Hello, new collector here!

I've been into BJDs since I was a child. I became fascinated when I first watched a Youtuber create stages for his dolls and took beautiful photos of them, (Forgive me, I don't remember his name since I was a kid just mindlessly browsing on the Internet). Ever since then, I started looking for BJDS and fell in love when I discovered there were anime BJDs! I loved how beautiful they looked! Even better than my plushies.

But I was only able to look at them from afar since they were so expensive. And I would never expect my parents to even buy me anything close to $300. 

Since I'm in my mid 20s, I wanted to start picking up some new hobbies (being a blue collar worker and bouncing from different jobs can be mentally draining LOL). Scrolling through TikTok I found some blind box BJDs and went down the rabbit hole once again. And my love for BJDs grew once again. I started joining Facebook Groups, Discords, and eventually joined this site when someone from my Discord group mentioned they were from here!

I became a huge fan of Tinyfox! I love how inexpensive they were compared to other dolls, so I started collecting them the most. The Tinyfox Fan Club Discord made it easier for me to find such great deals! Couldn't have got such a big collection without their help! Eventually I caved and bought 2 DOLK collab dolls (Sandra and Mercury Lamp) both were never opened but owned 2nd hand. I currently have one more DOLK on the way and I'm close to completing my 1/4 Tinyfox collection!

All my dolls are proudly displayed and I'm planning to get a doll bag and some outside stands to take some pictures (even thinking of investing in a camera down the line). Luckily, I live in Los Angeles, so finding something scenic would not be too difficult of a task (but would have to be planned days ahead).

So I look forward to posting on here! I might be a bit shy since the internet is scarier than real life for me, but I will get over than fear eventually once I get comfortable 😁. Here's a picture of my collection so far.

Welcome to the board. Your dolls are all very cute, and you sure have a lot already for a "new collector!" I also have the TinyFox Lee and Meiling (panda) dolls, and a handful of 1/6 dolls. I'm always impressed by the quality of the outfits that they come with. I would love to have more, but I had to start limiting myself because I don't have infinite space for them all ;_;.

Yeah, luckily my job pays me well enough to support my hobby. Perks of working as a Custodian LOL! I got a bit carried away since this was a hobby I've been wanting to enter for so long, but luckily my group is always able to find good deals for me 😁. And the quality of the outfits PLUS the adorable faces reeled me in so quick! The fact Tinyfox came out when I just started working makes me wish I found them sooner!

I feel you about the space part, believe it or not I live in a decently sized studio apartment. So I'm about to slow down soon. My boyfriend has no problem sharing the space with my dolls though so thats a big relief 🥰.

Being in the LA area, I'd suggest @Sticks-Ara might be able to help you out with meet-ups and getting great photo ops! 

I (and a few of our Ecchizonans) had a wonderful time meeting them and plenty others from here during last years LA Dolpa.

Aw yes! I've been dying to go to meet-ups! But most of the groups I'm in don't live in Southern Cali so it's nice to know that there's a couple of fellow Angelinos here. I also been wanting to go to doll cons as well.

I've been following someone on TikTok for a couple of weeks who's actually in my area, (been too shy to message them though) and they went to an Anime Expo doll meet up this year. I don't like Anime Expo too much, but it be worth going if they're fellow collectors there. 😁😁

There are actually two groups in SoCal that have great doll meetups. The group I’m with is primarily in the OC, but we cover many locations throughout SoCal. 
We had a great time at Anime Expo this year (2 events in one day) and we’re open to anyone who wants to join us again next year. 
 

For now, we’re preparing for a doll meetup at AX Chibi in November, a possible meetup this fall (location to be announced), and our annual Christmas meetup (possible new location). 
Plus the other group is planning a meetup in Little Tokyo in the coming weeks.

A friend told me about this post. We usually do meetups at Little Tokyo at L.A.. Your welcome to join us anytime. We are actually doing a doll meetup at Little Tokyo this coming Saturday 7/26 11am for the Obon festival.

Aw man, I would love to but I work Wednesdays to Saturdays. The only weekend I’m off is Sunday 😭.

We actually goung to have a Doll Meetup to take photos at the Rose Garden in the Exposition Park. We are going to meet at Little Tokyo first and then go to the Rose Garden by taking the Metro Rail. Around 11:30 am this coming Monday August 4. Just throwing it out there.
