Dyeing With Pastels

Recommended Posts

I felt like the process of dyeing a doll with actual dye was too risky and expensive of a project to take on, so I had the idea of dyeing my doll with pastels instead. That way I could control the color much better than I would with a dye.

The way that I did this was that I covered each piece with pastel, then washed off the pastel with a brush and water mixed with a little bit of acetone free nail polish remover. The color came out pretty even.

(Next to it is a normal skin DD S-bust that I modded to fit a DDdy torso.)

I continued this method with the rest of the body.

(Comparison of her head with the rest of her body I had finished up to that point.)

This is how she turned out once finished. There's little imperfections here and there on her body, but all of it is easily fixable. Her elf ears as well haven't been finished yet because I don't have the paint I need to make them match her skin tone. Once I do that I'll post another picture here to show her fully complete.

Overall I'm extremely happy with how she turned out. I may do this again for my other girls.

Thanks for reading .

That looks like it turned out well! I'm assuming you used chalk pastels?

Yes, I used Faber-Castell chalk pastels.

So cute! Does it get out easily? Or is it it permanent-ish?

It's easily removable. You can remove it the same way you would remove a faceup.
