Personally, after reviewing it up close during AFA13 in Singapore and CF13 in Kuala Lumpur, I am not very impressed. Let me list out a few of my opinions below. The beta version which I saw during CF13 and AFA13 had an internal skeleton which resembles a gorillapod from the neck down to the hips. I believe that it is structurally weaker than the DD2 frame due to how it is build. That also means that it cannot tolerate as much stress from external factors (such as pushing, pulling, forcing things, and posing) as a DD. The arm and knee joints also look surprisingly thin. If this is changed, I might seriously consider on getting a Smart Doll body as a spare body. (As of now Danny has not stated if DD heads are interchangeable with the Smart Doll body) The doll stand which was posted by Danny seems to be attached to a hole in either her back or her crotch area. This also means more post-processing if you were to eliminate the stand from outdoor/indoor shoots. The face from the outside looks decent, similar to a DDH-06 with a sharper jawline and a wider forehead. Her faceup is done by RONRONSHUKA, a very well known faceup artist who sells custom heads during DP events and on YJA. However, when you look at her face from the side, it resembles an almond, and is not as aesthetically pleasing as a DD head mold. Frankly speaking, she only looks decent when viewed from the front. Following image was taken by a friend of mine during AFA13. IMHO, Smart Doll seems to be designed to cater to non-doll owners (either DD or BJD), or more specifically, targeted at Danny's fans. The way that it is built and marketed makes it feel like it is more for collectors, whom rather put his/her doll on a bedroom shelf or in the box rather than bring out for shoots, similar to quite a large number of figurine collectors. From what I observe in my country, all DDs and BJDs regardless of manufacturer are Smart Doll/Mirai to them. Price wise, I believe she will be a little more expensive than a standard Volks DD model (Aoi/Yukino) Sorry to bring you down to Earth, but I am not really excited nor impressed about Smart Doll at the moment.
