DDH-33 Faceup

Recommended Posts

As a follow up to my previous post about shrinking the DDH-33 head in acetone, I finally took the time to add a faceup!

Because of shrinking the head, the vinyl does have a harder feeling than usual, which made drawing on it slightly different (colored pencils seemed less smooth than usual). Despite that, it wasn't so big of a difference that I needed to change anything about the normal process other than being more careful with my lines.

I didn't get many pictures of the process because it was so dark outside, but here are a few I took throughout the night.

The chain was an absolute nightmare to put in...don't ask why I decided to drill holes into the lips and shove metal in it ^^; I added the lip piercing after completing the faceup because I wouldn't be able to paint under it if I put it first, but putting it after meant I scratched off parts of the mouth anyway while trying to shove the metal into the tiny holes. A smarter person would probably just glue it on instead, but I somehow always have issues with glue and things actually staying ^^;

It was also harder to drill the holes for the piercings through the vinyl because of it being less soft than usual, but again not so hard that it was too difficult to do.

Now for some pictures of the final result with eyes during the day!

Overall, I had a lot of fun trying to make a different look than my usual dolls, and I'm happy with how everything turned out despite the challenges!

She turned out gorgeous! I love the tiny pop of blue in the earring, it really complements the subtle blue in her eye makeup.

  • Thanks 1

Metal is stupid-hard to get to stick with glue; it takes a ton, vinyl is squishy and may dislodge it anyway, and on top of that, you need a glue that is also safe to use on the vinyl. Considering that this is a standard head, I see no reason why permanently modding her to get your desired look wasn't a good choice. As long as you check now and again for potential greening / oxidization staining to the vinyl, this was overall the more stable option. And who could argue with these end results? You shrunk her beautifully on the first go, you made clean, smooth incisions, and the final faceup brings her all together for an edgier, crisp look. She's stunning! Alt Dollfies are one of my favorite aesthetics, and I wish they were more popular here in the US. Her piercings add so much character, and that lip chain is a memorable feature that will grab anyone's attention for years to come. Splendid work!

Thank you for the very informative and kind comment! I also wish they were more popular in the US, so I'm glad to hear you also like them >_<

I'm adding pictures of the second DDH-33 head I shrunk, this time a flesh tone head.

Bonus picture of both heads!

If anyone else finishes a faceup on the DDH-33 head, I would love to see what you've created!
