Doll Handedness

Recommended Posts

Tierparkzone

As someone who's left-handed, handedness is an integral part for me when coming up with my dolls' characters: Most of my crew are right-handed, but I've got a few lefties and an ambidextrous character among them.

There's a few clues in many of my photos that should give away who's left-handed. Feel free to guess. 😝

In my experience, right-handed people tend to ponder less about handedness (as the environment mostly optimized for right-handed use doesn't force them to). But I'm still curious if that is a thing you consider for character creation.

So, do you have any left handed dolls? If so, are you left handed yourself?
Is this a thing you've never thought about before?
Do you actually take your doll's handedness into account when posing them?

I've had two long-running story lines in my doll hobby history.  One had a left-handed character and the other an ambidextrous character.  Yes I took handedness into account when posing the characters.

I'm right handed, but due to disability am very aware of body position and accommodation / adaptation in general.

I don't actually thing about it lol. I should tho, since some of my dolls are based on anime characters and such. I think the only one I truly make sure of is Link (one of my resins) because Link is left-handed only and forever in my mind. Otherwise I'm typically more worried about the pose I want to think about it. That being said tho, a lot of times I end up doing things with my dolls' left hands more simply because I am actually right handed and I just mess with the hand closest to my dominant hand rather than reaching across for the doll's right hand of that makes sense. So maybe that makes a lot of them accidentally lefties.

I do also sometimes get confused about right/left due to dyscalcula and I'm not sure if that factors into this as well? Hm.
