Celluery Posted January 24 (edited) So, I've been after an MDD 2.0 Semi-White Mochi-Ashi style base body to go with a head I ordered elsewhere a couple of months ago. But it's still "awaiting restock" on the Volks Japan website! And since I've seen the regular MDD 2.0 Semi-White base body come back in stock three times in that same time, I've began to wonder if I purchased: MDD (regular) base body MDD L bust MDD Mochi-Ashi lower body part (lower torso) MDD Mochi-Ashi thigh parts Would that create an MDD Mochi-Ashi body? Are there no other differences, internally or elsewhere? Obviously this is more expensive. 45200 yen total instead of the Mochi-Ashi base body standalone at 32000 yen. So I'm not really sure I would want to do this. But if the Mochi-Ashi body keeps staying out of stock, I may have to if I really want it! ohnoaiwa Posted January 24 I think they do technically have the same frame so yea it should work! You could possibly sell the reg mdd parts too to offset the costs. Have you tried looking into secondhand dolls? You might be able to find something on mercari jp, mandarake, other secondhand markets, etc

I may explore some of the other second hand options to see if any of them might have it, that is a good idea, thanks!
baldylox Posted January 24 I'd have to look again but I'm pretty sure both the upper and lower leg vinyl is different on the Mochi Ashi than on the regular MDD. I know for sure that the feet are bigger/wider on the Mochi too. Billy 1 I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
PolitelyNefarious Posted January 25 Between the cost and parts compatibility, if I were you, I would just wait for a secondhand Mochi Ashi 2.0. Have you checked Mandarake, DollyTeria, Yahoo!Japan (via proxy), and Japanese Mercari (also via proxy)? Those are usually go-to places for secondhand Japanese doll shopping outside of Japan, and I know I've seen Mochi Ashi 2.0 pop up on some of them for comparable prices. Requiem Art posted an article comparing bodies, and you can really see the leg differences here: Meanwhile, here is a comparison Jade Pixel did of older MDD versus 2.0, 2.0 being on the right: As you can see, there's not much difference in the leg size between standard MDD f3 and MDD 2.0. In person, MDD 2.0 is slightly skinnier all around. However, the Mochi Ashi legs are noticeably thicker all the way down. You need both the thighs and the calves to make the leg, and while I don't know if it would matter that much, as an owner of F3 Mochi Ashi, I can re-confirm that BaldyLox is correct about the feet. They are chubbier and slightly shorter, to go with the legs. It's a good thought, and in some cases, would definitely work. Volks' parts are usually designed with compatibility in mind, but Mochi Ashi, Pretty, and Dynammite have always been their own things. Incidentally though, 0bsequi0us has a lad, Vodka, whom they put Mochi Ashi calves on. Since the joint is the same, doing the inverse should fit mechanically; I don't imagine there are that many differences between the different 2.0s, versus the older bodies 0bsequi0us used. But aesthetically the combo might be off. Ultimately the choice is up to you. If you want to get experimental with aesthetics, then mixing parts might yield interesting results. But if you just want that nice, curvy silhouette, you'll need all the Mochi Ashi parts, including the ones they don't sell separately. 3
Celluery Posted January 25 Thanks for the info! Yeah, certainly looks like waiting for stock or going second hand is the way to go then. I'll certainly check out some of those second hand store options if it doesn't come back in stock on Volks soon.
ohnoaiwa Posted January 25 hoping they come back in stock for you soon! ik the wait can be unbearble 🤞 it took me awhile to get my mochi ashi too bc they kept selling out! They do restock regularly though iirc I also posted a few iso/wtb posts around on socials when I was looking for a reg mdd and volks never seemed to have any in stock at the time, but eventually got one second hand 😂
