Any tips for a tan skin doll face up

Recommended Posts

MyuMyu

Hi! I'm waiting my first tan skinned doll. She's an imomodoll without face up, so I'm planning to do it myself. I have painted light skinned dolls before, I'm not very skilled but it kinda worked.

I remember that some years ago, a friend got a resin tan skin doll and resold her because she wasn't able to get the result she wanted giving her a face up.

Do you have any recommendations to deal with tan skin doll painting?

Thanks in advance!!

This is just what I’ve heard, but I've seen it said that using too many layers of Mr. Super Clear can lead to the head darkening and not matching the body anymore. You could probably learn more on DoA, if you have an account.

I guess it depends on what you want? But for what it's worth, I have never had issues working on tan skin, resin or vinyl. Just don't be too heavy handed when spraying your sealant, and you'll probably be fine. I do also tend to not do too many layers tho. I usually try to get everything done in like maybe 4 layers max, but that's because I'm disabled and I don't like having to get up and go outside to spray too often. It's too energy consuming lol. But it definitely helps minimize any cloudiness or other color change on darker dolls.

I've found that the Imomo tan is still light enough that it doesn't pose too many problems compared to lighter tones!

I guess my tip would be that you probably don't want to use pink pastels for blushing. They just look kind of odd on tan imo. I would instead use a darker red or even a reddish brown, and then just apply it VERY lightly in thin layers to build up redness in the cheeks.

MSC should be fine. The issue some people have is MSC creating a white cast the head as layers build up, but this shouldn't be a problem if you don't go crazy with sealant. I've done 5 - 8 layers on my tan resin dolls without issue.

Choosing faceup colors correctly is important, seconding what obsequious said. If you're familiar with digital art, imagine airbrushing light pink on a multiply layer with brown underneath. The end result will look like dark pink. Real life doesn't have multiply layers, so you need to use the dark pink from the start.

You can also look at real makeup as an example - here's a few blush colors which work well for tan/deep skin tones (ignore the brand names lol):

I couldn't find a good picture of it but I also recommend wine red/burgundy for tan skin faceups.

@Giallo_GattaThanks a lot! I have an account so I will seek for further information!

@GirlWiththeDragoonTattoo Thank you very much! I will try to spray her the less I can!

@0bsequi0us Thank you very much for you help! When she arrives I will be able to see the skin tone. I have googled a lot about tan skin imomos, but haven't seen any in real life yet!

I hadn't thought too much about the colors I would use, so thank you very much for this useful tip!

@meteoriteThank you!! Your explanations and the chart helped me a lot! Reddish tones look beautiful in dark skin.

I have to confess that I tent to use too many layer due to my insecurity, so it relax my to hear that it isnt such a big problem.
