COME4FREE Bonnie Bunny

I talked about this a bit in the waiting room, but back in mid-April I ordered some Bonnie Bunny dolls. After an excruciating wait, they finally arrived a couple of days ago, so I’m going to talk about them here.

What is Bonnie Bunny? It’s a blindbox series by COME4FREE (C4F), a spin-off company of figure maker COME4ARTS.

I’m not usually into the anthropomorphic look so the older generations didn’t really appeal to me, but the latest version (Bonnie 6: Bonnie's Dream of Toy Box) is all the rage in Japan now after someone tweeted photos of a Bonnie 6 doll next to 1/6 TinyFox doll.

These new Bonnie 6 dolls (lovingly nicknamed “Bonibani”) have chubby little 1/8 sized bodies, making them the perfectly sized sibling to TF.

I picked up three off Taobao for a decent price, but as soon as I took them out of their boxes I just knew I’d be getting more.

For now, please enjoy this unboxing of Puff, Teya and the eponymous Bonnie.

IMG_1169

Here is the outer box. This generation has a funhouse/Alice in Wonderland theme going on.

IMG_1170

Here is the side of the box with all possible character draws (including the secret hidden character, who is normally not visible like this).

Spoiler

IMG_1171

Meet Puff (帕芙) the patchwork bear. This is one of the most popular characters of this gen.

IMG_1172

Here is Teya (特娅) the teapot. She’s also extremely popular.

IMG_1173

And here is Bonnie (邦倪) the gachapon herself. Interestingly, she’s not that popular despite being the namesake of the series. I guess it’s because of the purple eyebrows and eyelashes, which limit how much she can be customized, but I think her little smile is adorable.

Above are pictures of the dolls and everything they come with, which I've spoilered for nudity and also because the photos are huge.

IMG_1175 IMG_1176

All of the dolls are proper strung BJDs, and come with extra hand parts, bunny paws, shoes, clothes, an instruction manual, an illustration of the character, a quality assurance certificate and desiccant (not pictured), as well as a headpiece with bunny ears. I guess despite the theme, at the end of the day, they’re still meant to be bunnies…

I haven’t opened the shoes or hand parts since I’m still not sure how I’m going to store these yet, but I did have them try on some clothes I had on hand.

IMG_1181

A lot of people on JP doll Twitter are complaining that not much fits, and what does fits inconsistently, but I’m happy to report that Kikipop clothing seems to fit perfectly (luckily for me since I don’t own a Kikipop doll and only bought these outfits for TinyFox, which was hit or miss a lot of the time…).

Shoes are another story… Their feet are so small yet wide that not much seems to fit. Luckily they came with shoes that are quite versatile and work with many outfits, and Kaka Planet was selling the unpainted shoes that came with the all-in bundle for these dolls, so I have three additional pairs of white shoes for these girls (not pictured).

IMG_1185 IMG_1184 IMG_1183

All in all, I’m really happy with these. They’re sturdy and have a hefty weight to them so they can stand on their own. Unfortunately—like a lot of dolls with molded hair—they’re a bit top-heavy, so you have to play around with them to find their center of gravity, which means they often end up standing tilted slightly forward or backward.

It is possible to put 5 or 6-7 inch wigs on these dolls if you have a headpiece. Sadly, the headpieces were bonuses for the all-in bundle, and were only available for sale in limited quantities, so there aren’t many to go around. Some people have designed their own (either 3D printed or using putty), but I’m hoping they make a comeback someday.

And if you’re sensitive to smells, watch out, because these guys had a strong chemical stench to them when I first took them out of their boxes (airing them out seems to have fixed it!).

But they’re super cute and really well made, so I’m super happy with this purchase (and may have made additional purchases that I will post about another day…)!

Yay! One of us! 😂

Most places sell them blind, but you can find them open box on Taobao for a good price, or on AliExpress for an okay price.

If you think you might want all of them after all, it’s better to just order a box of 6 and then get whoever you’re missing separately. I really wish I’d just done that from the start…

In my excitement for Bonnie 6, I also had a look at the older Bonnie series and ended up picking up the secret hidden character from Bonnie 5: Sweets Kindergarten for a good price.

IMG_1145

As the name implies, these guys are supposed to be dessert-themed baby animals.

IMG_1146

We have a blueberry bunny, a milk cow, an ice cream wolf, a cheese mouse, a roll cake(?) cat, a strawberry dog, and the secret hidden character is a pudding bird.

*Not sure about the roll cake cat—her ears look like naruto, but that’s not a dessert. Then again, neither is cheese 🤷‍♀️

Spoiler

IMG_1160

Meet Jiujiu (啾啾). Her name means something like “chirpy”.

