PlasticJester Posted Friday at 01:24 PM (edited) I was already a bjd fan, and an anime fan, so I had been stalking the dollfie dream and mini dollfie dream tags on Instagram for years before making the leap! I have, uh......4 dollfies, an obitsu, a half-finished angelphilia, 3 tinyfox, a dollbot, and 2 imomodoll. So I have a lot of different brands! Edited Friday at 01:24 PM by PlasticJester miscounted! Xiongmao Posted Friday at 01:57 PM The unboxing that started it all. Back in darkest 2020 I thought I needed an emotional support doll. Like almost everybody I thought of getting a Miku but at the time there weren't any easily available. Because I already knew about DC I immediately thought of SmD but it turned out that Miku Miku dolls were made by Volks. So I went with DDdy Towa. I largely went with Towa because I loved her sweet and innocent expression, and she was also a lot cheaper than the licensed characters. Towa now has a very large family and she's still in near perfect condition apart from grubby fingertips and various joint issues that have been with her since birth. My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. Towa believes they are 34 in number (and Sakura Miku is on the way).
Dolle44ka Posted Friday at 04:13 PM I've been mainly collecting 1/6 scale dolls, because the size and the price of bigger BJDs/MJDs repelled me. Then my partner got me an Azone doll for this valentine's day, and I fell in love with the feel of bigger vinyl dolls. One DD, one MDD and one Imomo have joined my doll family since then
Giallo_Gatta Posted Friday at 05:10 PM It started way back in middle school, for me. I was looking for things that my brother could 3D print for me, since he had offered, and through 3D printed dolls I discovered the Smart Doll plus page, and I was fascinated. Through Smart Doll I discovered Dollfie Dreams, and then regular BJDs, and I obsessed over them on and off until 2023, having my own money now, purchased and customized a MDD. And I love her! In addition, I also own a custom Picco Neemo, a Minifee whose face up I just completed, and I have a DDP body waiting for me at the post office and an Imomodoll that should be arriving next Monday-Tuesday. Gallye Posted Friday at 07:18 PM I've collected resin BJDs for many years, and part of that hobby, for me, was poking around Mandarake looking at the doll section. One day I saw this absolute hot mess of a modded DD - she had a pair of dealer-made jointed hands which were the wrong color for her and broken anyway, her eyes had fallen in, her entire head was awash in this swamp of nasty melted eye putty - but, underneath the mess, her modded face looked nice and her body was perfectly okay and I knew I could replace the hands. Because of the mess, she was reasonably priced, and something about this hilarious mess just spoke to me. So I impulse-bought her. When she arrived, I spent well over an hour gingerly picking the melted eye putty off her face, hoping she wasn't damaged underneath it. She wasn't. The eyes that had fallen into her head were older limited-edition Volks eyes, too, and the jointed hands were cool to mess with. I replaced her hands and wrist balls, got her a wig and something to wear, and now somehow I have three DDs and a fourth getting his face done. Anyway, I had been on Den of Angels for many years, and therefore I was aware that DollDreaming existed - when this vinyl mess burst upon me I came right over here to learn more about her. I've been lurking in my little corner ever since.
Tasuke Posted Friday at 08:04 PM (edited) Been Here since 2015. Came in, looking for Fellow Anime Doll Fans to Commune with. Started out in Dress-Up and Modding with Anime Chara Dolls back around 2001 when a 12in. TOYNAMI "Tenchi Muyo!" Princess Ayeka Masaki Jurai single-handedly inspired me to dive into the Doll Customization Hobby. 13 years... - and Several 1/6 Girls Later - i Discovered This Forum, right around the same time that had i taken notice of AZONE's "Happiness Clover" series of OBITSU 50-Based Girls... and fell in love with their Early, "Oriental Charmy" Kureha. Of Course; i wasn't in any Position to afford to Break in to these Amazing Jumbo♥Hunnies at that time... So; Kureha and Co. were to Remain a Pipe Dream... for a good Decade yet to Come. Lo and Behold; in 2024 i was able to finally Dip In with large-scaled Anime-Style Dolls via a 40cm. IMOMO DOLL "Mayoko" ("Rucy" Head) and; in Very-Early-2025, i was able to finally welcome an AZONE H.C. Kureha into my life, by way of her 2022 "My Sweet Girl" Edition. a couple of months or so on, and i had a SECOND Happiness Clover 50cm. Girl headed my way, this time a "Your Early Spring" Yukari Sasamori. ...And Here I Am Today; with a Kureha (not the Oriental Charmy that had made so strong an impression in 2015... but a Kureha Mihagi all the same) and a Custom Mashup of the 2017 Spring Yukari and that 2024 IMOMO Mayoko into "Mayuka Sasamori" I Honestly don't know if i'll ever cross over to VOLKS DD... as the two 50cm OBITSU Girls i have now are already Better than i had ever realistically foreseen myself ever owning... but, That Said; Who Knows what the Future may yet Hold? Roserolls Posted Friday at 09:34 PM It all started when my local Borders first got the manga section put in while I was in middle school. It was my first exposure to Japanese pop culture outside of watching Sailor Moon and Pokemon as a kid, and I quickly became obsessed because I LOVED the shoujo manga art. In addition to manga, they also carried English versions of Gothic & Lolita Bible, which I also fell in love with for the fashion and art. I would read mine so many times, the pages would fall out and the spines would wear off. In one of the issues (I think it was the Summer 2008 Flower Issue with the Claire Belton art on the cover) they had a page on the Volks x Baby Super Dollfie event, with photos of SDs wearing lolita fashion. I had never seen such large dolls before, and as a kid that always liked playing with and collecting dolls, these intrigued me deeply. I googled Volks and Super Dollfies and ended up finding photos and ads for Dollfie Dream Moe and Natsuki, and it was love at first sight! Their fashions were perfect and Moe was like everything I had ever wanted in a doll. After seeing the DDs for the first time, I found this forum (back when I think it was still called DollfieDreams) and lurked it and Flickr almost everyday lol. I absolutely loved reading the photo stories and seeing people's new arrivals. Eventually, I was able to save up and buy my DDdy Miko after graduating High School and have been in the hobby ever since! Aw, this trip down memory lane has me feeling all nostalgic now lol. I think I'll put Miko back in her original wig and hang out with her more today.

