Choppi's SD "Rozen Maiden" Completion Quest

Happy New Year, everyone! Please forgive me if this is in the wrong subforum and feel free to move it if it is!

 

Okay, so... I ended up deciding on something a little crazy. But I've never been so excited or motivated about anything in my life, as sad as it sounds!!!

 

So... my 2014 New Years resolution? To get all the SD Rozen Maidens before the year ends. This is just wishful thinking, mind you, since that's what resolutions are, so it will most likely take me much longer.

 

Now, this is something I never thought could be possible. Not one Rozen Maiden, but all five? My ultimate grail has been and always will be my queen, Suigintou, but one day the thought popped into my head "why stop there?"

 

Thus, my own Alice Game begun. Except it's more... costly. Obviously, this is going to take a lot of time and money. I will (try to) spend my money on nothing else, and I will be selling off everything I possibly can to fund this as well as making major daily life sacrifices. (Ramen, anyone?) Need to save, save, save!!! But I have nine Dollfie Dream projects ongoing as-is, so I might (AKA, will) break the rules with some inbetween expenditures here and there...

 

My order is most likely going to be Hinaichigo, Suigintou, Shinku, Souseiseki, and finally Suiseiseki.

 

I will update this thread when each member of the family has been located and secured :') I hope you'll join me along on this journey.

I kinda second the motion as those are going for outrageous prices in YJA, but hey, its like a quest and no one said they're always easy. Half the fun of it is in going through with the thing. Best of luck in your endeavors. I hope you get them all.

Oh man, don't I know it I'm going to avoid buying off of Y!J at all costs because the fees on top of everything would be insane. Even Mandarake seems to overprice them (and they actually sell, so I can't blame them!!) I'm honestly hoping to find them on DoA more than anything, that seems to be my best bet.

 

The odd thing is that I see Shinku pop up a lot (also weird that my grail, Suigintou, pops up the most and is actually... common), but I've never even seen Suiseiseki or Souseiseki. I'm honestly expecting those two to be the trickiest of all!

 

Looks like I'll be having to play the waiting game to get the best "deal"... but hopefully they will come ;v;

 

Also just noting that I currently only have the funds for Hinaichigo. But I'm kind of wondering if I should save up for Suigintou first instead since she's the one I want the most... or maybe even Shinku since she's so limited that it scares me. But Suiseiseki and Souseiseki never seem to pop up, so I don't know if I should nab them first instead... Gah, too many temptations!!!

 

Well, regardless, none of them are currently for sale in a reasonable range, and if I decide against Hinaichigo first, then I'll be able to nab one of the 'seiseki twins in February. We'll just see what pops up when it does!

Unfortunately they just have Suigintou... for 420,000 yen Obviously I won't be buying that one, LOL! But I do check there every day just in case~

 

Also got an update! I went ahead and made WTB posts on DoA searching out Hinaichigo, Suiseiseki, and Souseiseki. Crossing my fingers that one of them ends up having a bite!!! This is honestly my favorite part of all this - the exciting hunt :'D Especially when you're after several things; you don't know what each day will bring and who will pop up!!! (When you're only after one, though, that drives you mad (also known as the torment of finding a MDD Maria previously @___@))

So, I might have just located my Suigintou... If she stays in a reasonable range, I'm going to try to scrape the money from somewhere and make it work... !!!

I put it in Google Translate, and it was very confusing. Can someone who knows Japanese help verify if there's any problems stated with her? If this is a "what you see is what you get" scenario I'll need help verifying if it indeed has everything in her fullset and that she has her default faceup. Maybe a Suigintou owner can help? What do you all think about this auction? Good vibes? Bad?

You do have to be very careful though, recasts and all that... >__<

I have a big update! I decided on something major; to make a custom SD10 Kirakishou (2013 anime ver.) and a custom YoSD Kanaria so I could have not five, but all seven of the Rozen Maidens together. Here is the big part; Kirakishou is nearly completely ordered in the matter of a couple days. I... kind of got too ahead of myself 3

 

Her base doll is a SD10 Nono. I've got her wig, eyes, and boots ordered and all I need to do is commission her clothes & roses, which I can't afford right now but will be able to very soon. I found my artist to commission though, and she's excited to take on the challenge

 

I did a 30 second mockup in paint of what she is going to look like when all the pieces are together, and I couldn't be happier and more excited!!!