IMG_1159

This is all the stuff she comes with.

Click the spoiler above for pics of naked doll and accessories.

IMG_1162 IMG_1163

Like the Bonnie 6 dolls, she’s a proper strung BJD.

IMG_1164

Jiujiu is 4 years old according to her student ID 😅

IMG_1165

Here is her school uniform.

IMG_1166

Hand parts.

IMG_1167

Pudding (upside down), shoes, and magnetic plate (her feet have magnets in them but are supposedly too weak to work with shoes on).

IMG_1168

Pudding (right side up) and pacifiers… because kindergarteners still use pacifiers I guess? 🤷‍♀️

Spoiler

IMG_1177

These guys are half the size of the Bonnie 6 dolls.

Click above for comparison of naked dolls.

IMG_1179

I got her a little angel outfit to compliment the angel wings on her head. I think this dress was meant for Bonnie 1 and 2 dolls, but this body is small enough to wear it.

IMG_1242

A lucky find at a local doll store here! These heads were preorder bonuses, and I never expected to get them since I didn’t preorder and they seemed quite rare on the aftermarket. I guess this store preorders a lot of complete sets because they had a lot of them and were practically giving them away (not just for this series but for all blindboxes they carry). They came with pacifiers that are different from the ones the doll came with.

See the spoiler tag for photo spam:

Spoiler

Sleepy face (with and without pacifier)

IMG_1233 IMG_1234

Aggravated face (with and without pacifier)

IMG_1235 IMG_1236

Mischievous face (with and without pacifier)

IMG_1237 IMG_1238

Normal face with back of head accessory (with and without pacifier)

IMG_1241

With a 5 inch wig that is a bit too big for her…

IMG_1239

Interestingly, the back of head accessory has a bunny shape inside it 😃

That’s all for now. I’ll update again when the other Bonnies get here.

Come4free was selling unpainted faces on their Taobao shop a couple of weeks ago, but I don’t think they ever made extra painted faces for the Bonnie 6 girls.

Gotcha.  Ah well.  The faces they have are cute.  And it kind of makes sense for a maybe slightly spoilt baby sister to have a lot of expressions.

Behold the long-awaited update! This one's a big one, so buckle up.

First thing's first—I had been calling the Bonnie 6 dolls the Rabbit Dream Box series because that's what the Chinese name (兔兔梦匣) literally translates to, but shortly after my post on the Sweets Kindergarten series, I realized the actual name—Bonnie's Dream of Toy Box—was written on the back in plain English! This is the name Kika Goods uses, so for ease of reference (in case anyone is influenced to buy these hehe) I've gone back and changed my older posts.

Next, I had originally planned to make posts for these dolls as they arrived, but two of them were stuck in customs inspections for two weeks, one of which was the secret hidden character. Since she cost more than the other three combined and was the one I was most excited for, I really could not relax from the time they were seized for inspection until they were finally released. On top of that, I had a bad feeling that something would get broken or lost during the inspection, and lo and behold, it seems the hidden character was the one to be inspected and, as expected, her extra hand parts were missing when she finally arrived…

Thankfully the store I bought her from was willing to get a replacement from C4F, which I'm still waiting on, but of all the things to go missing, I suppose the hand parts are the least valuable for reasons I'll get into later. For now, enjoy these pictures of the remaining dolls!

IMG_1890

Here are the remaining three normal dolls. If you're new to blindboxes and the culture around them, some models are considered 'hot' and others are considered 'cold'. 'Hot' models are the popular ones people will try to pull blind or pay a premium for open box, while 'cold' ones are considered to be the crappy pulls nobody wants. In the case of this series, Puff, Teya and Tilly (the secret hidden character) are the hot pulls, while these three and Bonnie herself are considered the cold pulls. While I can admit that these three are not quite as cute as the previous three I reported on, I still think they're super cute and I'm happy to welcome them into my doll family 🥰

You can see everything they come with under the spoiler tag below.

Spoiler

IMG_1865

Here we have Yata (娅塔) the telephone. Her bonnet has little numbers on it, like an alarm clock or old-fashioned rotary phone, and her dress has tiny rabbit silhouettes on it. The bow in the back can be attached with a clip.

IMG_1866

Meet Isil (伊西尔) the March Hare. Her name can also be romanized as Yixier, but Isil appears to be the intended romanization. She has one red eye and one yellow eye, and comes with a black wand that doubles as a stick to hold the rabbit mask. The rabbit mask is magnetic and can sit on her head by itself. Her little pinstripe outfit is so snazzy.

IMG_1867

And here is Lancy (兰希) the jack-in-the-box, also known as Lanxi. One eye has a cross stitch in it and idk if I like it. This one's design is all over the place and not as cohesive as the others, but I must say I find the evil bunny design on her shirt pretty hilarious.

