Doll room or everywhere/how to display

I see a lot of people who have doll rooms. A dedicated area to display their dolls and keep all their fashion. 
 

All my rooms are occupied (office, doggos, me lol) and I can’t really dedicate a whole room to them. Currently I sm displaying some in the living room and some in my office. And I wonder if anyone else has their collection spread throughout their home.

I don't have a dedicated room either. I made space for a glass display cabinet in my living room. Other than that, dolls float around my apartment according to my whims. I don't have pets or children to worry about so they end up on tables, chairs, bookcases ect. Clothes and accessories are in easy access boxes that slide under my bed. It isn't a pretty set up like some people have. I also have to rotate who is displayed. I just pretend my dolls are on vacation from having to deal with me when they get packed up. 

I have a few Aunts that collect/collected dolls. Two popular methods I have seen in the past for small spaces are; high shelves lining the wall near the ceiling and wicker baskets on the floor near doorways. The baskets are often dressed up in ribbons and such. Padding, like blankets, added to the inside of the basket for the dolls to sit on.

I have some sitting on my shelf in the living room and a side table. I was thinking of getting more shelves. I do like the rotating idea because I still want to display some in my living room even if they find homes on shelves in my office. I think rotating them out so I feel like they are all getting their spot like moments will be the best.

My dolls sit on a shelf above my desk so I can see them while I work. They make me very happy, so I keep them in the place I spend the most time. 💖

People who have dedicated doll rooms are amazing! ... But I also can't imagine having that many dolls! 🙀 It's so, so cool when people have dioramas and doll houses at scale too.

OMG yes! I wanna make some dioramas that fold up and can be stored easily for photo shoots. I spend most of the time in my living rooms which is why I want some of my dollies out there but also idk…I’m a little embarrassed for when people come over. Maybe I shouldn’t be.

No, I wouldn't be embarrassed at all. I dunno about you but I think it's fun to come over to someone's place and learn about them through their decor, like band posters and action figures and stuff. Tells you a lot about them! 💖  Your dolls are a part of that! 

Altho I have a dedicated doll room, it isn't big enough to hold all of them so they spill out into my bedroom and computer room.  In the bedroom they sit on top of my dressers and I recently had to add an 8 foot shelf above the bed as well.

In the computer room they stay mainly in a doll house made for 18 inch dolls.  There are a few on a small table by the door and a few on my desk as well.

I try to keep them limited to those 3 rooms but with an ever expanding family, it's difficult.  😉

I’m happy to see you found space for your growing collection. Makes me feel a little less guilty about spreading them out. (And maybe getting more…)

I live in a small apartment, so a dedicated Doll Room is a dream too far.  My dolls are on top of some cabinets in a corner of my office, I hung a tiny curtain rod on the wall and change the fabric from season to season.  Everything for my photoshoots has to be modular and collapsible and it all fits in a small cabinet in another corner of my office.  It's like Ikea functionality, things folded into other things, my tabletop is hanging from my closet door, etc.  Clothes are flat in paper trays and stored in drawers at the bottom of my closet.  Photoshoots are done in my living room, so everything has to be able to be set up and then struck as quickly as possible.  I love it all though.

I have a dedicated doll room in my apartment, but I’m not sure if it really qualifies as an actual room. It’s a weird, windowless room that is basically the size of two closets, and I’m not really sure what it’s supposed to be used for. Too big to be a closet, too small to be a room.

I’m pretty sure it legally cannot be classified as a room due to having no windows, but the no windows means it’s great for keeping my dolls in a glass display without worrying about sun damage! 

I don’t have a picture, so you can just image a very tiny room full of random doll props and a single display case and one table for sewing. 

Ideally I’d like to put some dioramas in there, but I don’t know if there’s enough space as it is. 

If I lived elsewhere I’d display my dolls in my bedroom in their glass display and just put a blackout curtain over my window.

I’ve been hording cardboard and craft materials just to make backgrounds for photos shoots. I’m not there yet but I’m glaf it seems to be a more common thing. I feel like in social media I always see the grand and fancy stuff. That’s why I wanted to ask this question for those of us that love our dolls but don’t have a whole area that they are able to dedicate to them.

Oh that looks very neat! Like it blends in with your other decor so the doll don’t stand out as much. Maybe I just need to lean into the weird of my personality more and have it reflect in my home instead of of being an “adult” about everything.

Sun is also a thing I haven’t really thought about about. My living room is pretty sunny. But I do like looking at my dolls. Rotating them out will probably be the best for that. 
 

There’s alway foldable backgrounds that could be space saving!

Thank you!  Sure you do!  This is the wrong place to be if you think we won't try to enable you to get more dolls!  😄

Thanks!  Making room was easy for me thank goodness.  You definitely should not feel guilty about spreading them around.  Having them in different places means you get to see them more!  😉  And yes, you need MOAR DOLLIES!  😄

Living in an RV, I'm sort of forced to have mine spread out all over the place, or keep them boxed up. (really?? Where's the fun in that??)

 

So, the Kiddos get put wherever there's space:

I'll be the first to admit, making room for 42 (!!) is a major challenge! (tbf, 12 are Picco Neemo's, so they are much easier to find a spot for, e.g. sitting in a bigger doll's lap, etc.) 

6 are TinyFox 1/6, so, not much of a challenge there, either. 

I have two of these 'small-ish' computer desks side by side, replacing the original kitchen table, which actually gives me more table space.

Each one has an upper shelf that holds a half-dozen DD's. (plus whatever Lil Fairies I put in their laps!) 

Also, to my side is my counter top for the kitchen, and Tana, Frieren and Fern stand there, criticizing my poor computer skills. 

 

Setting up a 'photobooth' or backdrops is a serious challenge inside, seeing as I only have eight feet at the widest, so my bedroom has to serve:

 

 

The background set is made up of two 24 inch by 24inch panels and includes a few other sheets printed on both sides for variety. 

Easy to find on places like Amazon, etc. 

 

To be honest, you're only going to be limited by your imagination for where you can put your Kiddos! 

 

Most of all...... Have fun!!

Wow 42! It’s nice to see a small space like that have room for displaying. Like you said you have to be creative. I definitely don’t have an excuse since I’m no in an RV. I think if this thread has taught me anything it’s to make my soace my own and if that means there are dolls everywhere, well that’s just how it’s going to be.

I will definitely look on amazon for photography background options. Thanks for sharing!

I live in a 400 sq foot cottage, so space is quite limited. Half of my bedroom is my "doll room".  I'm a big fan of using trifold poster board and Amazon photo backdrops for photoshoots. I hope to finish my reno of the space and share photos soon.

I’f love to see photos once you’re done! Seeing everybody’s spaces covered in dollies is the best thing that’s come out of asking this question, lol

We live in an apartment and they live in the central corridor. It's nice and dark and away from the sun.

Some come into the living room in the evening to watch the TV. One or two will also help me work during the day but they tend to stay away if it's not doll weather (i.e. it's sunny).
