BriaryBits Posted Tuesday at 10:50 PM Hello, I was wondering if anyone else here with chemical sensitivities (or even just a really sensitive nose) could tell me if new Dollfie Dream dolls have a strong smell to them. I'm trying to decide which doll brand is right and safe for my first bigger doll and I'm trying to avoid spending $500+ on something that ends up making me ill or needing to air out for months. So, here I am asking the experts for some help! For reference, btw, I was fine with a new Tinyfox 1/6 doll right out of the box.
sunlightandtea Posted Tuesday at 11:29 PM I don't remember them having a smell to be honest, unless you stick your face right up to the vinyl.
ohnoaiwa Posted Wednesday at 12:30 AM I have a sensitive nose and there was a bit of a smell to them iirc, but if you opened a tinyfox just fine you should be good! any smell that is there dissipates pretty quickly in my experience
Gallye Posted Wednesday at 07:37 PM In my experience vinyl dolls (like Dollfie Dream, Azone, etc.) don't have much of a smell even brand-new out of the box. Resin dolls, however, smell very strongly at first and it can take several days for the smell to fade. In other words, you should be all right with Dollfie Dreams, but avoid Super Dollfies and the like. If it has an interior plastic skeleton and a vinyl shell, you're good. If it's strung with elastic and cast from resin, you might have an issue.
GirlWiththeDragoonTattoo Posted Wednesday at 09:22 PM I have asthma and MCAS so I'm SUPER sensitive to smells and chemicals. Can confirm that even brand new Dollfie Dreams have not given me issues. I didn't notice much, if any, smell. I also agree that resin dolls are more likely to have a strong smell out of the box. Nothing that has sent me into an attack but enough to make me sneeze and my throat itch. But it does fade very quickly. Within a day or so. I have found that either opening dolls in a large room, or having a fan on does help in the case of strong smells. Hope that helps
