Tinkles Dolls

Idk if anyone has ever heard of these, but @Tierparkzone and I found these 1/12 MJD-like artist dolls called Tinkles Dolls at Kaka Planet. They’re by a Chinese company called Tinklesdolls and they came out earlier this year. We’ve been eyeing them for several months now, but were deterred by the steep price tag (7000 yen per doll!).

I told myself I’d order them off Taobao instead, where they’d surely be a more reasonable price, but they’ve been sold out pretty consistently since they released in April. In an attempt to get more info, I started following them on XHS/Rednote, where they revealed that they had no plans for additional production runs and that existing stock is all that’s left of these catgirls 😱

Since Kaka Planet is having its 2-year store opening anniversary this month, I reluctantly shelled out the cash for these two at a moderate discount 💸

The purple one is Luna:

And the pink one is Verdendi:

The packaging is so beautiful. You can tell a lot of care went into the design!

The instructions are in both Chinese and English, and are even specific to each character!

Each doll comes with three face plates, a tail, shoes and accessories. Luna has a sleeping face, a pissy face and a concerned face, while Verdendi has a sleeping face, a content face and a playful face with a tiny tongue sticking out.

These girls are not strung and do not have an internal frame, but do have ball joints. Their bodies are reminiscent of the Nagi dolls and similar action toys. Like ob11, they have little stubs for feet with magnets on the soles that help them snap into their goofy oversized shoes, which also have magnets inside.

As you may have noticed from the instructions, their legs are double-jointed at the hip. Normally the legs can’t move higher than 90 degrees, but pulling them down into the second joint allows you to move them 110 degrees or so.

One thing we really liked about them was their accessories; Luna comes with a knockoff iPad called a Meowpad, while Verdendi comes with a knockoff iPod called a Meowpod 😂

They have little cat decorations appropriately placed on the back:

Here are their clothes. The black and purple ones are Luna’s and the pink and white ones are Verdendi’s.

Luna’s butterfly cape is reversible(?) with an alternate design on the back.

They also come with stands that can connect to each other, extra neck pegs for compatibility with other brands, and six pairs of alternate hands—praying/clasped hands, open hands, gripping hands, royal wave hands, closed fists, and interestingly, the second to last hands differ between right and left; right has a pointing index finger while left is Korean heart hands (index finger and thumb crossed).

And lastly, they both came with these little acrylic keychains of the characters in anime style.

I dressed them up and (unsuccessfully) tried replicating the poses on the box. I guess the stock photos use special prototypes that are more flexible than the actual products, because I couldn’t get them to bend the same way, and the headphones definitely do not fit around Verdendi’s neck like they do on the box. Users on XHS/Rednote were complaining about the neck joint, which I’m guessing was about the headphones not fitting and not being able to tilt the head forward like in the stock photos. You can also see how the printed faceup is not as nice as in the marketing photos.

But despite that, they sure are cute 🥰

Conveniently, there are tiny holes in the back of their clothes through which you can attach their tails.

And I find this hilarious, but the back of the head is separate from the back of the hairpiece, so you could give them a tiny wig or even display them bald if you wanted to 😆

The cherry on top (for me anyway) is that the boxes double as tiny photo studios! The inside is decorated to look like little rooms, with Luna’s being nighttime and Verdendi’s being daytime. I had to take these photos with flash so you can see inside the box, but you get the idea.

I was so impressed with these two that I ended up putting down a deposit for the third one, who is yet to be released. She’s apparently a collaboration with the Chinese vtuber/utaite Akie. Photos of the prototype look pretty good, so I’m looking forward to receiving her and will post again when she arrives.

As for these two catgirls, there was some worrying discussion on XHS/Rednote that the factory that produced these two was not used to making movable dolls and didn’t apply the paint correctly. Supposedly the paint comes off easily in high temperatures/high humidity, so I was really nervous handling them, and have put them away again until the fall, when I plan to coat them with MSC for good measure.

For anyone interested, Amiami is still taking preorders for them. The release date is slated for October 2025, but I’m skeptical of these listings because the company has already said multiple times that the catgirls will not be restocked, so it’s likely that these preorders will be cancelled. Preorder at your own risk ⚠️
