diamond file and other mod tool brand recommendations?

Recommended Posts

i'm looking into modding some heads (opening eyes to start) and looking through the needed items i've got sandpaper of various grits, diamond files, and exacto knives, and i was wondering what everyone here prefers to use for their mods. i've used sandpaper and exacto knives before, but never diamond files, so i was wondering if there was anything i needed to know going in.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Project-Source-6-Piece-Needle-File-Set/4777067 i was looking at these but i don't know if they're too coarse or whatnot, it's a bit hard to get an idea of what they actually are when their grit is just listed as "coarse" lmao.

thanks for any help in advance.  😆

Those look bigger and coarser than the needle files I use - I picked mine up at a local hobby/modelkit shop. If you don't have a local hobby shop, maybe check Michael's if there's one nearby.

@jadepixel there's a hobby place just barely within 20 miles of me so that might be an option, but i'll have to compare their prices to places online.... blick has a handful of files too.  the place has regular files and "mini" files, but i'm really not sure if they mean the overall length of the file or the rough part of the tool itself being smaller and more able to navigate sculpting maneuvers. 🤔

i wish michael's was an option but the one nearby has basically been hollowed out.... 90% of the time i can't find super basic stuff like mechanical pencils and pens there 🥲  idk if it's like that everywhere or if it's just my store though 😭