In addition to the secret hidden character, I also picked up the hanging card. For those of you unfamiliar with blindbox culture, a hanging card is a standalone model, usually a remixed version of another model with unique features (hair, eyes, makeup, and clothes). They're released in limited quantities and sometimes cost a bit more, but you always know what you're getting instead of taking a gamble.

IMG_1926

Tilly (the secret hidden character) is on the left and Blanche (the hanging card) is on the right. Check the spoiler tag below for more commentary.

Spoiler

IMG_1868

Tilly (蒂莉) is the funhouse itself and oversees the others characters. She has heterochromia and a unique face mold (no other character in this series uses this face mold). She also comes with extra accessories, namely a golden key staff and an eye patch. Unfortunately her hand parts were confiscated in the customs inspection, but she is supposed to come with the same hand parts as Yata.

IMG_1872

Blanche (布兰琦) is a ghost(?). She comes dressed, but also has an extra cape, rabbit headband and socks, and comes with a silver key staff. She also comes with ALL of the extra hand parts that the other dolls come with, so although I was upset about Tilly's missing hands, in the end there's more than enough to go around. Unexpectedly, she also came with a back of head accessory! These were practically impossible to get at one point so I was really stoked to have gotten one for free.

Blanche also came in a special box with a window you can use to display her in. I'm also going to spoiler these because they're huge.

Spoiler

IMG_1869

Front

IMG_1870

Side with her backstory if you can read Chinese. According to Grok, it says:

Ever since she was swept away by a magical power, Blanche felt like she had a very long dream. The first thing she saw when she woke up was Tilly’s face full of guilt. She wanted to tell her it was okay. She reached out her hands to hug her, but she was shocked to find that her hands passed straight through Tilly’s body… She had turned into a little ghost!

IMG_1871

The box has a front panel that opens up to the window, which they've cleverly added magnets to so it snaps shut when you close it.

Since Blanche comes with all available hand parts, I took a picture so you can see them all:

IMG_1873

There are seven hand parts and two feet parts. All dolls come with the hands on the right (open hands, gripping hands and paws), both pairs of feet, a plastic washer and one pair of semi-unique hands on the left—Puff and Isil come with the pointing hands, Teya comes with the closed fist, Yata and Tilly come with the overlapping hands, and Lancy comes with the peace sign hands. Interestingly, the paws for all dolls are flesh-coloured, except for Puff, who comes with white paws for some reason…

IMG_1897

Tilly and Blanche came with these key staffs (gold and silver respectively), which I guess goes with the whole funhouse/Alice in Wonderland theme.

IMG_1898

Blanche came with this back of head accessory. These were originally a preorder bonus for the all-in fullset so there weren't many of them to go around. Unlike the Bonnie 5 back of head accessory, this one does not have a bunny shape inside it 😢

I mentioned this in my opening post, but these dolls have seriously taken off in Japan because some Twitter users were spamming pics of them in wigs next to TinyFox dolls. Everyone and their dog wants these dolls and the back of head accessory, which were being scalped for insane prices on Mercari. At one point, this tiny accessory alone was going for 10,000 yen!!! 😱

Thankfully, C4F flooded the market with surplus stock last month and prices have come down a lot, but there's still not enough supply to meet demand. I bought a bunch on Taobao for the rest of my dolls, but my warehouse refused the package for copyright infringement(?!) and returned them to the seller, so no accessories for me I guess… 😭

Interestingly, C4F is selling these in different skin tones—super white, flesh, and tan—despite these dolls only being available in super white skin, which makes me think they have different skin colours planned for the second generation of this series. I'm super excited to see what they have up their sleeve!

So on that note, here are pictures of Blanche actually using the back of head accessory:

And to finish glazing Blanche, here is a comparison of all the different parts that were repurposed from other dolls:

IMG_1930

As mentioned earlier, hanging cards are usually remixed versions of other dolls in the series. You may have noticed that she has the same face, hat and shoes as Teya, and also has Bonnie's bangs and Yata's twin drills.

IMG_1929

For funsies, I put the bangs and twin drills on Teya too:

IMG_1931

And here is some unadulterated photo spam of the whole collection, in order based on the numbers on the blisters. I tried to recreate the poses on the packaging while also using the different hand parts they came with. Enjoy!

2. Teya the teapot

5. Lancy the jack-in-the-box

6. Bonnie the gachapon machine

7. Tilly the funhouse

IMG_1928

8. Blanche the ghost

The whole family:

That's all for now, but expect some more updates in the coming days. C4F has started making clothes specifically for this series and I may have ordered a couple… and plan to order more as they become available…
