Dollfie Dream Fern (from Frieren at the funeral / Beyond Journeys end)

Fern is here too. Sorry for rubbish photo.

Initial review:

I like her wig. It's maybe the best Volks wig for a while. Her expression is OK but I think they did a better job on Takina. Maybe they were caught between pouty Fern and regular slightly less pouty Fern.

I couldn't quite understand the instructions for wrapping the ribbons around her staff so I'll have a go at that later. They didn't include the white blob in the packaging... it might be sticky tape but who knows.

Her winter outfit looks good. Her hairpiece is nice but it would have been so much better to have had a metallic one. I'm thinking we might have the hairpiece upside down.

Her eyes are a little googly. Like Miku NT.

I put her in white socks. She comes with grey tights but I'm wary of staining, especially after the Ciel disaster. You can't really see her legs anyway.

Her boots are so-so. I don't know if they'll last. They're not often visible in the anime. Maybe I'll get her some better ones.

Also for noob vinyl doll owners I suspect her wig will stain her head... a head cap is advisable. Also I found it really tricky to put her wig on when she was on her own body, due to the new neck design. I head swapped her with Ciel while I fitted her wig.

It's nice to have her but scalper prices... ouch. We will be living on Ram's grass tea for some time to come.

Not sure? Volks never gives out that kind of info, at least as far as I know. 

I did read that the drawing would close on Oct. 3rd. so maybe they're just taking their sweet time? 

(also, that notifications would be "Sequential".. )

Got my emails from Volks that they're being shipped Today! Mine are going thru UPS, with a delivery date of Tomorrow, the 21st.

Just got my e-mails for Frieren and Fern shipment today. delivery is next week.

Mine shipped a few days ago, but once again UPS is saying they haven’t received the package yet. It’s kind of wild how broken things are in terms of shipping companies right now.

You mention this has happened before, do you have an idea of how long it took last time? Volks USA gave an estimate of it arriving today but UPS hasn’t updated since the 17th, so I don’t know if I should expect it within a few days or a few weeks 😭.

It was a few days, and it may be that they handed it to the delivery driver but UPS hasn't processed it. LA is going to have a tough time with packages. It's just frustrating to me, because it shouldn't take 4 or 5 days to get a package from southern CA to northern CA.

I'm having that very same issue.

Frieren has now passed through Goodyear, Arizona, as of just over three hours ago, while Fern is still in Gardena California, since 9:40 last night. 

UPS is being really weird about all of this, truthfully... 

And, on the UPS tracking, they're both listed as being delivered tomorrow.

Pretty sure that's about the same distance from LA that I am.

And they're only traveling to Tucson, too. About 700 or so miles from VolksUSA...

485 miles, at least according to ChatGPT. I’ve done Palm Desert to Tucson, 370 miles, and it’s a pretty easy day’s drive. LA to me is about 340, but LA traffic can make that an 8 hour drive.  

So, both mini-mages finally arrived today. 

Pics are garbage, due to the cell camera, and a not-well-lit kitchen counter. 

 

 

 

Fern immediately shed her cloak, until I have a chance to wash it in either Retaine or Synthrapol to remove any excess dyes. 

Same for their tights, even though they feel like they're nylon/synthetic. (I'm not taking ANY chances!!) 

One cool thing I did like, was Frierens suitcase, it does open, and there were some Halloween novelty bottles I'd found at Michaels a year or so ago, along with some appropriate books I'd ordered from a seller on Etsy. (DisAttic)

That's all for now, I'll do my best to get more pictures in the near future, (with better surroundings!) and hopefully try to make a story or two. 

(Which I'm Way behind of, with all my Kiddos.)

I like how Fern almost has her "pouty" face. I tried some different busts on too, and she looks good with SS & M. I didn't try S.

Fern is great! freiren and her ears are so incredibly finicky. I have to glue or secure the magnets to the inside of the head.

The biggest problem I had was with Fern's staff. It took a mere 10 hours to peel the backing off the double sided tape.
