, but because when I buy something, I buy it for what it is not for what I would like it to become.

If I have to make modifications, as in the case of dolls, I always try to buy loose parts or blank heads on which I can work more lightheartedly. But you don't always find what you want.

I get you. I don't think I'll ever be able to have any of my DDs ears pierced for example (even if it's what volks suggests for some releases).
