SaraCherie Posted January 14 Decided to make a dedicated thread for this so I don't have to keep making new ones haha. I've got quite a few Dollfie-related projects in the making as of right now. NSFW tag because I like to do body blushing and there will almost certainly be naked dolls in the future. (In fact, I've got an Adyka body mod that I'll do a writeup for in the near future.) here's a photo I took on my potato phone as a doll tax :3. I've been a fan of Genshin Impact since launch so I decided to shell a couple characters from one of my favorite regions, Remuria. I did all of his clothes, faceup, eyes, and hair styling as well. I ended up taking a fair amount of liberties with the design, but I think he still turned out pretty nice. The Byzantine Empire is one of my favorite regions in terms of art and fashion so it was a blast to look for inspiration for this one!

SaraCherie Posted January 14 (edited) I finally got the time to put together some photos for the aforementioned Adyka body. While I like the body overall, a couple of issues I had with the chest piece prevented me from making it the permanent body for any of my dolls, such as the neck circumference and gaps at the armhole. After getting fed up with the wonkyness of the DDDy hip joint I decided to cobble together my modded L-bust piece and the lower half just to see if it would work...and it did! So with that in mind, I ordered another M bust to better fit the character I was going to shell. Compared to the DD and DDDy bodies I have, the biggest difference here is the thickness of the waist and underbust, which is only mostly visible from the side. This does have the plus side of making the DD/SD bras fit better. (Photo of nude bust piece UTC) If you've modded DD busts to fit on the DDDy, this is the same thing but cut higher. The result is something that looks closer to the SmD bust pieces. As the top of the torso is wider you will have to squish the silicone into the bust piece, but after doing that it fits perfectly. There's a slight color difference under certain lighting in person, but it's not noticeable on camera. For the finishing work I cut the vinyl at an inward angle, making it thinner towards the edge. In my opinion it makes the mod look a lot more professional an polished. I'm very happy with the mod and I think if I ever want another DDDy shaped body in the future I'll go for a silicone hip piece. Spoiler Once you slide the bust on the torso comes up a fair amount past the seam, around where my thumb is. This means that gaping is not too much of an issue unless you're doing very exaggerated poses. Edited January 14 by SaraCherie
Pierrot Posted January 15 I love the doll in your original post and think he looks incredible! And I don't know much about mods, so your second post was an interesting read! I'm looking forward to your future posts
SaraCherie Posted April 14 Switched operating systems a while back (both on PC and mobile), got engaged, also started preparing for moving, so for a bit I wasn't logged in on any devices. As far as customizing goes I'll likely still have to pause that until I settle into a new home, but I've got some other creative outlets up my sleeve. Finally remembered to login now that I've got my stuff to a daily-driver worthy state. (Hmm, maybe one day I'll be able to find a way to mix my passion for Linux and Dollfie together...) Here's a full body picture of Boethius as doll tax! I got a nice refurbished Pixel 8 and I'm quite happy with the camera quality of this one, it's definitely an upgrade from my previous phone. I took a walk yesterday with my wife and brought him along for photos. She likes him too so he's graduated from "my son" to "our son" lol
SaraCherie Posted June 5 For those of you that want a way to lock your dolls' hairstyles in place but hate working with gel, as I do, I've found a solution that's pretty inexpensive (at least in the US.) This hairspray is by a Korean brand called Elizavecca. It comes as a liquid in a small spray bottle, so it's easier to control than your average areosol hairspray. I've found I get good results by spraying a bit on my hands and coating the hair with it It dries into a hard cast incredibly fast and smells nice to boot. It also doesn't give the hair a wet look as many high hold gels do 1
GirlWiththeDragoonTattoo Posted June 6 Always love to try different products. I typically use got2b glued hair spray, but I might give this one a go. (As an aside, this is the brand of sunblock sticks I get for my hand tattoos lol. So I'll buy a bottle next time I restock on that.)
SaraCherie Posted June 16 Knitted a vest and tailored the waist of these Volks jeans so they fit nicer. The DDB has relatively curvy hips for a male body, probably to account for the frame? I do have a pattern for a sewn vest in the making. If it turns out nice enough at the toile stage I will probably post it here as there's a lack of tailored DDB patterns out there. I'm also thinking about making some vintage style pants in the near future. Aside from the vest, wig, and eyes everything here is from Volks. The blazer and shirt that come with the schoolgirl set is quite nice. I think Volks actually excels at making tailored garments that look nice despite having to account for a wide range of measurements. I realized I forgot to mention where I got Boethius' wig in the first post. I'm 90% sure it's a custom blend from Leekworld. Since I got it from Denver Doll Emporium I'm not sure if they still sell it on the site, but it's in stock on DDE. The curls it comes with are more like loose waves, so I reset them using foam rollers and steam. It's somewhere in between dark blonde and light brown depending on the lighting. My favorite part about it is it turns golden when I photograph him with flash! I've also been loving the DD option hands. They're sculpted so beautifully that I keep this pair on him full time. When I get another can of MSC I'll probably blush them.
Giragira Posted June 16 Beautiful doll and great work on the vest! That's a lot of work and it obviously payed off.
SaraCherie Posted June 25 I've been up to some pattern drafting as of late. This one is utilizing a princess seam bodice block from FreeSewing, although it's been heavily altered as the fit wasn't as close as I would've liked it to be. If everything goes to plan I will upload a scan of the pattern later today. Its drafted for DDB but it might fit DD(/sister) S and SS busts as well, unfortunately I don't have them on hand to check right now.
SaraCherie Posted June 27 The sheer amount of buttons (16 in total) killed me but its finally done! I'm super happy with how it turned out
SaraCherie Posted Monday at 06:31 PM I was being driven absolutely insane by the DDDy's hip problem once again so I decided I was going to sit down and find a solution to my woes This one uses hot glue, with a layer of cotton batting to shield the skeleton from the glue incase things get too hot somehow and it melts. It doesn't fix the issue of the legs being a pain to put in because the thigh shell is so big, but it fixes the issue of the skeleton slipping inwards because there's too much extra space. (Hopefully that made sense.) To make things easier on myself I also opened up the upper thigh hole, although that's also optional. so basically you put a bunch of hot glue in the upper part of the thigh shell, wait until it's mostly solidified and then attach the batting. The thigh skeleton can be inserted with the peg facing toward the front (or back) and then twisted into place once it's fully inserted. The top image is as far back as the skeleton will go into the shell with the mod, which is a massive improvement from stock. Externally there's very little change. The thigh shells may feel a bit loose, but the skeleton itself is secure.
Anna-neko Posted Monday at 09:15 PM so.... its kinda like.... reinventing felting from resin dolls?
SaraCherie Posted Monday at 09:34 PM Yeah.. Its not exactly a new premise but I thought I'd post about it because I know this is something that bothers a lot of people 😅
SaraCherie Posted 8 hours ago Boethius and Euergetia got new eyes, handpainted by yours truly, however when I draw or photograph them together I can't help but think of this meme. (Both DDH-07) I highly recommend making your own. It was a nice way to practice my traditional painting skills without going through the trouble of sealing a head. These were made with a base of polymer clay, painted with acrylics, and then topped with builder gel and topcoat. (I do have UV resin on hand but imo the extra PPE required is not worth it)
