How not to use too much paint?

Recommended Posts

Aoibara

I use the Volks acrylic paint set.

I often realize I use far too much paint whenever I need to mix colors. It is the same with the thinner, which I often drop directly onto the paint (Non of my hard surfaces seem to want to keep the thinner stay as a blob.)

Any advice?

You are worried about wasting paint? You can use another brush to grab a bit of paint at a time, and mix it on a small plate. Or, you can mix in small plastic containers with a resealable lid, and the paint will stay fresh for a couple days if it stays moist. But it's hard to mix the same color twice, so it's always better to have extra paint mixed instead of not enough.

Also, you don't use very much paint to paint dolls in the first place-- despite painting regularly for the past seven years, I'm still using some of my starter paints from Volks. Admittedly, they are running kind of low now, but they're still providing me with enough paint to do my work! I do run out of thinner every few months though, because the ratio for me is like one drop of paint and three drops of thinner.

I think I still have decent amount of paints in my basic set, but I feel like I was using far too many. :p

Thank you for the info on the ratio!