That's how it went with the first couple/three Issues of ANIMERICA i picked up in 1996 as i was just beginning to ease into Anime Fandom in my Middle-Teens. i also began picking up a smattering of JPN Import Magazines upon Discovering a Comics'/Collectables' Shop withing Driving Distance that Had a decent-sized Backstock of Foreign and Domestic Anime Mags. I Read and Browsed through the English and Japanese Mags i had so often from '96~'06 that i eventually ended up Taping them back together!!! Thespian Posted yesterday at 02:09 AM The year is 2009, I am a middle schooler playing flash dating sim games on DeviantArt. The developer of my favorite flash dating sim series uploads the latest installment in her point-and-click visual novel series involving her figmas. Curious, I open and play it only to be struck by a surprise picture at the end of the most beautiful doll I had ever seen in my life. Manic, possessed, I stumble down the rabbit hole, driven by the need to know who is this doll and how do I get one for myself??? That doll, my friend, is Dollfie Dream Sasara Kusugawa, and she is going to change the course of my life. It would take several more years before I would order my first Dollfie Dream (DD Snow Miku from the original 2015 pre-order project, who moved on during my soft reset in early 2021), and more still before I would bring Sasara into the fold of my family (2025), but DDs have been a near-constant resident in my head from the day I learned of them. DDs by extension also introduced me to the world of resin BJDs, and the two sister hobbies have run parallel as my primary hobbies for many, many years. 1 Kiyomi DDS DDH-06 🧡 Miyuki DDS DDH-06 🧡 Emiko DDS Mariko Summer Festival 🧡 Kanade DDDy DDH-07 🧡 Honoka DD DDH-09 🧡 Priyanka DDS Anthy Himemiya 🧡 Himena DDDy Sasara Kusugawa 🧡 Unnamed DD Sakura Miku Any pronouns are fine
Amapola Posted yesterday at 02:13 AM I always liked dolls since I was a kid and played a lot with them. What brought me to BJDs? I can't really quite say, but they are the closest to an ideal doll that I wanted as a child and I didn't think they would actually exist. I read some media that featured BJDs (wasn't shoujo manga, oddly enough), but didn't know it was based off of real dolls. I one day found a Jun Planning Ai doll at a second hand shop, and I didn't pay much attention to it for some time, but after doing some research on it, I fell into the rabbit hole. Honestly it just kind of took off due to it being the perfect mix of most of my interests and hobbies. Also, I really like dolls.
Dollvari Posted yesterday at 02:14 AM Was looking at the Volks Japan site in the hobby section at figures/ garage kits, and stumbled upon the Dollife Dreams which had been released recently many years ago.
AutumnAfternoon Posted yesterday at 08:56 AM (edited) An anime I love used dolls as a motif(? theme?), and the main character owns a doll that was her mother's (in the first still of the ED here). While I had a little bit of an interest in and appreciation of dolls since 2017~, that whole season prompted a friend of a friend to one day infodump about BJD and recommended Azone 50 dolls or Volks DD/SD to someone new to the hobby. That led to me spending a few hours poking around for what sort of doll I would like, and I eventually fell in love with Amane, and old Azone doll that Amiami had in stock, somehow. I do eventually want a DD sister for her, but I'm yet to have any more concrete ideas beyond that. Edited yesterday at 08:57 AM by AutumnAfternoon
Tiasha Posted 15 hours ago Last year when Alisaie+Alphinaud showed up on the launcher for FF14 I googled them to see if there were any other photos or discussion of them around. That led me to the thread here and then the rest of the forum. I originally had no interest in actually buying one of the dolls but I just kept coming back and finally talked myself into ordering Alisaie at the end of the pre-order period. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and looking through different dolls since then but am still holding out until she arrives to decide if I want to get more or if this is a one-off for my favourite character in a game I love.
