Hm, it’s too bad that new DDs are softer but without more posing benefits. I had some hope that there could be a slight improvement in neck/torso flexibility along with that softer vinyl. I only got my first DD that came with a body(also a Miku, on her original body—until now I’ve only had DD+Obitsu hybrids) really recently, and I was honestly surprised at how soft she was, and she’s been released for several years now. When I first got into this hobby it seemed like everyone agreed that DD vinyl was super hard in comparison, but it looks like that’s increasingly not the case. It would be good if stains are at least easier to remove on this newer, softer vinyl compared to the older ones if it stains just as easily. I actually prefer softer vinyl—much nicer for cuddles imo and stains seemed to come off easy enough if I caught it quickly—so if this is a design choice from Volks and the staining issue isn’t much worse then I’m for it.

 

Something else I noticed about her that I forgot to report. I dont know if this is just my Luka or not, but she's noticeably softer/squishier than other DDs. I squeezed her boobs by accident while getting her clothes on and was surprised how much they squished compared to Bri's despite being the same size. Its not just her boobs though, her arms and legs too. When other people get their Luka's I'd be curious to know if they are all like this. I went around squeezing everyone else and she is definitely the softest. I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but I mostly plan to have her in lighter colours anyway whether theres an increase in stain risk or not.

 

Not sure if you have an Obi 50 to compare, but is it soft like the torso on those? I never liked that about Obi50s, it just feels cheap and flimsy.

After hearing Luka is surprisingly soft, I gave Ruri a squeeze. And then Saber a squeeze. Ruri is quite soft in comparison and I did not expect that. O_O Some how never managed to notice even when I change their outfit consecutively. I won an auction on YJA for a discounted Obitsu 50 and I guess I'll give that a squeeze too. Man, that sounds weird.

I think there are similarities to Towa as well. In some of the 3/4 view pictures it looks to me like she has the same kind of chubby cheeks as Towa. This aspect of Luka's sculpt is really interesting I think; in head-on views she has a really sharp chin and jawline while from lower angles and 3/4 views she looks sort of square-jawed.

Looking at Torino's two pics on the previous page and comparing those to Volks' original pictures, it seems like the teeth are recessed in such a way that you only really see them from lower angles. From those pictures someone had of a wiped head it is clear they're very distinctly molded in so they're not just part of the painting.

Yeah she's a custom Miku made from DDH-07. I've wanted to post pictures and will finally do that once I'm done with treating stains and recover from eye surgery where I can actually see well enough to operate the camera.

No, not that soft. I do not have an obi50 but I have been to the Azone store and the Geestore here where they have the parts for sale and have squeezed them out of curiosity (they are in plastic bags as opposed to plastic boxes like volks parts).

I actually haven’t given Luka’s posing capability compared to Bri a whirl yet though. Although speaking of Bri, she is also pretty recent (given that she’s tan skin and I got her on March last year she kinda has to be) but is the same as Rin/Len/Miku.

 

I do notice the similarity to Towa, in my opinion she is like a more refined version of someone’s idea for that sculpt (although her eye shape is very different imo). I don’t have Towa but I have seen her IRL numerous times and I do think she looks awkward from some angles whereas Luka doesn’t.

Oh~ After going back a bit to see Torino's pics, Luka's teeth are definitely visible...when I have my glasses on or zoom in like crazy. ^_^" That's a pretty nice touch and shows the detail Volks put into her.

 

Luka's eyes are definitely sharper and Towa's have a bit of a droop. I think that would still be the case even with their heads wiped blank. Although faceups can be really deceiving at times. Towa's most distinctive feature is probably her chubby cheeks and that draws me away from the fact that her chin is actually still an anime-style 'V,' and not square jawed. In some pictures that don't highlight her cheeks, where her chin is sharper, I definitely see a bigger similarity to Luka.

 

Towa does look awkward in some angles because of her cheeks but I actually kind of like that. Luka is really beautiful in all angles and congrats to everyone that got her.

uh she already got confirmed as lottery as well as a US-only clickwar a few pages back(has any Dolpa doll/any doll not revealed in September not been a lottery on the international site though..?) but like I said, I really dont see how that matters considering she'll probably end up as easy to get as Rin/Len were - especially because there is a limited preorder for VS/VIP members only which means there will be a whole lot of her produced- potentially even more than Rin/Len since their limited preorder was only for people who could get to Nagoya Dolpa, whereas with this one the VS/VIPs can do it online. That will probably reduce her scarcity/aftermarket price, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. There has yet to be a vocaloid that is expensive/scarce on the aftermarket so I doubt they'd start now (especially given how much they like rereleasing them for Magical Mirai/VolksUSA holiday events)

 

It was for that reason that I was originally just going to wait and buy her second-hand (and that was -before- they announced the limited preorder), but I wanted the experience of getting a doll at Dolpa at least once, so gave it a shot because I am too sentimental for my own good.

Sheryl and Ranka's rerelease appear to be clickwar, but that whole rerelease isn't like anything Volks usually does so in general I think your statement is accurate.

VolksUSA sent me an email earlier today. Apparently Luka will be $690 and her Senbonzakura outfit will be $128.

. . . . . I can't tell if it'd be cheaper for me to attempt to purchase her through Volks International or VolksUSA?

With the 8% consumption tax the price for Luka is ~74,520 yen or currently approximately $675 on Volks International, assuming you use a credit card that does actual exchange rate without additional fees.

 

I don't know how shipping compares on the two stores.

DD Luka has a similar box dimension to Freyja so I'm ~assuming~ shipping will be 4,500円 which would bring the total to around 79,020円.

 

With today's exchange rate, it should set you back at around $716.37 (unless you have to pay for foreign transaction fees by your cc issuer.)

When I buy through Volks International, I usually use paypal and request that the foreign transaction fee rate be charged according my card issuer's rates so I still pay a fee. Hmmmm. . . . I guess I can pick either one . . . I'll probably go through Volks international since it's a lottery. I know VolkUSA's first come, first serve method seems more fair, but I just see myself messing that up somehow.

Totally a clickwar. If it was preorder they always very clearly state it and give a very broad ordering window, up to 1.5-2 months for the yearly preorder girls.
