Nelly19 Posted February 27, 2013 I really need some expert advice for modifying unlimited head molds. I am a person who likes certain characteristics, one of them being girls with well endowed lips, maybe because am black? Idk but i freak over some pretty feminine mouths on dolls....you say fetish...i say preference. I enjoy this hobby to no end, its expensive but i take regular breaks to enjoy what I have so i don't go broke craving every cute pricey thing that is released. On that note, i wish to overhaul an unlimited mold to make my next character completely unique. I have decided to create my own dark skinned character thanks to the two miracle workers here on the site. I have to start drawing her features so i can have a clear plan, but before then...I have a few questions. 1. can the mold be changed by additive methods...like polymer clay or something. 2. which type of head mold should i get to achieve the best results...(hard or soft) 3. what tools will i need to modify and build lips, nose and possible ears on whats already there? 4. what color of material will be good to use,if its even possible....considering she will be dyed in any event? I have seen some custom sculpts done, on a topic by danny choo, however the creator charges a lot of money, I also love the sculpts on some of the limited heads, but at 300+ a sculpts, it will cost me as much as the body parts i need and i need to save for school later this year..... that being said to assist those who attempt these questions, I am using an MDD body as the base body not a DDdy like Mali. There is another side to this unique character i will reveal later when I finish researching some things..... So there you have it, big plans.....little information....alot of questions....few found answers....and no idea were to start. Thanks for the help guys. juu-yuki Posted February 27, 2013 1. Yes. 2. Soft. 3. Whatever tool you want. That is up to personal preference. 4. You can't get an even dye if you are adding to the vinyl with a completely different material. You will need to use the same vinyl itself if you want to use dyes. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com

shinegamix Posted February 27, 2013 basically it cant be done cause each batch has little differences within the tolerance values. so you would have to copy the face. make your own mould and then pour the vinyl in your new mould making my triumphant return

Cauldroness Posted February 27, 2013 I think you'd have the same problems with the Obitsu head -- if the lip additions aren't made out of the same material, they won't absorb the dye at the same rate as the rest of the vinyl, and could end up significantly darker or paler than the rest of the head. Perhaps if you dyed the body your preferred color, and then airbrushed the head to match? Then the additions wouldn't need to be dyed, they'd simply be painted the correct color, and there would be no worry about differing absorption rates. I know Requiemart does this when she makes additions to Pullip faces -- sculpts on the additions, and then airbrushes the entire head the correct color, and you can't even tell additions were ever made. I was thinking that actually, it seems so complicated now that i got the details of it, but i do what this original character created...even if i dye the body and leave it headless until this head situation is sorted out. I will keep looking into it, i just wish i could find some videos on similar huge mods Learning that its safe outside my shell too
misskale Posted February 28, 2013 You could always dye the doll, and then color match the added bits with paint or color blending.
Kimochi Posted March 9, 2013 You do not need to dye a doll to get mods to be the same color. You can always paint over it with an airbrush or have a doll artist do it for you.