One thing that may help you in your quest is that you don't necessarily need the fullsets of these dolls: you could go with {head, body, wig} only if you needed to. Reason being is a Japanese Dolpa dealer called Ondine has made Rozen Maiden outfits in various sizes, and they actually look better than the Volks official clothes IMO. That doesn't happen often (someone outdoing Volks) so it's worth mentioning. You can occasionally find the Ondine clothes on YJA.

 

Ondine didn't make Kirakishou or Kanaria clothes as of Dolpa 29 in May, but they had the other five Rozen dolls in yoSD, MSD, SD10, and SD16 sizes.

 

I just wanted to throw this out there as something for you to think about as you proceed on your quest. You could get the fullset dolls or base dolls only, which broadens the pool of sellers you could ask.

 

Oh, and I remember someone on these forums offering up a Volks Suiseiseki outfit-only for sale a few months ago; don't know if it actually sold. It might be worth digging back through the marketplace for it. As that's another option for you to get a doll separate from the clothes.

 

People on DoA love to split, so I'm not sure how many actual full sets are out there and hence these alternate approaches ^_^;.

These are super inflated prices. Suigintou is regularly around 300k, and sometimes you can get closer to 260k if you get lucky. Going over that price is generally overpaying.

 

Suiseiseki/Souseiseki are actually not that expensive. If you are patient you can build the fullset up for about $1500, maybe the max of $1800. For a while they chilled around $1200 but within the non-Japanese market they have skyrocketed. >:

I actually bought that Suiseiseki on Mandarake in a heartbeat after seeing her Y!JA prices, and am on layaway for Souseiseki I also got Hinaichigo not too long ago, but forgot to update!

Did you buy one that was for $3k on DoA? Did their prices really jump that high out of absolutely no where? (I mean--Volks are volatile so I guess that's possible)

Actually, I don't feel bad at all because the twins' prices are seeming to skyrocket! Suiseiseki just sold for $3000 on DoA and her bidding is going for over $2500 on Y!JA (plus imagine the fees!). Souseiseki also recently sold a couple months ago on DoA for $2500 (she was also heavily yellowed) and I offered lower for the current one on DoA, which I'm currently paying off. Take into account that I'm going solely for ones in new or like new condition, so that's why I'm willing to pay these prices. If I'm shelling this kind of money, I'd rather want them to be perfect than not. Regardless, I'm happy to have gotten the ones that I did~

 

Yes, thankfully Suigintou is the most "common" one of all! I saw that Suigintou auction as well, but unfortunately she just isn't as mint as I'd like her to be and I don't feel comfortable with it. I don't have the funds for her right now regardless, as the twins took it all away, but she'll definitely be next! I'm saving Shinku for last, that's for sure @_@ Anyway, best of luck on getting your Suigintou, too!!!

Strange. I wonder what caused that. I know they don't appear as much but that's also cause more people customize them so finding the fullsets are hard (totally reasonable, I love the mold out of the Volks default XD). Guess someone just happened to bid high and they all followed.

I remember that one. That thing was stupidly priced, and I feel terrible for whoever bought it. TBH, I really disregard the American market, the real market is established by the Japanese so I sort of over look them regularly. :P

It is good, I'm just a fan of saving and getting the best deal. Also means I actually gain money when I sell as I do it regularly, but nonetheless, no my money so I'm just voicing my reaction. XD Congrats either way.

 

Ah, well hopefully you can get a good one. Just avoid like 380k JPY, you can seriously do less than that even in near-mint. (oxidation will get to everything thus nothing can truly be "mint condition" after so many years.) XD Thanks, my luck is terrible though. I'm just gonna go for a different Volks goal for now. :P
