it was the latest Sion head! I’m exaggerating just a bit, but usually their heads go for around $400. And they released two heads this past week and the other one went for $477 but the one I wanted ended up like $1100 before I just gave up 😭

Easier said than done! Unfortunately for me, the heads I like are all the ones that end up going crazy in bid wars (I guess my tastes are not unique at all lol). My budget keeps creeping up after each auction I lose out on (or I don’t bid bc it’s out of budget only to regret it so much later).

It's always like that sadly. >.< i remember talk wanting one then the price eventually going to 100k. I say that but it was the whole set (body,  face, clothes). I just wanted the faceup.

Yeah, the prices can get intense. Since the girl I got was a bit pricey, i’ve been attempting to go after less sought after artists for the head for my boy. But whenever I try, suddenly people are willing to bid like crazy even though those artists’ heads have never gone that high before 😭

Congrats on your Sealand head!! I remember seeing that auction! I'm in the same boat, for the past couple weeks I've been actively checking Y!J auctions for custom heads and I even started using twitter again just to follow doll artists and keep an eye on auctions too. It's been crazy watching how high some of them go! It's also interesting because I feel like I can never predict which ones will skyrocket in price, outside of the really popular artists.

 

I wasn't looking for a boy doll, but I ended up falling in love with a head from a small artist (I think it was like the 4th or 5th head they'd ever listed. I put in a bid early just to get a feel if anyone else would bid and after almost a week wait, I got up at 4am for the last 20 mins of the auction which ended up going for another 30 mins from the additional bids. I was successful but omg it was stressful! I can't imagine the last minutes of a really popular listing.

I'd probably shouldn't keep looking lol, but I love window shopping and have a tentative eye on some cute girls that aren't too crazily priced, though they do have quite a few watchers, so I'm worried something insane might happen at the end >< fingers crossed lol

Thank you! Yeah, that’s the thing, no matter what, anything crazy can happen in the last few minutes of an auction. Congrats on winning a head though! It’s such a good feeling to be successful!

Update!

In the last update, I had lost an auction of a boy I thought would be a good fit and I was pretty upset. Well, the next week I saw another boy who I liked a lot too! And…I lost that auction as well 😭

Generally speaking, I decide in advance how much money I am willing to spend on a particular head and then I don’t go past that no matter what. It prevents me from getting caught up in bidding wars and spending more than I’m comfortable with. So this was yet another head that went above $1000 (even though, again, this artists’ heads usually don’t go for that high 😭)

And then the next two weeks, I just didn’t see any boys that I liked, so the search for that isn’t going so well.

HOWEVER! Something else happened. One of my favorite artists typically only posts heads suitable for SW MDD bodies. Since I already got a head for my SW MDD, I figured I wouldn’t be able to get a doll from them any time soon.

And then lo and behold they posted a tan full doll on the DDP body. Well. I fell in love immediately and was determined I had to have her. I tracked her all week and ended up in a bidding war in the final few minutes but I managed to secure her (and staying within my pre-set limit for her).

So there’s been wins and losses in the YJA journey so far. I still have a headless DDB body, but that is just gonna have to be on the back burner with this recent purchase. Hopefully nothing super up my alley gets posted any time soon (maybe I should avoid looking as much as I can >.<)

Anyway, here she is! (pics by the artist 3kaku4kakuu). I had already been buying things for her before I secured her (I must be crazy) so she’s gonna end up super spoiled. Although I know the DDP body isn’t the easiest to dress.

Definitely annoying though for the heads’ auctions you lost, YJA bidders seem to have lost their collective mind when it comes to DDH for some reason as of now!

Thank you so much! The “done with life” expression is one of my favorites to have on a doll, lol, that’s part of the reason I fell for her so quickly. 

Also, yes! Everyone suddenly has the deepest pockets ever! I would say 3kaku4kakuu is a moderately popular artist, but still, their stuff doesn’t usually go for thaaaaaat much and I was so close to my limit before this person gave up. 

I can’t wait til she gets here! I bought several wigs to try for her already!
