capsuledolls Posted July 2, 2025 Similar to some other folks in here I saw them online in middle school, usually through pretty photos on Deviantart LOL. I found my first one for cheap on eBay but never connected with her and ended up selling. I finally got back into DDs when I got a mini dollfie dream with an artist-customized head, she is just too cute. I ended up with Y'shtola and customized her since I loved her sculpt so much. Always loved the outfits people made and wanted to take my own cute photos of these dolls!
meltystardrops Posted July 20, 2025 Personally, I saw some BJDs wayyyy back in the mid 2000s at a convention and fell in love with them. I wasn't able to get into them though until a couple years ago, just because I never had the space to display them (╥_╥) Now I'm hooked on MDDs, and they've definitely multiplied since I got my first one!
wings Posted July 24, 2025 like others i first saw them online on social media around the time i was in highschool but of course couldn't afford them until i was older. i originally had started my doll collection with 1/6 scale mamachapps but have since moved on to MDD scale dolls, most all of my girls are dollfie-imomo hybrids but i really enjoy collecting/customizing dollfie head sculpts ~

bunnymint78 Posted August 6, 2025 maybe about a year ago i was on taobao and came across a page for bjd outfits, it’s a small artist/company that does pre-orders and they had a lot of pretty photos so i started looking into resin dolls at first, but after awhile i realized i liked the anime/style dolls more and found how easily customizable DD and Imomo was

Rajke Posted September 16, 2025 Once upon a time. Shortly after and somewhere in between time that cannot be exactly traced back. When having a smart phone was a new thing. When people went to the cinema to watch New Kids Turbo. Probably not at the third Tuesday of September (Prinsjesdag). When cars had easy electronics and where no-one ever heard about Labubu’s I discovered the existence of vinyl BJD’s because of the photo below. Photo made by Vins, original uploaded on My Figure Collection. From that point I admired the beauty of Dollfies and Smart Dolls and other BJD’s from afar. Literally from afar because I only could see them through the internet photos. But then at January 2019. The company DollChateau released as a new year’s event in the form of the skeleton mermaid Fuya. I wanted it so badly that I started to look how I could get it locally. I placed an order with a local doll shop and had to wait for her arrival. During that same year I ordered by DC Smart Doll Kizuna. From that point it went a bit out of control and they tend to multiply over the years. Currently there are 11 girls here. See spoiler below for the current doll family. DesertPhantom51 Posted September 26, 2025 I had admired resin dolls for a long time, after finding out about them via Rozen Maiden, like everybody else. They seemed so pie in the sky in terms of price to me at the time, I just had to admire them and didn't dream of having one. I moved on and forgot about dolls for the longest time, and got into vinyl figure collecting. Especially around the Metroid franchise but also all of my favorite anime characters and even some Disney characters. Then in one of the threads I was reading on a message board about upcoming figure releases, someone posted a picture of their Miku DD. I was in awe, she was customizable, posable, and so dang cute! I started looking into this new kind of doll and found out it was a doll from Volks whom I was already very aware of, and the dolls were much more affordable, but full sets seemed very steep still, and I couldn't afford that all in one go at the time without some saving. So I sat and admired, and found SmartDolls which were slightly more affordable and unlike the Volks fullsets, weren't limited releases (this was in the before times....) and I was intimidated by the customization process. So I started saving, and was planning on getting either a Melody or a Kanata. As I was saving and thinking about what I wanted to do with them, and the clothes and getting excited, I happened across a maker on Etsy who did custom DD faces, fairly priced, and seemed easy to work with, I looked around my office at my massive Metroid collection and had an idea. So I took the dive, messaged ShiNes about wanting a custom Samus doll and paid the money for the head. Once she arrived, I installed her eyes and she was so gorgeous in person and put her on a DDS body and the rest is the rest. After a year I felt comfortable enough with the pictures I was taking that I started sharing them here, and from there more and more girls came knocking on my door. I've loved my time in this hobby so far, it helped me dust off my abandoned photography skills, learn to sew, learn to solder, learn to do woodworking, learn about wiring, and learn about painting miniatures. It's really been a blessing for me personally (as cheesy as that sounds) and it's been a great way to fill up my time with something other than video games and movies. (not that there's anything wrong with those things.)
