OwlishBree Posted Saturday at 09:50 PM Would love to see photos of people's (unaltered) Karins! I'm considering purchasing DDS Karin as my first 1/3 doll, BUT I don't really like how dark and extreme her factory face-up eye paint under her eyes looks in her promo photos. I've seen an unboxing video and Googled some photos where it didn't look like that at all, though. If she were to arrive with lower eye liner that's too dark, do you think I can remove a bit of it with a magic eraser or something without damaging her? OwlishBree Posted 20 hours ago Sorry, nevermind! I just saw on the Volks site that Karin doesn't come with the 2.0 body. :_:

The older DDS-f3 is perfectly fine and robust already, albeit with a bit more limited posing range in the hips and neck. In my opinion the DDS-f3's body line also looks a bit cuter and more charming than the new DDS 2.0's (which is mostly based on the base DD 2.0 shell, except for the legs). When shopping around, just be aware that an older version of Karin on the original DDS (DDS III) body is also available. While the DDS III generation is generally not too bad either, that frame has the tendency to develop cracks in the shoulder and hip joints eventually. And while there are mitigations & replacements available on the aftermarket, that's probably not something you want to deal with right after getting into DDs... 10 hours ago, OwlishBree said: [...] BUT I don't really like how dark and extreme her factory face-up eye paint under her eyes looks in her promo photos. I'll dig out a few photos of my Karin to post here shortly, those will hopefully help to make up your mind. 10 hours ago, OwlishBree said: do you think I can remove a bit of it with a magic eraser or something without damaging her? I don't have much experience with altering factory faceups, but I don't think you'd be able to get consistent results by removing "a bit" of the paint under her eyes. You'd have to clean up the entire area (possibly with acetone) and be precise enough not to damage other parts of the faceup. Unless you're an absolute ace at doing doll faceups, I'd recommend against it. - Maybe someone else with more painting experience can chime in regarding this, too. 1 Photo Story - Photo Thread - make your own signature like this
Celluery Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Okay, I'm totally biased here since I've only had one Dollfie so far, and she's a DDS Karin. But I wouldn't let the older 1.0 DDS body put you off if you otherwise like her. It's a perfectly good body and might even be nicer looking than the new one in some ways, given how it seems they changed the 2.0 to basically be a DD with short legs instead of having fully unique proportions. Here's a few pictures of my girl that might help you decide (and I'm just happy to share pictures anyway, haha). Though my pictures are outdoors, so that may make her face appear darker with the surrounding brightness affecting camera exposure and all (and I'm certainly no photography professional). I'll also add that I just took a look at her page on the Volks JP store website, and I'd say the photos are pretty accurate to how she looks. Okay, I've put a few photos of my Karin "Eunie" up in my photo thread: Here's also a close-up of the face, including the detailing below the eye that I assume you are worrying about: Note that this photo is taken slightly from above, showing the entire detailing. Depending on the angle you're looking at her, this shows up more ore less. I wouldn't say it's overly dark, but it may appear darker in some photos, depending on the lighting. Thank you for your reply and good point! I wouldn’t say I’m in love with Karin (but she is adorable) I was mostly trying to find a DDS available on the US site that I like. And starting out totally new with these dolls, I do think I’d like to get the current 2.0 DDS body simply because it is the new standard and so similar to the DD one which seems like it would make sharing clothing easier? Perhaps I’m incorrect, though, this is all so new to me! 🙂

I’m probably over-thinking this whole thing with her eye make-up, but I feel like if I jump in and spend this much, I really want to make sure that I make the right decision for my first doll.
