luna_Lillie Posted May 22 Currently in a dilemma where I have to decide between throwing away or dismantling a DD boxes. Is it possible to dismantle and flatten boxes without damaging them?
SakuraSylph Posted May 22 The traditional yellow boxes are possible to flatten if folded down in the correct direction at the glued seam. The correct way is whatever one doesn't put stress on the glued joint, same as flattening boxes for recycling. Just be careful not to lose the ribbons, bag, or wig box that hold the doll and her accessories if you take them out of the original box. For the larger DD boxes that are slipcases (Miku, et al), it is probably possible to flatten them also with careful disassembly of the inner tray, but I haven't tried to actually do so. Could you avoid the issue by storing them on the top shelf of a closet somewhere, the area above the hanging rod that's useful for only spare boxes because it's so inaccessible without a stepstool? 1 SakuraSylph

That you for the reply! I will have to see if I can figure something out space wise. They're all slipcase boxes, which look like they're technically possible easily to disassemble/flatten, but I wasn't sure😅
Xiongmao Posted May 25 I have flattened all of my boxes. Now they're all stored in a big cardboard box I received from Buyee. So that's around 35 boxes that now live in a box that's 38cm tall. There's plenty of room too - the Xeno guns are in there too and they're huge. Exceptions/odd cases: I've left my SD box because it has padding in it so I've kept as is. Towa's box is not flattened because it's extra special. Frieren and Megumin are slightly larger than the other boxes so I keep them behind shelving. I have all the outer boxes too - they're on shelving in my garage. That makes it much easier to exit the hobby should that ever happen. 1 My Dollfie doll family December 2024 😊. So, if needs be, flattening is fine 🙏 Hopefully I can figure out an alternative though.

If you put your dolls in their OG boxes, then you can use doll clothes and wigs as padding. I also had to resort to flattening boxes, just to make more room in my garage. The big slider boxes do take some extra steps to flatten, but it totally is possible--you kind of unfold it from the inside first, and it just kinda . .. unravels lol. The ones I can't collapse aren't Volks boxes, it's the ones from my 50cm Azone girls. I'm sure they DO come apart, but I'll be damned if i can figure out how. There's some origami nonsense going on there! 1 In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
ThatSubaru86 Posted June 2 I made the decision to just keep the outer part of my doll boxes that have the artwork on them. The inner parts of the boxes I dispose of as I find these to be of poor cardboard quality and they don't break down nicely. I have no intention of ever selling my dolls either.
