I always try to make it out to a few live shows each year, and it's no different this time around, and so I wanted to do something a little music based while also paying tribute to one of my favorite artists, Daft Punk! So lets fire up those stage lights and get to doing it right! Nina is at the turntable spinning up the jams! Flipping the faders and putting the right plates down to keep the vibe right. In modern practices, it's referred to as Litha on the wheel of the year, but in ancient times, it wasn't as big of a deal in the celtic mythology. Sure, there's midsummer in other pagan traditions, but the rites around those are usually just their version of Beltane or May Day. Regardless, it's the longest day of the year, so what better way to celebrate than by having a feast, a bonfire, making some flower crowns or just enjoying the summer season! So here's Merida out enjoying herself! Summer is officially here! I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I'll be back in a few weeks with July's pics! DesertPhantom51 Posted July 11 July has arrived, it's hot and sunny, so what better time for sundresses! No theme, just pretty sundresses. Yeah, I just got three new pretty dresses I wanted to show off, what are you gonna do. Next month is Hot Girl Summer, which is slightly better than my original plan at the beginning of the year of 'Potpourri'. Anyway, pretty girls in sundresses! Emma coming to start things off in a lovely white blue print dress. She's such a serious girl. Next is Rapunzel very much enjoying the sunny weather and season. and finally Lydia in a twin to Rapunzel's dress but blue, and serving up some 'this is how you're supposed to wear that' energy. That's all for July, I'll be back around the first of the month for another Wheel of the Year entry, then again further into August with my normal post. DesertPhantom51 Posted August 2 The Wheel of the Year keeps turning! Today is Lughasadh, or Lammas depending on your traditions. It is the festival of first harvest or first fruits and marks the beginning of the second half of the year. So I set up Merida as our harvest maiden, and resisted the urge to make a matching corn doll of her lol. I couldn't help myself from including references to The Wicker Man again though. Oh well, pop culture is gonna pop culture. Regular August photos are coming mid month this time, as I'm still waiting for a piece or two to arrive. Until then, thanks for stopping by again! DesertPhantom51 Posted August 17 Well, we're half way through the month, and I can't wait anymore, Hot Girl Summer is almost over! We'll work the outfit into next month somehow... Anyway, it's hot, it's summer, and near the shore things are heating up as people try to cool down. So here's two of my girls showing off that summer style! First up is Samus at a beach overlook! railings are for more than safety! and Nina is down at the shore herself in a swimsuit with a punky coverup. New wolf cut too! (I decided I have a lot of wigs, and she seems like the girl who would change her hair style/color a lot. So look forward to that!) Time to hit the water! DesertPhantom51 Posted August 25 I know the ship sailed already, and I'm glad I didn't wait, my last piece arrived today so I threw it on Lydia really quick just to show what the night time Hot Girl Summer look was going to be. Quick and dirty, just for funzies. Also, quick review for the smooth leg tights from Volks. They're pretty nice, but ultimately have some of the same problems that the full body suits have, baggy around the knee, and a smidge too long for DDS girls. They're nice to have if you're just going to be using something to protect the legs and hips from pants or suspect dresses though. DesertPhantom51 Posted September 11 September is here, and this year I'm making the girls do their own Halloween crafting! Halloween is going to be themed around homespun arts and crafts this year, so I thought it would be fun to have the girls all making the crafts to go along with their costumes. Some are more obvious than others, but see if you can figure out who's what this year! First up are our LED girls, Emma and Nina, busy putting together the items for their scenes! Nina is ready to beam down! Emma is using science in a daring way... Carving and sculpting up next with Samus and Lydia! Samus is making jack-o-lanterns, a trick or treating must, out of dehydrated oranges! Lydia has made a clay kitty cat, I wonder what color she'll paint it when it's done. Paint and glue round out the craft types, with Rapunzel and Katie hard at work! Rapunzel is going for the viral cheese cloth ghosts that are going around on social media. Spooky haunts! Katie is making tombstones out of cut Styrofoam... and being dramatic about it... That's all for now, I'll be back in a bit with Merida for the Autumnal Equinox later in the month. The Autumnal Equinox, or Mabon as it is called now, represents the transition from the light half of the year, to the dark half of the year. Traditionally celebrated with a feast and festivals, in modern times it's sometimes referred to as Wiccan Thanksgiving. That said, I thought I would lean into the transitionary theme of the date with a balance of light and dark photo of Merida with the trappings of the season. DesertPhantom51 Posted October 17 Hello October, and hello Halloween! October is always one of my favorite months to take photos of my girls. It's a chance to try new things with them and this year was no exception. The overall theme this year is 'Home Spun Halloween' with scaled down crafts and activities to create each scene and compliment their costumes! It was a lot of fun making all of these little things, and just as fun to take the photos! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! Well here's a story that must be told It's kind of new, not very old About a female martian with a wild grin (...) Blue was her hair She came from way up there She wore silver underwear Almost naked but she didn't care Why oh, why did she come from Planet V? Well I don't know whoa whoa whoa Nina is going as our Martian Girl from Planet V this year! Complete with pie pan flying saucers! I think this is the first time I've had photos of her with both eyes visible... and it's as she's dressed as an alien... huh. To keep the sci-fi going, here's Nina as our good Dr. Jekyll! I mean, what harm could one little drink do? "I'm suddenly not quite feeling myself..." Well, I guess it's more Nutty Professor than Ms. Hyde. Speaking of old movies... They're coming to get you Barbara... Katie takes on the role of our black and white classic scream queen with a graveyard scene out of The Living Dead Who is this girl with an insatiable love of the dead?! Living Dead Girl!! Silly. Speaking of Graveyards, here comes a happy little haunt with Rapunzel running around with her new ghost friends she made! She really should be careful running around with sharp blades, it's how you end up getting cut.... Too late... Oh well, her ghost friends will comfort her about it. And don't you worry either! Still pretty cute either way... I guess it's time to trot out a Halloween staple of late, sexy cat, I'm surprised it's taken this long for one of my girls to do this. Of course Lydia jumped at the chance. Her original clay cat statue crumbles, so she resorted to some simple cat paper crafts to decorate her alley! Everybody wants to be a cat! and of course, what Halloween would be complete without a visit to the Pumpkin patch! Samus is our Pumpkin Princess this year, showing off all the pumpkin decor and streamers she's been hard at work on! It's never too late to carve a pumpkin for Halloween, even on the night itself! Samus is happy to demonstrate! I should've known... it's always Metroids!!! That's all for this year's Halloween pictures! But I can't take credit for that part, they're lyrics from a song by The Aquabats, the part I used the elipses for described her with orange eyes and green skin... One of the festivals on the wheel of the year that was also incorporated into other beliefs as all-saints day, and eventually turned into Halloween. Sometimes referred to as the pagan New Year, it was considered the start of Winter. Many celebrations were woven into it over the years, bonfires, guising, feasts but it was considered a time when the veil between worlds was thin, so a spirit, fae or ghost may easily slip into the celebration unknown. Lots of early fiction and mythology was centered around the holiday with stories of intrepid adventurers crossing over into the Otherworld. Considering it's connotations, modern practices have taken it as a time to reflect on the past, the future, and those that have passed. So I'm doing a bit of old and new here, keeping the dark imagery, and going for a memento mori kind of macabre thing. Keep your hearth and candles lit, and welcome your lost family home again. Cheers There are a lot of similarities (and differences!) between Samhain, Halloween, and Día De Los Muertos (which I was raised with). I think it's telling about us that so many cultures have similar things around the same time of year.
