1/6 Imomo Kosovorotka Free Pattern

Recommended Posts

So because I am an insane person I decided it was time to make a traditional shirt for my doll. Since Imomos are a little oddly shaped compared to other 1/6 size dolls there aren't many (free or otherwise) patterns for them so I decided I'll share mine when I make them. I'm not a professional, but I like sewing and want to encourage others to try it out.

I will try my best to list the steps of sewing this, but if I'm not clear, looking up how to make a human sized Kosovorotka will show you more. It can be as plain or elaborate as you wish by using embroidery or ribbons. Even beads, just be aware this is a very small scale pattern so it might get "busy" looking very fast with the more you add. This is a simple pattern but this shouldn't be your first sewing pattern. I made this pattern based on older style patterns for this shirt, which means it includes gussets and side panels. 20260106_154929.jpg.6d70c5a145bb7d341aa6ad55402a7ff8.jpg

One final note here is that I am not very tech savvy, so for now I am going to upload the pattern marked down on basic graph paper. Simply copy down the pattern onto your own graph paper 1 to 1. Each square on the printed graph paper should be 1/4 inch for things to match.

So let's get started!

1. Cut out your pattern and pin the pieces appropriately to you fabric. If your fabric is patterned make sure that the patterns match up.

2. Take your body piece, still folded and cut where the curve is marked. This is creating your neck hole. You may now unfold everything.

2.5 Using a measuring tape measure the neck hole. This is the length of your collar. If you use ribbon cut this length + 1/4 inch. and put it to the side. If you wish to sew a collar like I have, mark down the length on the graph paper + 1/4 inch. Then add another 1/4 to height, cut the pattern piece, and then the material.

3. Sew one gusset to one side part along the long side of the side piece, right sides facing each other. You will have a half of a T shape. Repeat this step with another side piece and gusset, but opposite, this is going to eventually be part of your other sleeve, if it is the same as the other T it wont work.

4. Pin one of your sleeve pieces to the top of you new half T piece right sides facing each other. The sleeve should be sitting on top of the half T. If you pinned things correctly it will now look like a right angle with a tiny square between them. Repeat this with the second T shape and the second sleeve, again make sure it is a mirror of the other piece you just made.

5. Now pin and sew the other side piece to the opposite side of your sleeve. Repeat to the other sleeve.

6. Pin both of these joined sleeve pieces to the long sides of the body piece, right sides facing each other. Your shirt is starting to look very shirt like here.

6.5. If you are intending to embroidery/ribbons on the edges of the shirt, shirt front, and sleeves do it now. If not skip this step.

7. The front piece. If you wish you can use a piece a ribbon for this, if not sew the piece right sides together, but leave one of the sides open so you can turn it inside out. Once this is done stitch it shut, either with embroidery or a hidden stitch.

8. Pin and sew this front piece to the front of the shirt tucking one of the edges through the neck hole and stitch it in place. This piece can be the center of the shirt or to the side. Look up some examples of Kosovorotka and find a style you like.

9. Take the collar piece, if you're going the ribbon version pin the ribbon in place at the neck so that the right sides of the ribbon is facing the front of the shirt.

If you are sewing the collar, pin and sew it right sides together, leaving one of the sides open you you can tune it inside out. Pin this piece to the neck hole, right side of the collar facing the shirt front. Sew in place.

When you are done you may have some overlap, if you wish install a snap here or a hook and eye. If you do not, carefully trim the collar so that you can sew it into a one piece collar.

9.5. If you wish to add a small bow here at the collar like I have do so now. If you want a braided ribbon, I took some embroidery floss (2 strands for each piece of the ribbon) and braided it.

10. My lord. The gussets. I'm going to attempt to describe how to put these in, but I highly reccomend looking up a video of how to sew sleeve gussets.

Flip your shirt so you are looking at the inside of it. Fold it in half at the shoulders. Fold and pin the sleeves so that the gussets dangle off the sided, looking like little squares. Fold the gusset over to the other side of the sleeve, fitting the free corner of the gusset up and into the sleeve.

Pinch and pin the gusset into the sleeve, sew both sides with the seams facing out towards you. Repeat on the other side. I highly reccomend looking up videos for this because it's odd.

11. Still inside out, sew the sides and sleeves, skipping over where your gussets sit. If you sew over them they won't work.

12. Hem your sleeves and the bottom of your shirt.

And...you're done!

I hope this helps you customizing and sewing, if any of you have questions feel free to ask and I'll try to answer. I'll make more tutorials and patterns as I go here, as Ivan here needs a belt, some pants and a hat. As well as a coat and boots so keep an eye out for more!

This is such a cool project and the end result looks great! I don't have any Imomo dolls, nor much sewing experience, but I'll definitely want to give this a try. I'd love to see your process for the other elements of his outfit so I'm looking forward to your future posts! :)

Thank you so much! I'm working on the pants now, I'll try and take more photos as I go since I did NOT do that with the shirt, which could greatly help people follow along.
