Wig Styling: Hair Vents ?

Recommended Posts

sunlightandtea

So I have a new wig from dollsnshop that's kind of similar to the one pictured, bangs then longer, and I would like to add hair vents to it like seen below (lovely photo by dollmoondesign), how is this accomplished? I have another wig I can do heat tests on, but what tools are used to accomplish this? Or is this done to the weft before it's attached to the headcap?

Love to hear your thoughts! Also, this pic is not using any kind of wax fyi. I have another dollmoondesign wig with hair vents and it's essentially like, a crimp in the weft, but its so darn tiny I have no idea how it was done.

You can accomplish something like that using a hair straightener! I haven't mastered it myself (Getting the "vents" symmetrical is harder than it looks lol) but the key for me has been using the hair straightener to heat up the hair and then hold it (either with your fingers or a tool... I use my fingers but it's quite hot 🥲) in the right shape while it cools.

It also seems pretty crucial that the base wig has a center part with bangs (so sort of a T shaped part if that makes any sense)

Oh my gosh!! That makes perfect sense, thank you!! I bet if I had one of those special hairdresser combs with the metal separator tool that could do it. And that's perfect too, it is a T shaped part!

Thank you!!!!  ⸜(*ˊᗜˋ*)⸝

People have posted the process on Twitter (and probably Rednote too), and as mentioned above, you have to heat up the hair and hold it in shape. The videos I’ve seen use a pencil or pen to hold the shape, which is probably easier than using your fingers 😅

You can try looking for tutorials with people size cosplay wigs as well. A lot of characters have this style so there is a bunch of tutorials on it ranging from super simple with the flat iron to "you cannot ever change this hair." (just ignore any crimping, I don't know why that's the "in" thing to do these days, you absolutely do not need it and it looks bad imo)
